Another hobby night in the books

Hobby night was a little quieter than the last time, with 10-12 people showing up and playing games of Warmachine and 40K. Good times! As for me, I spent the evening framing a new 4' x 6' 40K table. This will be the first table we do that will have a little bit more of a theme, rather than trying to remain "game neutral" like our tables thus far have. The next one after this will be a dedicated Flames of War table, followed by another 40K table, or possibly a Warmachine one. Time will tell!

Also, Han joined up and became our newest Legionnaire Friday night. Welcome, brother! If you haven't joined yet, why not? Becoming a member confers great benefits, and allows Legio Malaysia to continue building tables, hosting activities, and run future events. Get in the game and support the Legion!

I think we're on to something here...

17 people turned out tonight for some serious hobby bedlam- AWESOME! We unveiled the new third table with some new scatter terrain as well, and we also held the first club meeting for Legio Malaysia. I'd say the meeting went well, because we signed up our first three members!

We'll post membership benefits and costs very soon, but the best thing to do is come out to a hobby night and see it all for yourself. Everyone had a lot of fun, and played a lot of games as well. See you next time!

Hobby Emergency Being Dealt With

Yes folks, I regret to say we experienced a "hobby shortfall" in the last Hobby Night. I'm ashamed to admit a couple of 40K players were forced to play on a bare, unadorned tabletop due to a lack of gaming space. Yes, I'm afraid it's true. However, we're not getting our heads down. We have lit the fires of the mighty Legio terrain forges, and even now we're building another two mini tables to make a third full sized temporary table. We're also building and painting more scatter terrain, including some Flames of War, Warhammer, and Warhammer 40,000 pieces. We plan to have the third table operational for this week's Hobby Night, and (crossing fingers) another 3 4x6 tables finished the next week for a total of six tables. By mid June, we plan to have 10 tables good to go for some truly awesome gaming times on Friday Hobby Nights.

So, please don't be too vexed with us. We're thrilled with the response we've gotten thus far, and believe me when I say that things are only going to keep getting better over the coming months.

The Über House of Hobby

This morning, I visited one of THE best shops I've ever seen anywhere for advanced hobby work. Casting materials, specialized hobby tools, conversion materials, and everything in between. When Saleem, Andy, and I first planned this trip, it sounded like a good shop to visit. This place, Multifilla Sdn Bhd in Balakong, exceeded my wildest expectations.

If you're interested in getting just about anything for terrain or table work, this is the place. Want to sculpt figures? They have a massive selection of sculpting tools and putty. Plasticard, brass, tin, mild steel, brass etched goodies, acrylic rods, basswood, MDF board, etc, etc, etc...



The owner, Leong Boo Wun, was friendly and very knowledgable. Explain to him what you want to get done, and he'll take you right there. For instance, I told him I was looking for a resin to make water effects with. Not only did he present two different options, he also suggested that I use "glass microspheres" to simulate churning water. Awesome.



He also carries a large range of power tools specifically designed for hobby applications. His main range is a line of hobby specialist power tools from a German company called Proxxon. Lathes, routers, mini table saws, etc. He even has some of the Proxxon range open and available to try for yourself. I looked at a couple of rotary drills and was very impressed with the low noise, lack of lateral vibration, and overall quality. Wow, wow, wow.

If you checked out my recent blog post on making a mold, ALL of the materials I mention in there are available at Multifilla. Silicone RTV rubber, resin, clay- all of it. Nice.

Personally, I emptied my pockets there. I picked up resin for water effects, along with green, blue, and brown pigments specifically designed for it. I even managed to get a pigment that will make the resin glow in the dark- perfect for a 40K terrain piece of a toxic waste pool! Cork for basing, stainless wire I'll use to model radio aerials on my Flames of War tanks, rare earth magnets, and mild steel sheeting for my Defiler are just a few of the things I picked up today.
