Hobby Night 21/09/12 Recap

Turn 3 of Operation: Case Yellow...

Due to some very weird circumstances, only one engagement occurred in Turn 3. It was between Mark's British infantry against Khairul's German airborne pioneers. The other captains from both sides were probably either taking some much needed R&R or were busy planning their attack plans.

Suffering from a similar fate that had befallen Shukur's French Tank Company, this time it was Mark's Brits  that fell victim to death from the skies. The gliders appeared out of nowhere, and contested the objective even before the first turn began. This sudden strike put them on the back foot from the beginning, and the Germans' sheer ferocity made it even worse. The heroic sacrifice by the British Company Commander was not enough and the Brits were forced to retreat even before their reinforcements arrived. German Victory!

German Victory!
That single victory was enough to give the week's win to the Axis. Turn 4 should heat up as the Germans now have a chance to edge a slight victory result for the campaign. Next turn will see the commanders playing the Dust Up mission.

Rare attendeees such as Joe Soon, Faizal 'Paxter' and Doc Selvam were among the 15 wargamers that attended last Hobby Night. Amazingly, 4 different game types were played that night; Flames of War, Warmachine/Hordes,Warhammer40K and Spartacus. We might be wrong, but there's a very high probability that our club owns the only copy of this fantastic boardgame in whole of Asia. If you've watched the Spartacus series and enjoyed the "blood" scenes then you must give this game a try! It's simply awesome!

We'd also like to remind you that registration for the Iron Painter has started. Get your Magacon II ticket and inform us of your ticket number. That is all you need to do, it's as simple as that. Come and join us!

RSVP and Case Yellow Turn 2 Recap

HOLD THE LINES!!

After a rough turn one for the German invaders, they redoubled their efforts to break throught the French lines last week. Three more games were played in Turn 2, and the mission was 'Hold The Line'.

While making their way to engage the enemy, Shukur's French Tank Company was caught off-guard by a sudden attack from Khairul's Luftlandesturm Kompanie. It was a quick and brutal affair, one that embodied the principle of Blitzkrieg warfare. German Victory!

Upon hearing their colleagues were ambushed, Nick's French Tank Company took caution of their advance. That decision was critical as it allowed them to maneuver from an ambush set by Azlan's Leichte Panzerkompanie. The ambush was very well set-up and it turned into a very tightly contested battle. After a long hard fight, the French managed to gain ground and pushed the Germans back. French Victory!

Azlan's Leichte Panzerkompanie

On the Maginot Line itself, Arzmi's French Infantry were met with stubborn resistance by Iqbal's Leichte Pioneerkompanie. Despite the French's anti-air superiority against the Germans' Stuka, thus avoiding themselves from aerial bombardment, the 88s foiled every French advancements. It was a very long and gruelling battle (>10 turns) and turned into a war of attrition. Time had to be called as the battle has spoilt over into the wee hours of Saturday. Stalemate!

With the battle remained even after Turn 2, will Turn 3 proved to be the turning point? Will the French put their pride aside and call for help from their fellow Allies, or will the Germans finally able to breakthrough into France? Stay tune for next week.

RSVP, Iron Painter, and Case Yellow Turn 1 Recap

Hobby Night was a blast!
It also marked the start for Operation Case Yellow, an Early War Flames of War campaign we are running. Three games were played in the first campaign turn, with six fully painted (and based) armies being displayed.

Khairul's Luftlandesturm Kompanie fought a tightly contested battle against Arzmi's French Infantry army. The game was a real nail biter to watch as many game-turning moments rested on a die roll. However, in the end the French were able to hang on and prevent the German airborne troops from securing their objectives. French Victory!

In the second battle Shukur's French Tank Company duked it out with Nahri's German armor. The game went very quickly, with bold thrusts made by both sides in a battle that saw much of the armies missing off table in reserves. In the end, Nahri's German tanks proved to be too much for Shukur's own armor. German Victory!

In the last grinding battle, Mark's British Infantry managed to gain the upper ground against Iqbal's Leichte Pionierkompanie and eke out the win. French (Allied) Victory! With three games finished, the results meant that for the first turn of six the French combined forces won the turn. Looking to our campaign tree, this means that tonight everyone will be playing the "Hold the Line" mission from the main rulebook. Good luck to everyone!

The usual Warmachine/Horde frequenters were also present last week, bringing along various nicely painted Colossals and Battle Engines to the table. It was a pleasure having you guys hanging out during Hobby Nights!

Finally, we want to let everyone know that registration for Iron Painter has begun! All you need to do is contact us on Hobby Night or via email and give us your MaGaCon ticket number (once you've purchased your ticket, of course). There is no additional cost to participate in the Iron Painter, but we do need to know you're coming so we can have a painting station all set up for you. Accept the Challenge! Sign up for Iron Painter NOW!

So, enjoy everyone- we're looking forward to another great Hobby Night tonight!

RSVP and Looking for DVD Love...

This is it folks! Tomorrow begins Legio Malaysia's much anticipated "Case: Yellow" Early War Flames of War campaign. We're looking forward to seeing all the armies on display and filming everyone's tales of conquest, sorrow, and revenge. Please post up here and let us know if you're coming.

On a side note, I've got a general request. I'm fairly certain I've loaned the above pictured DVD to someone in Legio Malaysia, and it hasn't been returned. It's been so long I don't actually remember who has it, so if you're the one I'd really appreciate you bringing it back. I've got an Elefant model with my name on it, and I want to review this DVD again before I start painting it. Many thanks!!
