Kill Team: Final Mission Recap

And so last Friday saw the final games of the Kill Team Campaign. The last mission had three objectives, assassinate the Tech Priest Dr Hix before he escaped the base, capture the Bio Priest Dr Luther and prevent a group of missiles from being fired from the base. They had an engineer with them to stop the missile countdown and also had to deal with the IG guards on the base. Four teams were there to play, Azlan – Mad Donna, Faizal – Space Wolves, Subhan - Demons and Shukor - Black Templers.

First up was the Space Wolves, who had recovered from the bad luck they had last week and charged into the base. They were we aware of what Dr Luther could do, so they made sure that he was a priority and took him down the first chance they had. They also stopped the missile countdown successfully. But unfortunately they weren't quick enough to stop Dr Hix jumping in a transport and getting away. Two objectives done and one failed.

Next Mad Donna took up the roll of attacked. Learning from the strategy that the Space Wolves took, she sent a large squad with the engineer to stop the missile countdown and with some many body guards he had no problem stopping the missiles. After Mad Donna’s girls had taken Dr Luther down, Mad Donna herself personally wanted to deal with Dr Hix. Unfortunately she got a plasma pistol in the face for her troubles and Dr Hix escaped. Two objectives done and one failed.

Meanwhile over on the other table the Demons were just starting their attack. This looked like it was going to be a quick game with so many demons running around. First they wrecked the vehicles so that Dr Hix couldn't use the vehicles to escape. Then chased him around the board until they cornered him and cut him down. Then they took out Dr Luther. Finally they stopped the missile countdown – but the poor engineer must have been terrified being surrounded by all the Demons. All three objectives complete and full points!

And last to go was the brave Black Templers. The Templers had a small team of men, so they were going to find it difficult to take on all three objectives. They concentrated their effort on Dr Hix first and escorting the engineer to the missiles. They were well aware of how devastating Dr Luther could be, but they focused on Dr Hix first. Unfortunately for them he made it to a vehicle and although they fired everything they could at him they just had no luck hitting him and he escaped. So, they took their frustration out on Dr Luther and beat him to a pulp! They also managed to stop the missiles from being launched. Two objectives and one failed.

So here is the final scores.

Subhan 123pts
Faizal 75pts
Shukor 45pts
Hass 40pts
Azlan 30pts
Nahri 20pts
Jeff 15pts

Congratulations to Subhan who played all 4 weeks and all 5 missions.

Kill Team Campaign: Week 3 Recap

What a night!! Friday must have been the best kill team game so far.

There was three simple objectives, number 1) kill or capture the second Witch 2) kill the Lurker in the Dark and 3) kill the opposing team leader. Simple right!

The players were Shukor with his Black Templars, Faizal with his Space Wolves, and Subhan playing the Witch and a character called Dr Luther.

Now before I proceed I should let you know that the second Witch turned out to be a Dreadnaught with the tortured soul of a Long Fang trapped inside, armed with two Hurricane bolters and because he was a Long Fang, the ability to Split Fire with those bolters…nasty. And Dr Darious Luther a bio chemist that has been working with Dr Hix on some crazy military experiments, and Dr Luther had already been experimenting on his own body (he could move 8 inches!!). All Subhan needed to do with Dr Luther was keep him out of trouble… basically run and hide – simply right? Shukor did have one extra mission, because he missed mission 3, so he could attempt to rescue the prisoner from game 3.

So, the Space Wolves went first, splitting into two teams with the bulk going for the Dreadnaught and Faizal Stormwolf and his buddy hunting down Dr Luther. Shukor went second and decided that it would be best to rescue his team mate first. The Space Wolves team confidently armed with their Dreadnaught killing equipment - a meltgun and power fist - tactically crept up on the Dreadnaught, at one point even using an injured Space Wolf with a head injury from the last game called Harkon as a human shield. The dreadnaught did a lot of shuffling around before unleashing a hail of fire, eventually cutting down the marine with the meltagun. One threat down. But the brave marines jumped into close combat with the Dreadnaught, only to have the marine with the powerfist stomped into the ground!!! Two threats down - Disaster!! All looked lost for the Space Wolves, leaving just Harkon the Human Shield and Frode to fight the Dreadnaught with Krak Grenades.

Meanwhile the Black Templars swiftly moved up to the jail and with no opposition released the prisoner. Then they started looking for some trouble! The Wolves were panicking over by the Dreadnaught, so the Templers decided to go and find Dr Luther. He can’t have gone far.

Dr Luther was doing what he was supposed to do, hiding. But he was also caught between the 2 man wolves pack and the large Templers squad. The Wolves tried to melta and their way through the walls to get to him (but missed!) then tried throwing grenades at Dr Luther…. (but missed again). What was happening to the wolves!!

Taking the opportunity to get away from the Wolves, Dr. Luther leapt at the nearest Black Templer skewering the marine before he even had that chance to react. Stormwolf and his buddy decided to stand back a bit and watch what happens next…. Only to have two Black Templars rush over looking for a fight. In the next couple of minutes his buddy was taken down and the Templar’s lost two men, one of them their leader. As for Dr Luther, there was a Black Templar with a heavy bolter standing right in his path, surely he would not survive this.  But he did and promptly jumped on the Templar and took him down….. What was going on, he was supposed to be hiding. Then found a third Templar whom he also took down. This guy is supposed to be hiding!

Meanwhile Harkon the human shield and his brother Frode were dancing around the Dreadnaught trying to take it down with Krak grenades and to everyone’s surprise they did. They look a little bored until they saw Dr Luther coming over to investigate what had happened to the Dreadnaught. He was promptly cut down by Harkon the human shield and Frode. Mission accomplished. The Head Injured, human shield was the Hero of the day!!

Back over the other side of the table, Faizal Stormwolf crept around the corner and saw a trail of dead Templars, slowly he crept past each one until he reached the corner and came face to face with the two remaining Templars. They must have thought that he was responsible and regardless of how he surged his shoulders and said “not me” they still beat him up.

It has to have been one of the best games in quite some time – so many double 1s were rolled it was ridiculous, and Faizal even rolled on the floor at one point. Shukor was of course his calm self and Subhan, clearly does not like the idea of hiding….. Great game guys and thanks.

Kill Team Recap: The First Witch and RSVP Thread

The 'Three Witches' Kill Teams campaign reached a fevered pitch last Friday as the teams attempted a daring prison break to free their comrades and put a stop to the heretic Tech-Priest's evil plans. There were two battle fields set up, a dark drainage terrain table and a forest table. And there were two objectives – rescue the prisoner and investigate the laboratory.

The first game was scrapped out in the drains as Azlan's band of cutthroat gangers led by 'Mad-Donna' herself, sneaked through the foul smelling sewers. But what started out as a sneak attack ended as a total bloodbath as her team clashed with the IG defenders. Although Ma-Donna did manage get her team mate out of the cage, they never made it out of the drains, running out of time. To make matters worse, the whole team got shot to bits…. Crushing…. but I heard that Mad-Donna had fun and looked good!

Next up was Jeff. After watching Azlan’s brave attempt, Jeff took a more strategic approach with the marines running through the tunnels in organised move and fire style tactics. In true tactical form the highly organised team swiftly reached the jail, released their prisoner and managed to make it to the extraction point. Success…in exceedingly well thought-out marine fashion.

Meanwhile back in the drains, Hassanal started his courageous attempt to break the prisoner out. And things looked like they were going well, with lots of tactical manoeuvres and confident in the safety of his power armour. In fact he was so confident he was tempted to peek into the base’s lab and discovered….. the First Witch!! It turns out that the first witch was in fact a mad crazed Dreadnaught!! Trying not to panic too much…. He run! Needless to say the Dreadnaught followed him cutting down Space Marines and IG Guards alike in a uncontrolled rampage. He did manage to get the prisoner out of the jail and the rest of the game turned into some crazed 80s tv show with him running and be pursued by the enraged Dreadnaught.

Faizal’s Space Wolf team turned up on at forest world base and immediately got stuck in to the IG guard defenders. It looked like their tactics were to just power their way through the IG guards, very space wolf style, and it looked like it was going to work. However like the game with Mad-Donna, slowly but surely the IG guards grinded the brave space wolves down. Then suddenly one of the brave wolves ripped a man size hole in the wall with his powerfist and reached the prison. Tearing the door off with its hinges he released his Fenris brother and they smashed their way out of there. The result…the same as poor Mad Donna, dead bodies left on the battle field and only two survivors.

And so on to the last game of the evening, Subhan’s intrepid assault by his demons. Initially it looked like he was going to abandon the imprisoned bloodletter and go straight for the Dreadnaught. However, suddenly he threw his curve ball and realizing that he couldn’t do anything against the Dreadnaught leapt heroically (or should that be demonically) to the rescue of his team mates. What followed was a game of cat and mouse (or Bloodletter and Dreadnaught?) as they chased each other around the drains, however in the end what remained of his team and prisoner escaped.

Scores so far

Shukor 10pts

Azlan 10pts

Jeff 15pts

Faizal 15pts

Nahri 20pts

Case Yellow Turn 4 Recap and RSVP

Taking advantage of the momentum provided last turn by Khairul's Luftlandesturm victory, the Germans continued to press the assault. Azlan's 5-Panzerdivision engaged Mark's British Infantry Company, while Iqbal's Leichte Pioneerkompanie battled with Chang's French Infantry Company. If you haven't been paying attention, last week's mission was Dust Up.

As mentioned earlier, Azlan's armored thrust was met by Mark's British Infantry Company. It was a hard fought fight for the Germans, with Mark's artillery relentlessly pounding Azlan's tanks as they tried to advance. After a failed headlong charge in the first turn, Hauptmann Azlan was brutally reminded of the firepower possessed by the Brits. Somehow, the failed attempt forced the Hauptmann to showcase his excellent generalship by concentrating fire on the infantry squads hidden in the woods, eliminating them one at a time and at the same time slowly advancing from the flanks. By the time the Brits realised what the opponent was up to, it was already too late. Suffice to say, German Victory!

The Brits fending off the German attack.
Meanwhile, in the outskirts of a remote town, another battle took place. Although it was a relatively small engagement (1250 points), that does not mean that it was less exciting as compared to others. My Leichte Pioneerkompanie threw wave upon wave of bodies forward only to be met by stiff defense of Chang's French Infantry. In this battle, the Germans lacked air superiority as the remote dense forest prohibited the airplanes from bombing enemies at will (a.k.a no fives on the airplane dice rolls). The Panzer IB squad led by the company commander was the hero of the day, as it mowed down countless squads of infantry with its Twin MG. Luck was probably on their side too as they managed to dodge numerous shots from the French Somua tanks. The Panzer IB heroic actions allowed one of the Pioneer Squads to dash for the objective. German Victory!

Mighty Panzer I and their Pioneer escorts.
It was two solid turns of consecutive victory for the Germans. The mission for Turn 5 will be Free For All, and this will be the most important turn for both sides should they wish to secure campaign victory.

RSVP if you're ready for combat.
RSVP if you thirst for battle.
RSVP if you wanna taste victory.
And do RSVP too if you're just planning to gain some Denari.

See you tomorrow!

Iqbal

Hobby Night 21/09/12 Recap

Turn 3 of Operation: Case Yellow...

Due to some very weird circumstances, only one engagement occurred in Turn 3. It was between Mark's British infantry against Khairul's German airborne pioneers. The other captains from both sides were probably either taking some much needed R&R or were busy planning their attack plans.

Suffering from a similar fate that had befallen Shukur's French Tank Company, this time it was Mark's Brits  that fell victim to death from the skies. The gliders appeared out of nowhere, and contested the objective even before the first turn began. This sudden strike put them on the back foot from the beginning, and the Germans' sheer ferocity made it even worse. The heroic sacrifice by the British Company Commander was not enough and the Brits were forced to retreat even before their reinforcements arrived. German Victory!

German Victory!
That single victory was enough to give the week's win to the Axis. Turn 4 should heat up as the Germans now have a chance to edge a slight victory result for the campaign. Next turn will see the commanders playing the Dust Up mission.

Rare attendeees such as Joe Soon, Faizal 'Paxter' and Doc Selvam were among the 15 wargamers that attended last Hobby Night. Amazingly, 4 different game types were played that night; Flames of War, Warmachine/Hordes,Warhammer40K and Spartacus. We might be wrong, but there's a very high probability that our club owns the only copy of this fantastic boardgame in whole of Asia. If you've watched the Spartacus series and enjoyed the "blood" scenes then you must give this game a try! It's simply awesome!

We'd also like to remind you that registration for the Iron Painter has started. Get your Magacon II ticket and inform us of your ticket number. That is all you need to do, it's as simple as that. Come and join us!

RSVP and Case Yellow Turn 2 Recap

HOLD THE LINES!!

After a rough turn one for the German invaders, they redoubled their efforts to break throught the French lines last week. Three more games were played in Turn 2, and the mission was 'Hold The Line'.

While making their way to engage the enemy, Shukur's French Tank Company was caught off-guard by a sudden attack from Khairul's Luftlandesturm Kompanie. It was a quick and brutal affair, one that embodied the principle of Blitzkrieg warfare. German Victory!

Shukur's French Tank Company
Khairul's Luftlandesturm Kompanie

Upon hearing their colleagues were ambushed, Nick's French Tank Company took caution of their advance. That decision was critical as it allowed them to maneuver from an ambush set by Azlan's Leichte Panzerkompanie. The ambush was very well set-up and it turned into a very tightly contested battle. After a long hard fight, the French managed to gain ground and pushed the Germans back. French Victory!

Azlan's Leichte Panzerkompanie

On the Maginot Line itself, Arzmi's French Infantry were met with stubborn resistance by Iqbal's Leichte Pioneerkompanie. Despite the French's anti-air superiority against the Germans' Stuka, thus avoiding themselves from aerial bombardment, the 88s foiled every French advancements. It was a very long and gruelling battle (>10 turns) and turned into a war of attrition. Time had to be called as the battle has spoilt over into the wee hours of Saturday. Stalemate!

With the battle remained even after Turn 2, will Turn 3 proved to be the turning point? Will the French put their pride aside and call for help from their fellow Allies, or will the Germans finally able to breakthrough into France? Stay tune for next week.

On a similar note, registrations for Legio Malaysia's 2nd Iron Painter has been opened. All you need to do is (1) contact us on Hobby Night or via email and (2) give us your MaGaCon ticket number (once you've purchased your ticket, of course). Yes, you've read that right; there are no further additional costs required other than the ticket itself. The reigning champion has clearly declared his intentions to defend the title. So, are you man enough for the challenge? Sign up now!

Ave Legio!

Iqbal

Hey guys a quick post-script for Case Yellow players! Above is the campaign tree we are using for Case Yellow scenarios. German players should note that tonight is essential for them if they want to have any chance for victory. If you lose the campaign turn tonight, the best you can hope for is a draw!

Good luck to everyone tonight, and have fun!! The mission for the night is 'Pincer'...

Hobby Night 22/06/12

Last Hobby Night was originally slotted for Turn 6 of the Firestorm: Bagration campaign. Since the campaign ended victoriously for the Germans on Turn 5, the campaign organizers had something else in mind, which will revolutionize the standard of Legio Malaysia's future campaigns. Behold!

Picture Courtesy of Shukur @ Wolfen Lair
The medal above were received by most of the Bagration campaign participants. The medal color, the star, and the stripe; each has its own meaning. Of course, by simply participating in one or two games during campaign will not suffice as there are certain minimum requirements to receive this glorious medal. This will be the new standard to be used by us in our future campaigns. Pictured below are the first recipients of these glorious medals. There were four other wargamers (Azlan, Chang, Alvin, Syamael) that had met the requirements to receive these medals too, but they weren't able to attend last Hobby Night. To those guys mentioned above, please come next week to receive your honours.

L (Russians) to R (Germans): Pura, Shukur, Jeff, Khairul, Iqbal, Nahri, Tan
Last Hobby Night also kickstarted the Tank Aces mini campaign, and it will be managed by both Nahri and Iqbal. It's a crossover between skirmish games and role-playing games, and best of all, only tanks are allowed.

For this very first installment, we're adhering strictly to the rules as defined in the all-new Blood, Guts & Glory book. So, here are some campaign features:

1. Only Late War American and German lists are allowed (yes, any list from the Late War books)
2. Only tanks and anti-tank vehicles are allowed (it's Tank Aces, duh)
3. Create a cool name for your Ace!
4. Turn 1 will be a max of 500 points, followed by 750pts for Turn 2, and 900pts for Turn 3 (yes, it's somewhat similar to an escalation league)
5. Each game consists of 6-9 turns, which is somewhere between 20-50 minutes per game.
6. For each tank your Ace destroys, he'll get an upgrade skill. The more tanks he destroy, the more skillful he'll be!
7. An easy setting for new players to learn this game (we have some spare tanks to lend, but do treat them with respect, ok).
8. There's only one mission: destroy your opponents' tanks. (Survival of the Fittest!)
9. There are no limits on how many games you're allowed to play per turn. Just make sure you don't play the same opponent during the same turn.

Turn 1 has begun last week, and it'll be going on for two weeks. These are some snapshots of what has transpired during Turn 1.

Interested? Do join us on the next Hobby Night, we'll guide you on how to join this simple mini-campaign. Although, it'd be better if you download the Tank Aces record sheet beforehand.

Till then, Ave Legio!

A bridge too far

Legio's Flames of War, Operation Market Garden campaign will be continuing with its penultimate week this Friday.

The combatants who have bravely fought for the past 3 weeks include :

Allies
1. Lieutenant General Jeff Deathkorp. Armored rifle company, 2nd Armored Division (Allied overall commander)
2. Capt Tan. 101st Airborne Division 501st PIR
3. Capt Khairul. 101st Airborne Division 506th PIR
4. Lt. Yip. 3rd Armored Division (cameo apperance hehe)

Axis
1. Generalfeldmarschall Alvin Khaw. Schwere SS Panzerkompanie (Axis overall commander)
2. Hauptmann Pura. 6. Fallshirmjagerregiment
3. Hauptmann Shukor. 901 Panzergrenadierkompanie
4. Leutnant Iqbal. 130 Panzerregiment

After 3 weeks of hard fighting the Allies are slowly advancing northwards to capture the main objectives; Nijmegen and Arhnem bridges. These 2 bridges costs 50 and 60 points respectively and will ultimately decide who comes out victorious in this campaign.

The victory points tally so far stands at:
Allies : 64 VP
Axis : 262 VP

At this point, the bridges do look too far.... but the Allies still have 2 weeks to snatch a heroic victory from certain defeat. Bold and aggressive attacks must be made this week!! And you can bet the Axis will not make it easy for them to get to those 2 bridges. Expect to see a konistiger making an appearance soon!!

The fight continues this Friday Hobby Night!!!

RSVP if you dare...

Super hobby night!!!

First of, apologies for the below standard quality pic. My Canon S95 camera is currently doing a sojourn in beautiful Bali so was using the Mrs' camera :)

Secondly, can't share too much about what happened during last night's Ghemehaal Annihilation week 3 campaign. We'll all just have to wait for Jeff to finish up the video. You just know that it'll be better than the last one.
(yes, i have to wait like everyone else too. No special previews for me....sigh)

But i just had to share what a great time i had. Am sure it was the same for all those who came to share in the experience. Hurrahs and high 5s and moans and groans were loud and aplenty last night :) !!!!

Only fair that we thank all those who came and made it special.
1. Syameal
2. Alvin
3. Cookie Yip
4. Redeye
5. Iqbal
6. Limp aka Goh
7. Chong Teng
8. Chong Teng's lovely friend/partner....who he conveniently forgot to introduce to everyone. I don't blame him.
9. Dann
10. Azlan
11. Jeff
12. Me, Khairul.
hmmm...did i forget anyone?

Tables were full of battles, Limp was at the hobby table, Chong (hopefully) was deciding which army to collect :). It was great fun.

I must say that using the Fow Firestorm Bagration campaign system is a truly immersing experience. The start to finish process of each week's battle really got everyone involved in the campaign setting. The picture above shows how intense and critical it is during end phase movements.

Very big shout out to Jeff for organizing and moderating the campaign. This is serious fun 40k campaign at it's best. Well done dude!!!

See you next week gentlemen.

Light will shine on Ghemehaal.
