Believe it or not we've been doing this for the better part of five years now as a club. May there be many more!

We've got tournaments planned for Flames of War and Warhammer 40,000, as well as campaigns, our Birthday Bash, the Golden Kris (with new trophies you're going to love!), and much, much more. Tomorrow night bring your armies and get stuck in folks- let's send this year off with as many games as possible between now and the end of the year!

So, who's coming? RSVP here and join us for another great night of hobby!

The Chosen 2012 results

Hail Joe Soon! The Legio Malaysia 2012 year end tournament winner!
The Chosen One!!!
Warlord Joe, leading his extreme chaos demons force easily, without even breaking a sweat, swept away all pretenders before him. Heads were lopped, limbs severed, guts sliced open, blood flowed like monsoon rain...until at the very end only Joe stood with an evil grin. A very big congratulation to The Chosen One. May 2013 bring you more victories.

Joining Joe on the winners list are Faizal Sani, who grabbed the best painted award for his very nicely painted Space Wolves and Hassanal, who walked away with the Sportsmanship award.
Faizal in black and Hassanal who towered above all else.
Legio Malaysia would like to thank everyone who participated.
Special thanks to the Battlefront Miniatures Malaysia staff; Shukor, Rizal and Tarmizi for helping out. Arzmi who had to be the ringer with all the early and last minute work came up cancellations ;). Also a shout out to Chang for the food.

Thank you everyone. Hope you had fun.

Final result standings.

Hobby Night Recap 30/11/12

The Black Steel Tournament is over with Kwok emerging as the Champion. However, pictures of the awesome 4x4 tables that the Legio Officers have built specially for the tournament has yet to surface. In case you haven't seen it, here they are:

The 4x4 Feral Pasture table

The 4x4 Deep Freeze table

Don't they look happy? Painted models and proper (awesome) wargaming tables equals to a fun Hobby Night experience :).

Anyway, WH40K is catching fire again as The Chosen is less than two weeks away. Speaking of which, as of this moment, there's still 4 spaces available if you want to join in the fun. If you're interested to join, make sure to register yourselves with the organizers. Click on the big Chosen banner above for more details.

Imperial Guard vs Blood Angels

Space Wolves vs Necrons
Funny thing about the SW-Necron matchup above, it turned out to be a shooting range match between the Necron Destroyers and SW Thunderwolf Cavalry. Yes, you've read that sentence correctly. You gotta contact Syamael & Subhan for more  information about this match.

The gladiatorial arena was opened again with Khairul, Arzmi, Zaki and myself taking part in the ever popular Spartacus board game. The most hilarious moment of the game was when House Solonius audaciously tried to win the game with only an axe left in the stable. One, as in singular, freaking axe. That was it; no gladiators, no guards, no slaves, and no other weapon whatsoever. Such epic moments are what makes this game an experience to remember. Laughing so hard till our stomachs hurt and tears fell down hahahaha.

Till next week, Ave Legio!

Iron Painter 2012, Concluded

November 3rd, 2012 at 10.30 am marked the start of Iron Painter 2012. Eight courageous hobbyists took part in this 24-hour challenge, but only seven prevailed by November 4th, 2012 at 10.30 am.
Ladies and gentlemen, we present you the magnificent seven Iron Painters of 2012.
2012 Iron Painters (L to R) : Shukur, Janice, Alvin, Khairul, Jeff, Joshua, Iqbal
A huge congratulations to Khairul who emerged as the overall Iron Painter Champion, and also earning his first ever Purity Seal. Meanwhile, Iqbal deserved an honourable mention as he was the only one who managed to achieve the Iron Halo award for painting 50 models. Special kudos to Janice for being the first female in Malaysia to participate and complete the Iron Painter challenge. And last but not least, to Jamie, who pulled out from the challenge at 4 am due to extreme fatigue. We truly appreciate your passion for the hobby and for taking part in this event.
Here are the seven beautiful armies painted in only 24 hours during this event. Keep in mind, absolutely nothing seen here was painted before the event itself, and that includes the display boards.
Khairul's Blackhorse Calvary Mechanised Company
Iqbal's Nurgle Force
Shukur's Soviet Tankovy Batalon
Jeff's British Welsh Guard
Alvin's Iron Warriors
Janice's Ork Hunting Party
Joshua's Khornate CSM

Some of the Iron Painters have posted their personal experience taking part in the event, so do checkout their blog links on the sidebar to our left. Again, congratulations to all Iron Painters.

Ave Legio!

Hobby Night 19th October : RSVP

This week marks the end of our FoW Operation Case Yellow. After a bitter start the Germans forces have managed to gain the upper hand but just slighty. Should the Germans win, the result will be a minor German victory. If the Allies manage to win then this campaign will result in an overall draw.

Which would then mean that Hauptman Nahri (Overall Axis Commander ) and Oui Capitaine Arzmi (Overall Allied Commander) will wear their respective armor and duel it out in the arena. Injury and victory is still at 2 odds. Decaptitation gets you 3. Only gold dinaris can be used to partake in this once in a lifetime match-up.

Case Yellow Turn 4 Recap and RSVP

Taking advantage of the momentum provided last turn by Khairul's Luftlandesturm victory, the Germans continued to press the assault. Azlan's 5-Panzerdivision engaged Mark's British Infantry Company, while Iqbal's Leichte Pioneerkompanie battled with Chang's French Infantry Company. If you haven't been paying attention, last week's mission was Dust Up.

As mentioned earlier, Azlan's armored thrust was met by Mark's British Infantry Company. It was a hard fought fight for the Germans, with Mark's artillery relentlessly pounding Azlan's tanks as they tried to advance. After a failed headlong charge in the first turn, Hauptmann Azlan was brutally reminded of the firepower possessed by the Brits. Somehow, the failed attempt forced the Hauptmann to showcase his excellent generalship by concentrating fire on the infantry squads hidden in the woods, eliminating them one at a time and at the same time slowly advancing from the flanks. By the time the Brits realised what the opponent was up to, it was already too late. Suffice to say, German Victory!

The Brits fending off the German attack.
Meanwhile, in the outskirts of a remote town, another battle took place. Although it was a relatively small engagement (1250 points), that does not mean that it was less exciting as compared to others. My Leichte Pioneerkompanie threw wave upon wave of bodies forward only to be met by stiff defense of Chang's French Infantry. In this battle, the Germans lacked air superiority as the remote dense forest prohibited the airplanes from bombing enemies at will (a.k.a no fives on the airplane dice rolls). The Panzer IB squad led by the company commander was the hero of the day, as it mowed down countless squads of infantry with its Twin MG. Luck was probably on their side too as they managed to dodge numerous shots from the French Somua tanks. The Panzer IB heroic actions allowed one of the Pioneer Squads to dash for the objective. German Victory!

Mighty Panzer I and their Pioneer escorts.
It was two solid turns of consecutive victory for the Germans. The mission for Turn 5 will be Free For All, and this will be the most important turn for both sides should they wish to secure campaign victory.

RSVP if you're ready for combat.
RSVP if you thirst for battle.
RSVP if you wanna taste victory.
And do RSVP too if you're just planning to gain some Denari.

See you tomorrow!

Iqbal

Hobby Night 21/09/12 Recap

Turn 3 of Operation: Case Yellow...

Due to some very weird circumstances, only one engagement occurred in Turn 3. It was between Mark's British infantry against Khairul's German airborne pioneers. The other captains from both sides were probably either taking some much needed R&R or were busy planning their attack plans.

Suffering from a similar fate that had befallen Shukur's French Tank Company, this time it was Mark's Brits  that fell victim to death from the skies. The gliders appeared out of nowhere, and contested the objective even before the first turn began. This sudden strike put them on the back foot from the beginning, and the Germans' sheer ferocity made it even worse. The heroic sacrifice by the British Company Commander was not enough and the Brits were forced to retreat even before their reinforcements arrived. German Victory!

German Victory!
That single victory was enough to give the week's win to the Axis. Turn 4 should heat up as the Germans now have a chance to edge a slight victory result for the campaign. Next turn will see the commanders playing the Dust Up mission.

Rare attendeees such as Joe Soon, Faizal 'Paxter' and Doc Selvam were among the 15 wargamers that attended last Hobby Night. Amazingly, 4 different game types were played that night; Flames of War, Warmachine/Hordes,Warhammer40K and Spartacus. We might be wrong, but there's a very high probability that our club owns the only copy of this fantastic boardgame in whole of Asia. If you've watched the Spartacus series and enjoyed the "blood" scenes then you must give this game a try! It's simply awesome!

We'd also like to remind you that registration for the Iron Painter has started. Get your Magacon II ticket and inform us of your ticket number. That is all you need to do, it's as simple as that. Come and join us!

RSVP and Case Yellow Turn 2 Recap

HOLD THE LINES!!

After a rough turn one for the German invaders, they redoubled their efforts to break throught the French lines last week. Three more games were played in Turn 2, and the mission was 'Hold The Line'.

While making their way to engage the enemy, Shukur's French Tank Company was caught off-guard by a sudden attack from Khairul's Luftlandesturm Kompanie. It was a quick and brutal affair, one that embodied the principle of Blitzkrieg warfare. German Victory!

Shukur's French Tank Company
Khairul's Luftlandesturm Kompanie

Upon hearing their colleagues were ambushed, Nick's French Tank Company took caution of their advance. That decision was critical as it allowed them to maneuver from an ambush set by Azlan's Leichte Panzerkompanie. The ambush was very well set-up and it turned into a very tightly contested battle. After a long hard fight, the French managed to gain ground and pushed the Germans back. French Victory!

Azlan's Leichte Panzerkompanie

On the Maginot Line itself, Arzmi's French Infantry were met with stubborn resistance by Iqbal's Leichte Pioneerkompanie. Despite the French's anti-air superiority against the Germans' Stuka, thus avoiding themselves from aerial bombardment, the 88s foiled every French advancements. It was a very long and gruelling battle (>10 turns) and turned into a war of attrition. Time had to be called as the battle has spoilt over into the wee hours of Saturday. Stalemate!

With the battle remained even after Turn 2, will Turn 3 proved to be the turning point? Will the French put their pride aside and call for help from their fellow Allies, or will the Germans finally able to breakthrough into France? Stay tune for next week.

On a similar note, registrations for Legio Malaysia's 2nd Iron Painter has been opened. All you need to do is (1) contact us on Hobby Night or via email and (2) give us your MaGaCon ticket number (once you've purchased your ticket, of course). Yes, you've read that right; there are no further additional costs required other than the ticket itself. The reigning champion has clearly declared his intentions to defend the title. So, are you man enough for the challenge? Sign up now!

Ave Legio!

Iqbal

Hey guys a quick post-script for Case Yellow players! Above is the campaign tree we are using for Case Yellow scenarios. German players should note that tonight is essential for them if they want to have any chance for victory. If you lose the campaign turn tonight, the best you can hope for is a draw!

Good luck to everyone tonight, and have fun!! The mission for the night is 'Pincer'...

RSVP, Iron Painter, and Case Yellow Turn 1 Recap

Hobby Night was a blast!
It also marked the start for Operation Case Yellow, an Early War Flames of War campaign we are running. Three games were played in the first campaign turn, with six fully painted (and based) armies being displayed.

Khairul's Luftlandesturm Kompanie fought a tightly contested battle against Arzmi's French Infantry army. The game was a real nail biter to watch as many game-turning moments rested on a die roll. However, in the end the French were able to hang on and prevent the German airborne troops from securing their objectives. French Victory!

In the second battle Shukur's French Tank Company duked it out with Nahri's German armor. The game went very quickly, with bold thrusts made by both sides in a battle that saw much of the armies missing off table in reserves. In the end, Nahri's German tanks proved to be too much for Shukur's own armor. German Victory!

In the last grinding battle, Mark's British Infantry managed to gain the upper ground against Iqbal's Leichte Pionierkompanie and eke out the win. French (Allied) Victory! With three games finished, the results meant that for the first turn of six the French combined forces won the turn. Looking to our campaign tree, this means that tonight everyone will be playing the "Hold the Line" mission from the main rulebook. Good luck to everyone!

The usual Warmachine/Horde frequenters were also present last week, bringing along various nicely painted Colossals and Battle Engines to the table. It was a pleasure having you guys hanging out during Hobby Nights!

Finally, we want to let everyone know that registration for Iron Painter has begun! All you need to do is contact us on Hobby Night or via email and give us your MaGaCon ticket number (once you've purchased your ticket, of course). There is no additional cost to participate in the Iron Painter, but we do need to know you're coming so we can have a painting station all set up for you. Accept the Challenge! Sign up for Iron Painter NOW!

So, enjoy everyone- we're looking forward to another great Hobby Night tonight!

RSVP and Looking for DVD Love...

This is it folks! Tomorrow begins Legio Malaysia's much anticipated "Case: Yellow" Early War Flames of War campaign. We're looking forward to seeing all the armies on display and filming everyone's tales of conquest, sorrow, and revenge. Please post up here and let us know if you're coming.

On a side note, I've got a general request. I'm fairly certain I've loaned the above pictured DVD to someone in Legio Malaysia, and it hasn't been returned. It's been so long I don't actually remember who has it, so if you're the one I'd really appreciate you bringing it back. I've got an Elefant model with my name on it, and I want to review this DVD again before I start painting it. Many thanks!!

Independence Day Hobby Night RSVP

Yes,  we're open for gaming this Friday night guys. And its gonna be a night to remember for sure!

First up, we have the first and only copy of Spartacus : A Game of Blood & Threachery boardgame in the whole of Asia :) And just how did we manage this incrediale feat you ask? Let's just say that they used a certain Legio officer's body shot for the cover art. The actor's head was photoshopped. You can tell if you look closely...

Secondly, the armies for next month's FoW early war campaign, Operation Case Yellow will be making their pre-war military exercises. Expect to see gliders and parachutes dropping onto the battlefields.

Third, we have inside information that a certain Faizal Sani will be coming. He's completed his tour of duty up north and it'll be great to see him again at Legio. If we're lucky, we might be able to see his superbly painted Night Lords army ;)

Fourth......wow...be still my beating heart...  Doc Selvam also said he will make it! I cannot and will not personally vouch for this cause he did ditch me a while back (hehe). But you just know that when the Doc's around things are gonna get preettttyyyy wilddd.
I'm pretty sure Doc will be spending all his gold when he sees the slaves at the market.

RSVP with full independence.

Happy Independence Day Malaysia and everyone!!!

Note : Legio will open at 6pm.

K3: The Ong Kindred

There's no denying that the Ong Kindred is the truest Kindred Champion as of date. No disrespect to the past champions, but this partnership shared the same genetic material. We've known Chris for quite some time now, but none of us knew that he had a wargaming brother before. This article/interview should provide some limelight to them. Well, you gotta know your champ folks!

When did both of you started to be involved in miniature wargaming?
Chris: I started way back in 2004.
Daniel: Somewhere in 2008.

We've known Chris for quite some time, but what has Daniel been up to till K3?
Chris: Daniel has always been behind the scenes, slowly building up his army; Tyranids at first then Chaos Space Marines. He has been gaming in UK, but not that frequent due to studies. When he came back in 2011, both of us started gaming at home. Then, slowly at Hobby Forge. Eventually I told him that he should join our local tournaments, with K3 being the first for him.
Daniel: What my bro said.

What is your approach towards building your K3 armies?
Daniel: Seriously, is there anything else than melee?
Chris: I always knew my brother's style of play was super fierce and it's all about melee. Plus, I wanted to use my Necrons since I haven't used them since 2004. So, with him being super melee, I've decided to take the support role by backing him up instead of trying to be the one taking the kills. I wanted him to be the one to do the pawning and this in return, will give him the confidence.

Which army(ies) are your favourites, and why?
Chris: My favourite army thus far is actually Chaos Daemons. The reason is the nature of them being super random, as being random gives much narrative and a good laugh in the end. Its not so much on who wins or looses but what happens in between
Daniel: I would have to say Tyranids, most definitely. For mostly that they are a tide of writhing claws and teeth as the fluff goes. The very idea of their numbers engulfing whole worlds and solar systems with sheer number is just...EPIC. Game/Hobby-wise, they look really awesome and there are more than enough bits to go around for all sorts of model experimentation. Painting them might be tedious though (swarm and all) but hey, their worth every second. Alternatively, I always fancied the idea of Chaos Space Marines and so I started one, but haven't gone too much into them just yet.

We have been hearing that both of you are entering the business side of the hobby with Tabletop Boutique. What is it actually all about? Strictly resin-casted bases or more?
Daniel: Correction. Not us, but let my bro tell you all about it.
Chris: Table Top Boutique is a one man army which I recently started in January 2012. My passion for miniature wargaming has evolved and it was that time I decide to start something that would support miniature wargaming as a whole.

Way before that, I started with creating foam blocks, the reason is I have quite a fair bit of model count on my 40k side and no storage for them. I did look into companies that sell cases but the prices doesn't seem to match. So I've decided to do my own research and make my own 'professional' troop transport. It's still WIP though but I've learnt that I can actually produce the same or better quality carry-cases as compared to those famous ones out there for only 1/3 of the price. Due to my day job, sourcing overseas and establishing proper business channels is a little tough but I hope to get something out by year end. Though during off peak seasons, I also make terrains as well.

Next came with themed bases. Initially I used to buy online but one day I thought to myself that I could also do it and so I tried. After a few attempts I decided to showcase it to some of my friends, receiving many positive feedback and comments. I decide to start learning to cast resin as it is crazy to make ~80 of the same bases for my troops. Resin casting is the way to go.

It was then that I met a group from Singapore called No Limits Gaming. By networking with them and realizing that they were organizing a tournament series in Singapore, I thought to myself, "Why don't I sponsor some of my bases for their tournament since it was a good way to see how my bases respond to the mass crowd?". Plus, it was also a good method to officially make TTB known of outside of Malaysia. They were looking for sponsors anyway, so it was a Win-Win situation. The respond was good and I even sold off all my bases. One thing lead to another and this lead me to network with other players, organizers & retailers in Singapore and TTB got a little bit more of popular. Now, I also do themed tables.

What can you tell us about your K3 gaming experience?
Daniel: Being the champion on my first real tournament, nothing can beat that!
Chris: I love it! As always the Kindred series always seem to surprise me through gaming and the hobby experience. The timing keeping was excellent, I was able to nerd-out all morning and still be back home in time to spend time with my daughter in the late afternoon and a good husband in the evening. At the end, everyone always go home happy with something.

K3 experience is great for everyone as it does not alienate amateurs from veterans, it brings everyone onto the same level. Still there's lots more room to improve on in the areas of communication, publicity and the system to improve the tournament ranking system to encourage a stronger competitive sport.

Any suggestions on how we can improve future Legio Malaysia events?
Chris: l feel the tournament system can be improved on to encourage more competitive spirit. Because right now, everything seems too flat and there's no distinct ranking system. But, that's just my personal opinion.

Wow, I've said a lot! On my side, if the committee permits, I would like use FB as a social media platform to promote/manage future sanctioned 40k Legio tournaments - I know this because I do this for a living. LOL (I work in a digital solutions agency as the art director). Finally thanks for your time and interest with me, Daniel & TTB.
