Scenario Library is Up!
As promised a while back, in the Legio Downloads section you can now see/print/download the three custom scenarios that were used in "The Inquisition Wars" recently. As time goes on, we'll continue to add more scenarios for all of the games we play here.
In fact, if YOU would like to submit a scenario you've devised, please email it to us! The scenario should be well thought out and/or thoroughly playtested. If we select your scenario for inclusion in the hallowed vaults of Legio Malaysia, we'll be sure to extend you full credit! :) Currently, we're accepting missions for Warhammer 40,000, Warhammer, and Flames of War.
Hobby Night is only eight days away. Until then, take it easy...

Season 3 40K League a Wrap!
Well, this past Saturday we wrapped it all up with a hard fought Championship round. Howls of pain and bloodlust echoed through the halls, and a winner emerged from the darkness. Please extend your congratulations to Iskazri I. for becoming the first two-time 40K League Champion! Huzzah! He defeated Faizal's nasty Imperial Guard force in truly Orky fashion. Well done.
In addition, here are the other Season 3 winners:
Marksman's Honor: Khairul E.
Khairul won the Wild Card Tournament, securing the 4th and final seed in last Saturday's Championship with 3 convincing wins. Despite losing to Iskazri in the first round of the Championships, Khairul played his Saim-Hann Eldar well!
Best Sportsman: Azlan R.
Whether he was winning or losing, Azlan was a cheerful opponent with a fantastic themed Ravenwing army. I fought him to a draw in the league with my Unclean host, and it was the most fun I had in the league. Kudos!
Best Appearance: Khairul E.
I think it was pretty obvious to all that he deserved this award. His Saim-Hann Eldar look fantastic, and he got it done in a short time to boot. Huzzah!
League Fanatic: Alvin K.
Alvin played 11 games in his first league, getting in as many as could at each opportunity. He played a tough, nice looking Alpha Legion army that also scored high in the appearance category. Nicely done!
We'll be handing out all the trophies for these mighty champions, including the Purity Seal, on the first day of the next 40K league. Have a look at the polls below and click on your vote for the points total and dates for the next league. While these results are non-binding, we will definitely take them into strong consideration when we announce the next league.
Congrats to all who participated. Until next time...

What an Awesome Last Hobby Nite of the Year!
A whole bunch of people were at the gaming tables - Salleh, Din, Subhan, Kong, Lexxis, Nahri, to name a few. Soo Jin's impressive IG tanks were ... impressive! I've seen them before, and I don't get tired of looking at them. Khairul and Arzmi turned up with brand-new ultra-limited edition Kindred promo t-shirts, much to my envy. Rizal unveiled his new IG army - complete with 5 Leman Russ and 2 Valkyrie - looks scary enough. Dann, Khairul, Arzmi and I tried out a doubles game - the dynamics are totally different from the usual solo game - you guys should try it out!
We also had a member's meeting to wrap up Legio matters for 2009 and set the stage for 2010. I won't get into details, suffice to say that I am totally looking forward to what's coming up in the Year of the Tiger.
Of course, last nite was not exactly the last time in 2009 the Legio was filled with the sounds of dice rolling, cries of anguish and victory, drills and cutters and heavy metal. We also had the league play-offs today, which doubled as a members'-only hobby time as well. But more details on that later.
Anyways, I think you know that I lurv Hobby Nite! Here's to 2010. See you guys at the next Hobby Nite!

Local Games Shops supports Kindred
Guys, one word best describes all 3 managers/owners to me : AWESOME!!!
These guys are great. I didn't have to pitch hard. Not true. What i did doesn't even constitute as pitching. I described the basic details of Kindred, showed them the poster and rulespack and that was it! They said they would be happy to support the event. And immediately went to put up the poster! Just how awesome are they?? They even asked me where would be the best place to put up the posters!!!
So to you kind Sirs, from me personally and on behalf of Legio Malaysia, Thank You so very much for your kindness and support. You guys are great!!
Roll call of these great guys.
Mr. William Phang of Comics Mart in Midvalley. Check out those biceps...he would be initiated into any space marine chapter for sure.
Mr. Francis Wolf of Wolf Game Shop in SS14 Petaling Jaya. Multi talented shop owner. Mention my name to get extra special discount.
Mr. Richie Nga...errr...I mean Lord Vader of Games Circle in SS22 Damansara Jaya. Just don't mention the Alliance if you meet him. If your name happens to be Luke...then you definately need to see him.
All three fine establishments are currently stocked with some great GW products that you can get in preparation for Kindred. Some are even having a fantastic sale for Christmas. So let's support our local games shops by visiting their place to get some nice gifts for friends, family and most importantly...ourselves!! Bring lots of cash.
And while you're there do please check out our nice Kindred poster and Rulespack.
Fine gentlemen, our most sincere appreciation again. Happy holidays.

Kindred Team Hobby Champion
I've been pleasantly surprised to find out that most of you will be going for the Team Hobby Champion for Kindred which brings along with it the ultimate prize for this tournament, the coveted Legio Purity Seal.
I was under the impression that most would be gunning for the Best General award. Why? Well, mainly because discussions regarding Kindred centred around all the possible nasty(cheesy heheh) combos that can be made from two different armies working together. I know for a fact that everyone had fun and are continuing to have fun thinking of such combos and how to use them during Kindred.
This is just great for the event. For some this could be your introduction to a 40k tournament environment, some will be gunning for the Best General, to those who want to prove you're a nice guy at the table...hey there's the Sportsmanship award. There's also the People's Choice award. And for the hobbyist, the Team Hobby Champion. Something for everyone. How cool is that?
So to assist you and your kindred in your quest for your holy grail aka Legio Purity Seal, here are some details Arzmi and me will be looking out for when judging your armies at Kindred. Since Jeff has given us free rein as to how we want to run this tournament, and this being the first LHT, we want to set a high standard. This is a hobby tournament after all!
The following will be a guideline only to help you prepare for Kindred. You do need to do it but it will help come tournament day. Again this is a hobby tournament so all those extra effort helps.
1. Written background on your army. Not more than 100 word on the fluff of your army. Why
they are working together, what's special behind their collaboration, special history together
etc. You do not need to prepare this but it would help. Extra effort remember.
2. Is there a theme to your armies?
3.Is the chosen army fluff with the 40k universe? For example, you are free to select
Ultramarines and Tryanids but you had better come up with a good story as to why they have
decided to fight together. Think carefully about this when making your army selection.
4. Painting for every miniatures and models must be to the highest standard.
5. Are both of your army's bases similarly themed? It doesn't necessarily have to be exactly the
same but should share common features.
6. Conversions to make units unique are good.
7. Extra attention to special characters is also good. They are the heroes after all.
8. Is unit selection in line with the background/storyline provided?
9. Can the theme chosen be visually seen in both armies?
10. Have both partners gone the extra mile to complete their army in the spirit of LHT?
Basically that's it folks. We are looking for the best painted, best themed, best hobby modeling, best everything combined in that one army(meaning you and your partner's). We will be looking at the extra mile you have taken to make your army worthy to be crowned Kindred Team Hobby Champion. Make sure that come Kindred there will be no denying that you and your partner are the only deserving owners of that Legio Purity Seal.
Please also use this if you have any questions in regards to Kindred.
FAQ
Can my Farseer cast fortune on my partner's Berzerkers?
Previously we said yes but upon checking with the Eldar codex, Fortune only works on Eldar units. Our apologies for this misinformation.
So go back to your drawing boards and make it work.
Amaze us all at Kindred. God bless and good luck.

RSVP Thread, and FAQ as promised
As is our weekly ritual here at Legio Malaysia, here's the thread to post your attendance RSVP. Post away, and be sure to tell us all what you've got planned for your hobby time? Playtesting a Kindred list, perhaps? A couple of pick up games? Maybe some painting? We'd all love to hear about it. Personally, I'll be either painting Flesh Tearers stuff, or Sisters of Battle. Depends on whether the new models show up or not! :)
In addition, we've finally posted the Legio Malaysia FAQ. You can view it on the right in the Legio Downloads section. Hopefully, it will clear up some misconceptions and answer your basic questions as to what we're all about here.
Please note that this is a living document, and that we'll constantly update it with additional information, or make changes based on the desires of the club membership. I've heard through the grapevine some pretty wacky stories about what some people think our club does or does not do. I hope this FAQ helps clear that stuff up.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing as many folks as possible tomorrow. If you live in Selangor tomorrow's a holiday- weee! We'll open Legio at the standard time of 5:30 PM tomorrow, so please don't show up TOO early... :)
Cheers!

Congrats to Khairul for winning the Marksman's Honor!
After a closely fought tournament, Khairul and his Saim Hann Eldar managed to go undefeated on Saturday. He and his Wild Host will be the 4th seed in the Season 3 40K League Championships being held at 10 AM on Saturday, December 19th. Good luck to all the competitors!
Below are the final results for all 7 competitors in the Wild Card Tournament. Note that Appearance and Sportsmanship scores are the final averages from the regular season. No appearance or sportsmanship scores were taken during the tournament.

RSVP Thread, plus more news
I also want to take a moment to let you all know we will be publishing a new resource very soon. It's called the "Legio Malaysia FAQ", and we hope it will be a useful tool to members and other hobbyists alike. We thought it was about time we kept a living document on the site, available for download, that conveys as much information as possible about who we are and what expectations are for those who come here.
I've heard through the grapevine that there are those who have not come because they think they can't play with unpainted models (untrue), have to pay money to attend (also untrue), or because they don't know HOW to RSVP. One of the things this document will strive to do is to debunk these things and clarify policies like the RSVP/attendance policy.
We also thought it might not be a bad idea to keep all of our rules clarifications for tournament and league play in one place. Do I have to rep extra armor on my Rhino? Can I put my standard bearer on a 40mm base? Do I have to tell my opponent which squad is in which transport during the game? What does "fully painted" and "based" mean when it comes to tournament hobby standards? This document will try to answer these questions as well.
Expect to see this document go live within the week. As we make more clarifications, we'll continue to add to and update this document. Once we get it going, be sure to check back often. We'll try to make this document a hobby resource as well as a reference for what's "right" at Legio activities and events. Hopefully this will help dispel any misconceptions people might have, and pave the way for more people to attend Hobby Night.
That's it for today. Please post up your intention to come right here in this thread- we're looking forward to seeing you!
Legio Hobby Doubles Tournament- March 6th, 2010
Greetings!
I am very pleased to announce that a new team of Legionnaires, consisting of Khairul and Arzmi, is running their very first tournament, "Kindred", on Saturday, March 6th 2010. As I mentioned in the previous post, this is a tournament that will feature hobby as the main event, yet will still offer something for everyone.
Players in the tournament team up with one other player and form a combined 1000 point joint army with their individual 500 point forces. The two Troops choices requirement is waived for your 500 points- all you need at a minimum is one HQ choice and only one Troops. The rest is simply by the standard rules of your codex.
You're allowed to team up with ANYONE! Eldar and Dark Eldar, Orks and Tyranids, or whatever your deranged minds might come up with. However, if you're interested in the Purity Seal your team should represent a plausible combined force. Paint your models in a similar theme. Write up a great back story. Base them all the same. These are just some of the ideas that you can try to make your joint army a contender for Team Hobby Champion!
All models in your joint force are considered close allies, and therefore may benefit from almost all of each other's special abilities. Imagine an Eldar player teamed up with Dark Eldar. He casts Fortune on the Dark Eldar Archon, who happens to be equipped with a Shadow Field granting him a 2+ Invulnerable save. YES, he gets to re-roll it now! Weeee!!! For those of you who enjoy plumbing the deepest mines of cheese for the ultimate power combo, this is your tournament.
This is also a great tournament for new players. You only need a 500 point force, painted to minimum standard Legio requirements. Find a partner and you're all set! Don't worry about the results at the end of the day- just look at this as a great chance to try out tournament style of play. You might love it!
Finally, this is a great tournament for the hobby guys out there. With only 500 points to do, you can build the army you've been curious about but never did. Better yet, you can find a partner and coordinate your armies from scratch- design, building, painting, and background from the get go! That sounds AWESOME to me.
For the complete tournament pack that should answer all your questions, click on the "Kindred" banner at the top of this page.
So, there you have it. We've already been asked some questions, so let me address a few here. However, from here on out please direct your questions/comments to Arzmi and Khairul. This is their baby, and they are in control of every facet of this tournament. For once, I'm just a participant! :D
FAQ
Can my Farseer cast Fortune on my partner's Berzerkers?
Absolutely! No problem at all. Beneficial psychic powers may be cast on your partner's models, as they are considered friendly.
Can my Howling Banshee squad be transported inside his Chaos Land Raider?
Yes, as long as the transport is not a dedicated transport for one particular squad. Also, if the vehicle description states that only a certain type of model may be transported inside (like a Grey Knights Land Raider), then those rules must be followed.
Will my Orks benefit from my partner's Commander Dante "Inspiring" rule?
No, since the rule states that Blood Angels specifically are the only ones affected. Only benefits that are given to "friendly" models may be used by your partner.
For all other inquiries please ask Khairul and Arzmi! Post and Discuss!!!

Something New on the Horizon...
Howdy, folks!
I've just gotten done having another lunch meeting with two respected members of Legio Malaysia, Arzmi and Khairul. As some of you may already know, they are planning to run a 40K Doubles Tournament. This tournament is taking place on March 5th, and very soon we'll be posting more details on this event. However, before we do, there's another part of this tournament that represents a brand-new concept to Legio tournament play. This will be the first "Legio Hobby Tournament" we've ever run, as opposed to the "Legio Tournament" events we've run up to this point. "What's a Legio Hobby Tournament?" you might ask...
Legio Hobby Tournaments (LHTs) are events that will feature the "hobby side" of things as the primary award emphasis. Best Army is the highest award that will be given out at an LHT, and the winner of this category also gets the Purity Seal. Unless there's some kind of odd format to the event (who knows what other LHTs we'll do in the future?), there will also be the normal Best Sportsman Award, as well as a Best General award given out to the player that has the highest overall victory points. However, Best General and Best Sportsman do NOT get the Purity Seal in LHTs. That singular award is reserved for the Best Army award, which will typically include painting, modeling, and background detail in the judging.
Don't get me wrong- these tournaments will be just as competitive and fair as any of the others we've run. Swiss system still applies, scenarios are fun and challenging, and players who live for the thrill of designing unbeatable lists can still have a ball crushing everyone underneath their mighty tread. Should this person have the highest battle point total, they will be known as the tournament's Best General and receive a trophy for their accomplishment. The challenge and thrill are still there. If you're not a strong painter, or you dislike painting and just get the minimum standard done, that's completely cool. You'll still get three games and a crack at some trophies.
Hopefully this makes sense to everyone. Personally, I think it's a great idea that came up during our brainstorming for the Doubles Tournament. I know there are more than a few folks out there who get their primary thrills from building and painting armies that tell a story and reflect a particular theme. This type of event is just for you.
For those who do not find much joy in these things, have no fear. The "Legio Tournament" format we've been doing is not going anywhere. We'll definitely run at least one big Legio Tournament next year, and you can expect the same tough games, great armies, and cool opponents as you've experienced in the past. The Legio Hobby Tournament format just offers tournament organizers a chance to create an event that puts the spotlight squarely on the hobby side of things. The 40K Doubles Tournament will be the first one using this format, and we sincerely hope that everyone has a great time.
In the meantime, what do you guys think about this? Post and discuss!

Chicken, Anyone?
Wild Card Tournament December 5th
All right, after a bit of discussion we've decided to go with Saturday, December 5th for the Wild Card Tournament. Unfortunately, Peter C. had to drop out of the League Championships due to work obligations, so here's where we stand now:
Iskazri, Faizal, and Joe are automatically in the finals, which will be held Saturday, December 12th at Battlefront. More details on that one coming soon.
In the meantime, a conditional invitation is extended to the following players, all of whom played at least the league minimum of six games:
Tay J.
Khairul E.
Azlan R.
Iqbal R.
Selvam S.
Arzmi D.
Alvin K.
Rizal
Shazli M.
Ahmad Z.
I say "conditional", because to be eligible to compete in the Wild Card Tournament for the Marksman's Honour and a spot in the League Championships, your army MUST be fully painted AND based. Based means the bases must be painted and flocked at a minimum. Painting the bases green does not qualify for this, unless you glue flock on top (for instance). painted means all of the models show "painting effort" and have at least three colors. If you have any doubts whatsoever as to what "fully painted" or "based" mean, I strongly urge you to email me for clarification or post your question in this thread. If you show up with an army that does not meet these requirements, you will not be permitted to play in the tournament.
Scoring in the Wild Card Tournament is simple. You all will play in three rounds, using the standard Legio Swiss format. If we have an odd number of players, one randomly determined player in Round 1 will get a bye (worth 15 points). The bye for rounds 2 and 3 will be given to the player with the lowest overall score at that point in the tournament.
No appearance or sportsmanship scores will be taken for these matches. Once the tournament is over, you'll have scores for three games. These scores will be added together, and then we'll add your final regular season league average in Sportsmanship and Appearance to that for your total score. Highest score wins the tournament!
So, that's it folks. Please RSVP your attendance, or lack thereof. If you have any questions, post them up here or drop me an email.
Until then, good luck!

Iron Painter...Who's Coming?
When I was still working for GW in the US, Iron Painter was the biggest event on my shop's calendar. It's a cool event, and we're doing it! Here's how it works:
Basically, it's an endurance painting event. In it's original concept, it's a 24 hour painting event, but for Legio we're keeping it instead to a managable 12 hours. You turn up to the event with at least 500 points of Warhammer, Warhammer 40,000, Lord of the Rings, or Flames of War miniatures. These models are assembled, based, and may be primed in one color. This force must consist of at least 20 models, and it must be a legal force. So, for instance, a 40K entry must consist of at least a HQ and 2 Troops selections from the codex of your choice.
You may not think it's possible, but in the "original" version it's 1000 points of models over 24 hours. Believe me, with a careful plan, a reasonable pallette, and dedication/focus, you CAN do it (and it not look like ass!) :)
So, join us on Saturday, February 20th for some painting madness. Clock starts at 10 AM sharp, and ends at 10 PM on the nose. Those who finish will be forever known as a Legio Iron Painter, and the winner (determined by popular vote) will get a Purity Seal for their well deserved victory.
Who's interested? Post and discuss!
EDIT: Assuming we get enough basic attendance, there will be three other "sub awards" available should you choose to be crazy enough to try them:
"Iron Skull"- Paint a 1000 point army of at least 30 models in the alloted time.
"Iron Halo"- Start the competition with all of your models sealed inside blisters and boxes- loose sprues and metal may not be used for this (as you could have prepped/cleaned them beforehand).
"Adamantium Mantle"- Complete requirements for both Iron Halo AND Iron Skull.

Wow! A Regular Hobby Nite!
Jeff and I went off for a couple of rounds of Paulaner before arriving at the Legio to kick things off. Jeff has a highly-detailed chaplain to paint, and I have some dice to roll. Subhan came first, and his Daemons and my Brandenburgers fought a Firesweep mission off Cities of Death. It's been years since I played that, and guys, CoD is just amazing! I know a lot of you guys have never tried CoD before - and you're missing out. Catch me next Hobby Nite for some urban fun (or anybody else with the CoD book).
Tourney champ Soo Jin and Kong arrived to do battle, and I know they also talked hobby stuff with Jeff afterwards. Redeye was there too - did you play any games? Anyways, when Iz, Khairul, Arzmi, Faizal, Iqbal, Ivan, Shazli and Dann (yes, he found his way out of the Warp) arrived, we went into a long-delayed much-needed members meeting. And I must say it's probably the best most productive members meeting we've had ever since Legio was founded. Amen!
After that, it was back to dice-rolling for me! Nahri was around with his Liebstandarte, and seeing another German Grey IG army, the Brandenburgers just had to get into action. We originally wanted to play a scenario off CoD, but since Nahri has never played CoD before, and we were running low on time, we decided to just play a standard 40k game on the city table. And I must say it's one of the most fun 40k games I've played in a long time. IG on IG is just excellent. Lots of close quarters firefights (urban terrain), lots big explosions and only 2 assaults in the entire battle. It was also a great contrast in terms of army themes and play-style.
We wrapped much later than we intended, we were tired (exhausted) but really really happy. I lurv Hobby Nite! Really looking forward to the next one!

RSVP here, yo...
How about you guys? Khairul has threatened to join me for painting, but between me and you guys I don't think he can resist the "call of the dice". He'll be playing a game inside 30 minutes of showing up he he he...
Also, MEMBERS! Don't forget we're going to have a honest to goodness meeting tomorrow evening at around 8:00 PM or so. You have some cool ideas? Be sure to bring them up at the meeting. We all have a voice- let's use them constructively!

40K Season 3 Regular Season a Wrap!
Peter, Iskazri, and Faizal are going to the League Championships currently scheduled for Saturday, December 4th. Congratulations guys!
There are eleven other players, highlighted in yellow, who are invited to compete in the Wild Card Tournament being held on Saturday, November 28th. You have until then to make sure your army is fully painted AND based. The winner of this tournament will earn the Markman's Honour and the final spot in the League Championships.
The five players in red (including myself, unfortunately) have not completed the league minimum games, and therefore are not ranked, not invited to the finals, and are not eligible for any awards. :(
Please let me know if any results are missing and we'll see about getting it sorted. Otherwise, get ready for the Wild Card!

The Inquisition Wars have been fought...
What a tourney!
We had everything you'd want in a tournament- nice looking armies, some good table/terrain variety, and hair raising scenarios that had everyone running for cover and killing each other in equal measure.
There was also a "team" aspect to this tournament, the "Red Team" and the "Black Team" representing armies that were manipulated into fighting for two rival Inquisitors. Black players were only seeded against Red players, and vice versa. It made for some fun/different matchups, and "Red Team" gets bragging rights as the highest overall score holders. In the results below, the color of the player represents which team they were on.
It was also great to see a good sized contingent from Singapore turn out for the fun, and they ended up running off with two of the three trophies of the day. Here's the winners:
Tournament Champion: Lim Soo Jin
Best Sportsman: Ang Hongxi
Best Appearance: Quek Tsui Chiang
Congratulations to all the participants, particularly the guys that were in their first tournament! Also, a very special thanks to the guys that helped make this tournament possible with their assistance:
Saleh, the best Tourney Grot I've had yet!
Ivan and Iqbal- budding Tech Priests that helped with the creation of the cityfight table and the cool purple "Mars" table and assisted with the scatter terrain
Azlan, Alvin, Khairul, and Faizal for helping assemble and paint scatter terrain
Seriously guys, MANY thanks for your volunteerism. This tournament would not have been as cool as it was without your help.
Complete results below, and pics pending...
Edit: Azlan has posted a ton of pics on his blog- check them all out HERE
Wong40K has also posted some nice pics. Check them out here.

BIG Hobby Night tomorrow- RSVP here!
We'll have two new tables done tomorrow night as well- a dedicated Cities of Death concrete sprawl, and the strange adamantium oxide wastes of a forgotten world in the Halo Stars. Doc, you'll love this table! ;) Those two, along with a table sent to us from Battlefront HQ in NZ, adds up to 13 complete gaming tables. That's pretty freakin' cool if you ask me! So, saddle up and grab yer figs. It's gaming time, and the action's going to be hot tomorrow night at Hobby Night...
Who's coming?

Are You Ready for the Carnage?
I have not seen any of the army lists (because my mech infantry will be in the fray for the glory of Brandenburg and the Imperium!), but I do know that a myriad of armies will be taking part, including a healthy dose of the Space Wolves. I believe nearly all (if not all) 40k factions are represented (are there any Tau or Necrons? not sure about that one) and this time, there is also a strong delegation from Singapore, with more than twice the number of Singaporean armies compared to last year.
At the time I'm writing this, I still have some work to do on my army. The Chimeras all need to be cleaned up with proper markings and numbers, 2 tank commanders need to be painted, my little medic needs a paintjob, I got 2 "proper" meltagunners to paint to replace 2 old (not so nice) conversions, and Major Schaeffer to touch up. Assuming I get all that done, I may just paint more of the classic metal Cadians to fill the ranks of my veterans - but that's a huge maybe.
So how are you guys doing? The Inquisition waits for no one. Are you ready?

RSVP Thread
I'll be there as usual, working on tables like a madman and generally getting things ready for the upcoming tournament in a little over a week... Speaking of tournament action, FAQ #2 will be going up no later than this evening, addressing some more questions recently asked...
So, who's coming?

Max Productive Hobby Nite!
Jeff and his table-fabricating cohorts Ivan and Iqbal completely got 2 tables mounted, sanded and ready to be modeled on next week. I believe one of those new tables also got some extra things on it too (which shall remain a secret for now). They also completed the detailed planning for that table. Amazing effort!
I'm totally happy with what I managed to get done too. I finished painting the 3 new bastions (including the double-height one with lascannons in its 2nd storey firing ports), finished detailing 2 ruined buildings which I basecoated before the league kicked-off, and finished painting 2 pieces of scatter terrain that match the ruined temple on our dead-grass table. In between, Iqbal, Ivan, Faizal and I messed around with one of the MDF buildings and put it together in a dry run - it looks sweet!
On top of that, I managed to get my 6th league game in too! In the Annihilation battle vs Rizal's 5th Company Ultramarines on the city table, the Ravenwing narrowly won. It was a close-fought game throughout, and I was pretty lucky the game ended in turn 5 :) - the Ravenwing has been notorious this season for not being able to last much longer after turn 5.
The gaming was quieter than usual, but furious nonetheless. I saw Faizal's IG annihilate Alvin's Alpha Legion, before defeating Redeye's force. Alvin went on to take on Iqbal's Alpha Legion - and naturally fought to a draw. Joe's WE took on Iz' scary Orks, but I'm not sure how that game ended. Same with Doc's DE and Peter's Black Legion (featuring a brand-new Black Legion Rhino). And towards the end of the gaming, brothers Khairul and Arzmi finally turned up, having survived a drawn-out harlequin wedding.
Khairul and Iqbal each took home a couple of the MDF building kits to assemble at home, and Faizal took home a ruined building kit ... those should look good once assembled and painted (and perhaps embellished with the many Imperial building bitz we have at Legio). The night was just jam-packed for us, and by the time it was over, we actually skipped the traditional late-night drinks and went home, tired but totally happy. I lurv Hobby Nite!

FAQ #1 Inquisition Wars Tournament
Does extra armor have to be repped on my vehicles?
Yes, absolutely! This is an easy conversion, and there are also armor kits available from Forge World. Extra armor needs to be clearly represented on your models, should you choose to use this option.
Does Commander Dante benefit from his own "Inspiring" rule?
Yes. As Dante is certainly within 12" of himself, he does indeed receive the benefits of this rule. Of course, this means there's not much use for the "master crafted" part of his axe. Remember, you can't re-roll a die twice! Hopefully we'll get a proper Blood Angels codex soon to fix this weird stuff! ;)
Do I have to tell my opponent what's inside my transport vehicles during the game?
Yes, folks need to declare what's inside transports if their opponent asks. While perhaps not the most "realistic", this does tend to save on hard feelings and confusion in games.
Until next time...

Arenxis Burning!
Jeff's Unclean was unveiled for the first time in all its stinky glory. Minthras' minions of multitudinous Nurglites faced off against Sammael's Ravenwing, who were intent on saving the souls of the Fallen. The double-header (both campaign and league game) was bitterly fought - both armies being elite, T5, fearless and had multiple Troops choices. In the end, the battle ended in a draw for the league, but turned out to be a moral victory for The Unclean. Jeff's dice-off won him the spaceport on Thessalonicus held by the Ravenwing.
Elsewhere, furious battles were being fought on Arenxis Minoris. And in each and every one, the forces of Chaos and their allies beat back the beleaguered Imperial forces. On Haides, Iz' scary Orks brushed aside Saim Hann resistance and captured Khairul's spaceport. But perhaps the most amazing feat was Iqbal's. In true Alpha Legion style, his Chaos Space Marine force infiltrated deep into enemy territory and captured the spaceport held by the Grey Knights, before repelling an Ultramarines counterattack, pushing back Rizal's 5th Company and capturing a ruins tile in the process. I can tell things are getting serious, as the Imperium players are starting to realize they need to work double hard to recover all the lost spaceports - and all gone in the very first week of the campaign! Tune into the next copy of the Aquila for more news, direct from the frontlines.
As is tradition, we recognized and presented the awards to Season 2's winners - Iz (league champion, purity seal), Arzmi (sportsmanship), Shazli (fanatic & marksman's honor) and myself (appearance) before resuming the frantic dice-rolling. Many pure league games (as opposed to league/campaign games) were fought, including Ivan's first-ever 40k game. Peter, Alvin, Subhan, Doc, Faizal, Redeye and all the folks were merrily and busily blasting, hacking and chucking dice and in general having a whale of a time. I even saw Alvin laying out Space Hulk tiles for some battles in the cold of space. And very special mention to Kai, who brought lots of chicken breasts, ate, shared, then got down to some serious hobbying at the hobby table. I even managed to assemble a bastion, in between hurling insults and abuse at Minthras' horde.
And on the very first Hobby Nite that people can register for the November 14th 40k tourney, 9 people registered. So if you want to be a contender at the Inquisition Wars on November 14th, DO NOT WAIT. There are only 17 slots left, and I know at least 8 of our friends in Singapore say they want to come.
I lurv Hobby Nite! And totally looking forward to next week! The Imperium will strike back (insert March of the Emperor here)!

Don't forget that tomorrow is the start of the 40K League AND the Arenxis Minoris campaign, so it's going to be a hot night. Also, at 9 PM we will be holding an awards ceremony for the Season 2 40K League winners, so try and get to Hobby Night before then so we can give them a proper Legio round of applause.
See you there!

Glory and Honour!!!
And I know Jeff, Ivan and Iqbal at the other hobby table had a glorious evening too. Jeff actually finished basecoating 14 (fourteen) models in the space of just one Hobby Nite. That's a lot of paint. Ivan finally got the ball rolling with his painting, and I truly look forward to seeing the models ready. Iqbal's heavily converted Chaos Rhino was finally primed, and I had a peek of his recently-turned Obliterator models - nice job. I won't reveal much more until he's ready to show all (which is next Hobby Nite ... lol).
And while the 6th Pzgdr rested in their figure case, there was much dice rolling to be had. I missed out most of the action (due to the aforementioned paintjob), but I did see Alvin's Chaos take on Iz' Orks on the city table. And later in the night, Iz' truly scary Orks were seen giving Khairul's Saim Hann a severe beating. I also noticed for the first time that the Saim Hann army has kustom tokens made to represent the psychic powers of the Seer Council. Nice.
I know Doc, Peter, Arzmi, Rizal, Faizal, Jin and a bunch of others were on hand with their armies, but I did miss out on the action. Perhaps some of you can update us on some of the highlights. And I almost forgot - it was the Hobby Nite after Raya, and the guys brought in all kinds of food and drink for all to partake, so there was much merriment to be had amidst the din of battle and heavy metal.
I lurv Hobby Nite! And next week, the kick-off of the League AND the campaign!

40K Tourney Rescheduled to Nov 14th
Most of you probably already know this, but the 40K "Inquisition Wars" tournament originally scheduled for Nov 7th has been moved back one week to Nov 14th. Please adjust your hobby calendars, schedules, and travel arrangements accordingly.
I've also updated the rules pack with this date change, as well as a clarification that we are definitely using the NEW Space Wolves codex for the tournament, should you choose to play that army. It will be released Oct 3rd, just before our 'codex cutoff'! Just click on the ad banner up top to get this new pack, or the link on the right.
Also, don't forget that registration begins October 1st, and slots will be given on a first come, first served basis as described in the rules pack. We fully expect this tournament to sell out, so I urge everyone who wants to play to not procrastinate and get your submission done on opening day...
Cheers

Now THAT's How You Do Pre-Hari Raya Celebrations!
The evening's festivities started with Jeff and I at the hobby table. Jeff was furiously working on The Unclean, and super-ambitiously proclaimed, "I might just get the Defiler AND the Chaos marines basecoated tonight!" .... alas, the Defiler took much longer to basecoat. Not to say it wasn't a productive night for the Forgemaster as he got a lot done with his smelly marines before that.
I had intended to paint the expanded Planetary Empires map (due to the larger than expected number of players, we had to expand the map to 72 tiles on 2 continents, connected by spaceports), but really got distracted - finished painting 3 terrain pieces, set-up a real nice looking cityfight table (and then realizing that I did not bring the CoD book), and got a couple of games in too. But all is not lost as both continents were primed, and the main continent has its basic drybrush done, as well as the giant lava flow and a spaceport.
The hobby tables promptly filled up with Ivan, Iqbal, Ceiran and Alvin joining in. As I write this I just realized that for a few hours EVERYONE at the hobby tables were painting CHAOS space marines of one sort or another! Alvin was working on his motor pool (Vindicator + Rhinos), Ceiran had his Defiler out, Iqbal had a row of WIP "loyalist" Alpha Legionnaires and Ivan had some impressive-looking WIP blighted Obliterators ... nice!
Talking about impressive-looking, my vote for star army of the night has to be for Khairul's much-awaited new Eldar army. After 3 weeks (THREE weeks!!!) of ultra-secret development marked by lack of sleep and some consistently furious painting, Khairul proudly unveiled his new Eldar army - a beautifully painted Saim Hann force, complete with the requisite jetbikes, a Seer Council on jetbikes, and supporting Dire Avengers, Fire Dragons and sleek Eldar grav tanks and transports. Dude, please post pics of your army - very very nice indeed!!! Lotsa conversions, crisp lines, ultra-smooth finishes, totally clean look and absolutely Saim Hann. You guys gotta check it out.
Doc's reinforced Dark Eldar arrived early for the festivities too, and we started rolling some dice on the city table - which was quite funny as we played a KP game in the city where his army was designed for objectives and mine was a mech force. His lower than usual tank-kill count meant that the Dark Eldar suffered defeat, after which he went for his oxygen break and dived into another battle with Arzmi's Daemonhunters (who I heard are still undefeated, praise the Emperor). Arzmi himself had earlier in the night dispatched the Lexxis' Chaos Lord Angra back to the Warp. Man, someone stop this guy (after the campaign ... lol). Lexxis' World Eaters had some "legendary" dice rolls as they fought my mech infantry veterans, and despite terribly mauling my Brandenburgers, Lord Angra was once again laid low to some fairly strange circumstances.
I know Dann's Whisper Blade and Jo's Chaos Daemons were duking it out on the deadlands table - I don't know how that turned out, but at one point, things weren't looking so good for the pointy-ears. Iz' scary Orks made a come-back, as his Waaaargh! overcame Rizal's stoic 5th Company Ultramarines (complete with 3 Land Raiders, a Vindicator AND a Rhino) in the city. I want to see the FULL 5th Company deployed in an Apoc game - how about that, Rizal? Another fight I missed was the new Saim Hann against Redeye's Space Marines - how did that one go?
And it was not all just 40k madness, as Kai and Saleem went head to head in a Heavy Gear battle on the other deadlands table (albeit dressed up with a town's worth of 15mm buildings). That battle actually looked picturesque. There's something about 15mm that makes wargames tables look grand. Hmm, time to break out the 11th Armoured Division again (and maybe even the old Napoleonics!).
Shazli came out of puasa hibernation and hung out till way after closing time. It was good to see him, and perhaps next week, we'll see the return of his Ultramarines too! Subhan dropped in too, bedecked in baju melayu and all, as he's back in town for the Hari Raya holidays.
Anyways, that was an AWESOME evening of festivities. I lurv Hobby Nite!!! Selamat Hari Raya y'all!

Why Friday Evening is da Bestest ...
... because I got to arrive early and finish matt spraying the bastion, primed and basecoated the new bunker, drybrushed and highlighted the bunch of ruins, assembled and primed the campaign map, and got in a bloody game vs a bunch of blue-armored mon-keigh. All this and having to go home in the middle of it because a bunch of aunts and uncles invited themselves to the house for buka puasa!
... because the hobby table was so chock-full with Jeff and The Unclean (amazing progress! You gotta check out the mean Rhino and Predator - rusted and weathered as only Papa Nurgle can allow - and fast too - another Rhino with killer extra armor plates went from sprue to assembled and basecoated within minutes), Ceiran and the last of his Possessed (who also ended the night rolling some dice against da Orkses), Kai and his 15mm minis, Ivan and his Nurgle servants and Iqbal and his Nurgle servants (hmmm, smell a pattern emerging?), we had to open another hobby table to fit everyone in!
... because the dice rolling was hectic and furious, with Doc's lurvly Orkeses, Dann's deep blue Eldar, Rizal's glorious 5th Company, Faizal's up-and-coming IG, Arzmi's new and improved Daemonhunters, Alvin's Alpha romeos, Jo's Daemons, the return of Paxter and Peter and their Chaos Marines from the Warp along with Din's pointy-eared warhost, and the presence of Saleem and Khairul hovering table to table without an army and just hanging out and breathing it all in!
... because we got to hang out at the mamak after Hobby Nite trading war stories and talking about the upcoming campaign (and me realizing that more people than I thought are interested in it) and eat and drink some horribly unhealthy but tasty food and drink and basically extending the good times till the wee hours of the morning!
I lurv Hobby Nite!!! See you guys next week ...

To Arms! The Liberation of Arenxis Minoris
But now the vile forces of Chaos have descended upon its hapless populace. The meagre planetary defence forces were utterly outclassed, outgunned and outmanouvered, and Arenxis Minoris fell within days to the deprivations of Chaos.
Now it is up to you, the brave men and women of the Imperial Guard, the Adeptus Astartes, the Adeptus Sororitas and all loyal forces of the Imperium, to make planetfall and purge it of all Chaos presence. The salvation of billions of subjects of the Emperor is in your hands.
This will be a 4- to 6-week campaign, using the Planetary Empires system with some minor tweaks to adapt to the background story. More details will be released soon, but for now I can share with you the following:
- There will be 2 factions - Chaos and Imperium. Orks and Dark Eldar will side with Chaos. Eldar and Tau can take either side (but cannot change sides mid-campaign). I don't know about Necrons and Nids yet.
- All battles must be played at Legio. Campaign commences October 2nd.
- Campaign battles can count as League games, provided that for that particular game you use the list you submitted for the league registration, and you play against another league player whom you haven't played against yet. Obviously, campaign-specific rules and effects will not come into play for campaign games that are also league games. More on that later.
- For more info, come talk to me at Hobby Nite ...

How about you?

Absolut Toy Soldier! (+ the beginnings of a new plague)
Also at the main hobby table was Ivan and Jeff. Ivan was on hand to show us some amazing GS work with his smelly termies and blited daemon princes. Them's some real skills, dude ... looking forward to seeing that all done up (perhaps after some dip?). Talking about dip, Jeff's Unclean are coming along nicely, in all their stinkiness. The Lord was done, as was a couple of other termies. But the star had to be the Rhino. In the space of one hobby nite, the Rhino was assembled, fitted with kustom Unclean extra armor (you gotta check these out), then primed and base-coated. Now we are all waiting to see it dipped!
Talking about dip again, Faizal's new veterans also got the dip treatment - and they look awesome! His IG took on Rizal's Ultramarines (complete with the cool cheapo no-sponson Predator) and I think the Astartes won that kill-point battle. Back to the dip, Dann finally saw the light, that is, the dip-light, I think. After seeing how FAST the Unclean is coming along, he had an epiphany - that's how his Nids are going to be done at long last (and I secretly had one of my own too - for my O&G). This dip thing is contagious!
Khairul and Arzmi hung out for awhile, no doubt getting infected by the new contagion. And amidst all that, I managed to plant the seed of yet another new army in some people :) GW should start paying me ...
I lurv Hobby Nite! See you guys next week! Ave Legio!

I Lurv Hobby Nite!!!
On the other gaming tables, it was interesting to see Arzmi's new-config Inquisitorial army - much more flexible than the old one, IMHO. Joe's daemons were on the rampage, ploughing through Eldar and mon-keigh alike. Iqbal took on the Inquisition with his Raven Guard - it's always good to see his marines. Faizal's new IG army is progressing along nicely - the brand-new Leman Russ Executioner model he brought is niiice. Khairul's second game was his baptism of fire in Planetstrike - and his defence held my Alaitoc to a standstill.
Jeff brought his Unclean terminators and daemons, all primed in white. I believe the intent was to paint up the Lord in termie armor with base colors, and then give him the dip. But what happened was truly amazing - the termie Lord was painted and dipped, and so was another termie, and a few daemons to boot. On top of that, he also finished basing some of the Catachans from last week. Talk about productive!
I don't know about you, but this dip thing is a true revelation for me. Previously I've only read about it. But now having seen real-life examples - I'm sold. The termie Lord is particularly impressive. Jeff just block-painted base colors over the white undercoat, picking out metal details and cloak, etc. No highlighting, no shading, just flat colors. Then the dip brush came out. And a couple of seconds later - it's completely shaded, and actually gave the effect of highlights too! He's going to actually paint up the highlights for the Lord after the dip is dry, but he'd save a lot of time already. I won't get further into this, go check out his blog - I fully expect him to post pics there.
And Jeff was doing most of this while chatting with Saleem, who also brought some food. In fact, Saleem and I broke fast at the Legio. Redeye was there as well, assembling his brand-new Predator, no doubt from his newly-acquired Astartes armored column. Looking forward to seeing that painted in his chapter's white livery.
Anyways, I ramble. Looking forward to next hobby nite - and actually getting to my bastions :)

Nov 40K Tournament Good to Go Folks...
Just a quick post here to clarify a couple of things that you might be concerned about, considering the changes that have been announced.
First off, everything is a GO for the Inquisition Wars 40K Tournament we're holding in November. No changes have been made to the tournament with the exception of capacity. We will have 24 slots available, unless another club member builds additional tables. In all other respects it's business as usual. Feel free to make travel plans and commit your calendar to this event- it is absolutely happening with no rescheduling, cancellation or anything like that. No worries!
Second, please note that if you wish to attend Hobby Night and are not a member, you MUST RSVP your attendance. Simply email us through the Legio Malaysia contact email, or you can email me directly for those that have my address. SMS to me is also fine. At 5:00 PM, we will not take any more RSVPs. I'll turn the list in to my guard house, and only those people on the list will be allowed in. NO EXCEPTIONS. It doesn't cost any money, and all you have to do is to let us know you're coming. Also, for active Legio Malaysia members, RSVP is not needed. You have an open invitation every night to come as you wish. Legio Malaysia members may also reserve tables if they wish- simply email us and we'll set that table aside for you.
As always, if anyone has any questions or doesn't understand something, please drop us a line and let us know. We'll get ya sorted...
Cheers

The End of the Beginning: The New Legio Malaysia
Like many of you, I’ve been a hobby guy for a very long time. I was living in Kentucky when I purchased my first lead miniatures- some “Terror Bears” made by Ral Partha as I recall. I painted them with a plastic bristle brush that came with a Testors enamel model painting set. I absolutely loved it, and that experience was a turning point in my life that has led to where I am now. I’ve got 25 years of hobby experience under my belt, and I’m fortunate enough to have made a career in the toy soldier industry. It means a great deal to me, and it was my passion for the hobby that motivated me to start Legio Malaysia last year.
I’ve been lucky enough to fall in with some fantastic gaming communities over the years. As I moved around the pattern was generally the same- I’d find a local group of gamers, and chip in as I was able to make tables, organize, or do whatever was needed to make things fun and exciting. Others who did the same thing in these groups taught me a great deal about painting, terrain building, tournaments, and other hobby skills that have stayed with me to this day. When Azlan and I started Legio Malaysia, we had this sort of model in mind- turn a group of gamers into a club of gamers. It’s been over a year since we began, and our initial vision for Legio Malaysia has not come to pass.
For me, it’s a shame. I had really high hopes that yes, may have been unrealistic. I had hoped by now that we’d have a core of people that were going to step up and help us with the administration, growth, and promotion of Legio Malaysia. People have been more than happy to come and play, but very few have volunteered to become a larger part of the club. In the absence of volunteers, planning and execution of Legio events has fallen to me and Azlan almost entirely. While doing this has actually been quite fun, it’s also been too much for us. We’ve scheduled too much, taken on too much, and have been too ambitious in our plans for hobby growth. We waited a year to see if things would change, but they haven’t. So, where do we go from here?
Ending Legio Malaysia is not an option either of us wish to entertain. We want a place to play, and we certainly enjoy the company and hobby of many of the people who have become members. So, this isn’t the end of Legio Malaysia. However, this is a turning point for the club, and we’re making significant changes. We’re going to narrow our focus, trim back on events, and keep things simple. What does all that mean? Here’s what we’re doing:
* We are no longer accepting any more membership applications. We are not accepting any membership renewals. Once current memberships expire, that’s it for your membership. From this point forward membership will be by invitation only. No dues will be taken, and Legio Malaysia will no longer collect money from members in any capacity.
* Azlan and myself will be the initial/founding members of the “new” Legio Malaysia. All terrain, tables, and other materials will remain with Legio Malaysia and be disposed of as the club leadership (us for the time being) sees fit.
* From this point forward anyone is welcome to attend hobby night unless they’ve been banned by the club. All that we require is that you RSVP your attendance by 5 PM Hobby Night to either myself, Azlan, or the Legio Malaysia contact email. The list of people who RSVP will be given to the gate guard, and ONLY those people will be allowed to enter. You don’t need to pay to attend. Great news!
* All future activities and events will be done by membership consensus. If the club membership is not willing to chip in the time, work, and money, the event doesn’t happen. Simple!
* For the upcoming November 40K tournament, I volunteer to build TWO tables, which will give our tournament a capacity of 24 players. If no one else builds a table(s), 24 will be the limit for the tournament. I also volunteer to administrate Season 3 of the 40K League, build trophies, and run the Wild Card and League Championships. No other events or activities are currently scheduled for Legio Malaysia.
So, there you have it folks. I imagine this announcement is largely a happy one for everyone. You get to keep coming and playing games, and you don’t have to pay for it. I’m not going to keep scheduling events and trying to get people to come to things- you’ll be left alone to your own devices to play the games you wish (as long as it’s miniatures. Just like before, no card or video games, or prepainted games like Monsterpocalypse ) I’m going to start doing my own thing just like everyone else, and chip in for the occasional campaign or tournament.
So, I look forward to seeing the same faces having the same fun every Hobby Night. The blog will continue to keep folks informed as to the latest Legio news. Welcome to the new Legio Malaysia…
