RSVP Thread- Kill Teams and Birthday Bash Info

Legio Malaysia Birthday Bash

Believe it or not it's that time of the year again. Saturday, May 18th we will be holding Legio Malaysia's FIFTH Birthday Bash! Woo Hoo!!

In general to the overall happiness, delirium, and capering about, there are two main events on the offer for the Birthday Bash- Kindred IV and Golden Kris.

Kindred IV

And yeah, believe it or not this year will mark the 4th year in a row that we've run the Kindred event. Speaking for Arzmi and myself, never in a million years did we ever foresee this. And speaking for Arzmi and myself, we owe it all to you hensem guys who have been supporting us since K1 by taking part. Thank you so much everyone!

And as a sign of appreciation from both of us for your continuous support we've managed to plead and beg and grovel  our t-shirt supplier to still accept our orders even though we're running out of time to print them.
So if you still want that free limited edition K4 t-shirt please grab your partners and  register before April 12th.
This will be one installment of Kinderd you will not want to miss.
(Khairul Effendy)

Golden Kris V

Our May 18th Birthday Bash will feature the fifth (!) iteration of our yearly 'Golden Kris' painting contest. To mark the occasion appropriately, Legio Malaysia commissioned local sculptor Jarold Sng to sculpt our very own Golden Kris Statuette. This statue, pictured in the Golden Kris banner at the top of the page, will be cast and prepared in Gold, Silver, and Bronze schemes for all Golden Kris categories. This means there will be TWELVE of these fantastic statuettes available to win, making this year's contest a 'can't miss' on every serious painter's calendar. This year will feature the following categories:

SINGLE MODEL

Entries may include any single 25-35mm scale model mounted on a base no larger than 40mm round/square. Cavalry/bike models are also entered into this category. Smaller scale entries, such as for games like Flames of War or Dropzone Commander, may also be entered in this category. For these, one stand of infantry (typically two to five models) or one vehicle may be entered.

LARGE MODEL

Entries may include any single 25-35mm scale model normally mounted on a base larger than 40mm round/square or unbased like a vehicle.

UNIT

Entries must consist of a 25-35mm scale game legal unit of at least five models and no more than twenty. Smaller scale entries, for games such as Flames of War or Dropzone Commander, may be entered into this category. The five model/stand minimum rule applies here as well.

SPECIAL CATEGORY: DUEL

This year's 'Wild Card' category is 'Duel'. Entries need to show two 25-35mm scale models in combat with each other, mounted on a base no larger than 5" x 5". This is a diorama, and as such game legal casing for the models is NOT required.

OVERALL CONTEST RULES SUMMARY

All entries must be 100% built and painted by the person entering the model. Entrants must enter their own models and be physically present at the awards ceremony to claim their prize(s). If an entrant is not present at that time, the next highest scored model will take the prize in question. The awards ceremony will take place immediately after awards are given out for the Kindred IV 40K Legio Hobby Tournament.

Any display bases must be reasonably sized to allow room for all entrants, preferably painted/modeled to match the models being displayed on them. Motorized/lighted/gimmicky display bases are not permitted. If you have any questions about your base you may contact Legio Malaysia directly via email, through our Facebook page, or in person at any of our Hobby Nights.

KILL TEAMS RECAP- MORE PLAYTESTING FRIDAY NIGHT!

Kill zone in the factory and snipers in the rose bushes. Recap by Mark Smith

This week we had tables set up with two very different themes – one a mechanical factory floor and the other a tranquil, relaxing, sweet smelling garden scene. A serene paradise that only the Eldar could truly appreciate....that was until it was ruined by the crushing boots of power armour trampling all over the flowers!!

The attackers had two objectives this week; one was to upload a computer virus on computer terminals and to assassinate an Alien Spy hiding among the defenders team.

In the factory the first fight was between the Blood Angels and the Dark Angels. The Dark Angels bravely prepared to valiantly protect the Alien Spy, sheltering behind a stack of crates, even prepared to use their own bodies as shields to protect the important alien... who got blasted away by rapid fire!! Then they had to deal with swift moving Blood Angels outflanking on the left side. A win for the Blood Angels.

The Death Korps or Krieg were up next. Led by the confident and charismatic Lieutenant Moller the Korp’s job was to protect the Alien against the Dark Angels. They boldly deployed with the Alien protected by a combination of crates and bodies. This time the Dark Angels stood back and mercifully poured plasma bursts onto the ill-fated Death Korps, with one of the blasts drifting on to the poor Alien. Instantly he was fried in plasma. Suddenly a tightly huddled group of six marines made a break for a computer terminal on the right flank, only to be surprised by a single, flamer armed, defender stepping around the corner. The defender must have thought it was his lucky day, hitting all six marines.... and injuring none!!! It wasn’t his lucky day, all six marines ganged up on the doomed Death Korp. The centre of the table had become a cruel kill zone.

Meanwhile, over in the garden the Eldar were mad about their afternoon picnic on the grass being disturbed, first by Black Templers and then by Blood Angels. Rangers armed with sniper rifles showed the Black Templers the true meaning of accurate fire from well hidden vantage points. They also quickly moved their Alien Spy out of the danger zone and successful protected a computer terminal, while cutting down the ill-fated Templers.

However, they hardly had time to rest before they realised that a team of Blood Angels were in the same garden. The Angels had their own Alien spy, which the Eldar endeavoured to execute, but the Angels and the spy quickly took up cover behind some walls and away from the sneaky snipers. The Eldar Fire Dragon unleashed retribution on the wall, creating a hole big enough to pass through, however before he could take advantage of this he was vicious jumped by a hooligan Blood Angel. The lengthy fight was even joined by a nimble sandwich filled Harlequin.... who was promptly beaten by the Blood Angel. A protected Alien Spy, a secure computer and a second win for the Angels!

This Friday the mission has a music connection....Pink Floyd and the Doors. Come and join !!

RSVP here for tomorrow's Hobby Night. Take care folks.

Legio Malaysia Club Secretary

It gives us great pleasure to announce that Iqbal has been appointed to be the first ever Club Secretary. With the current renaissance of Legio activities and an ever increasing number of weekly attendance, we felt it necessary to have someone chronicle our glorious journey.

As a past Best Librarian award winner for K1, Iqbal is a perfect candidate for this lofty post. As the Remembrancer, he will be responsible for putting deeds to paper of all future club activities. Already he is doing an excellent job recapping hobby night fun.

So raise your glasses high and let's honor him in the traditional Legio way.

Hail Iqbal the Remembrancer!!! Ave Legio!!!

Roadtrip : Gameforge Penang 25-26 February 2012

I've only ever gone on a hobby road trip once in my life. And it was a total blast!! Good friends, great event, overall awesome experience. That was way back in 2010 and the event was organised by those hensem people at Gameforge Penang.
Check out my report on the trip here :)
Gameforge 40K combat patrol

So when i heard that those cool guys up north will be organizing another event this year, you can bet your retirement fund savings that i'll be going!! This time it'll be a 500 points Warhammer Fantasy border patrol.
Gameforge cool cats with hensem Legio hunks (taken during 40k combat patrol event ;)
I'm also roping in my partners in pillage from the last roadtrip, Jeff Deathkorps the merciless and Iqbal treeplanter the relentlessness to join in the fun again :)

We've managed to convince renegade inquisitor Kravin to lend us his brand new bloodraven(is this what those corky inquisitions call their version of the stormraven...) so this time we'll be traveling in style. He also allowed us use of his personal driver-bot so the journey should be fun.
Those cannibals and forest druids we saw during the last trip are so gonna be meltad and blown to bits if i see any of them again!!!

2012 will be a defining year for Legio Malaysia. We've planned some very interesting projects...and the approach and concept will be different from what we've done in previous years.

One of which is to attend regional (outside klang valley) hobby events which involves miniatures. Give us ample notification, promise us a good time, ensure enough painted craters are available (coz my opponents always gets 6s when rolling for my vehicle damage), the stars are aligned nicely (meaning it doesn't clash with our events) and you can bet your bottom dollar that you'll see us there!!!

So join in the fun if you can. Just shoot us an email. For those who need Royal Immigration/Home Mininster approval, certified documents can be given upon request ;)

Ave Legio!!!

The Imperium Cometh, the Imperium Saweth (and got scaredeth), and the Imperium Conqueredeth

Saturday's Re-Taking of Ghemehaal was truly epic! Around 25,400 pts of the forces of the Imperium launched an audacious assault on 25,300 pts of the forces of Disorder defending Ghemehaal.

The forces of Disorder were led by Lord Aureus of the Sylla Cell's Nurgle Sect (Iqbal), at the head of a massive host of warriors and machines - World Eaters (Kadir), Chaos Daemons and Marines (Subhan), traitor Astartes (Jo), traitor Titan Legion and Dark Eldar (Rizal), and evil mek Orks (Carl). All told, there were some 13 super-heavies in the traitor and xenos host - 1 Warhound Titan, 1 Stompa, 1 Mek Stompa, 1 Shadowsword, 1 Banesword, 2 Baneblades, 2 Brass Scorpions, 3 Doomsday Devices, and a massive Warlord Titan measuring more than 3 feet high! And this is on top of special characters such as Kharn, Mefistos (Mephiston gone wild), Skarbrand, a bunch of Greater Daemons and Daemon Princes and an entire gang of Chaos Lords, as well as assorted tanks and armored vehicles.

Major Rammstein lowered his battle glasses, deciding that with the sheer size of the enemy host standing not 1,000 meters in front of him, the Mk.I human eyeball was good enough. Arrayed against the Imperium was an enemy host so vast, it dwarfs even the traitor Baneblades and xenos Stompas making ready to unleash destruction upon him. He had counted on facing Warhound Titans and such class of enemy war-machines, but he did not have an answer for the traitor Warlord Titan towering above the battlefield to the rear of the enemy lines. To either side of his Baneblade, the intrepid warriors of the Imperium stand ready, weapons primed, souls pure and engines humming. Lord Ragnar's Land Raider sat to the fore in the middle of the battle line in formation with 2 other Land Raiders, and behind a screen of Ravenwing bikes - perhaps a full third of that legendary Astartes elite company. To either side of the Ravenwing, Space Wolves Thunder Wolf cavalry paced the ground impatiently, their riders wielding massive blunt weapons, energy-fields crackling in the cold morning air. To the left of the line, Space Wolves, Raven Guard and Ravenwing vehicles stand ready. The center was dominated by Captain Scheel's Leman Russ Company, tanks formed up in a smart battle line behind the Ravenwing screen. The rear center clustered around field HQ were Space Wolves Predators, Long Fangs and Raven Guard scouts. The right of the line was rounded up by Korsaro Khan's White Scars. The Imperium forces deployed at the start of the battle was completed by Captain Tress' Shadowsword and the regimental Manticore detachment bringing up the deep rear.

The Emperor's loyal and faithful war host was led by Lord Ragnar Blackmane himself and a large host of Space Wolves (Syamael), joined by the Raven Guard (Synide), White Scars (Doc Selvam), Deathwing (Boon Kin), Ravenwing (me), Brandenburg Imperial Guard super-heavy, tank and mechanized infantry companies (me too) and even a detachment of fearsome Grey Knights (Arzmi). The Imperium was relatively infantry-heavy, ably supported by around a dozen Land Speeders, a dozen Leman Russ, 3 Baneblades, a Shadowsword and 5 Thunderbolts of the Imperial Navy. Luminaries other than Lord Ragnar present at the battle included such names as Belial, Sammael, Shrike, Bjorn and Korsaro.

With a word from the Master of the Ravenwing, a swarm of black-armored bikes and attack bikes leapt from their starting positions, scouting ahead at breakneck speed, heading straight towards their designated targets. As the fearless Astartes elite bikers neared their assigned positions, the enemy launched a choking blind barrage, cutting off the Dark Angels bikers from the rest of the army. Undeterred, and as one, the Ravenwing activated their teleport homers on cue, and momentarily the air around them shimmered and coalesced as the first wave of Deathwing terminators teleported onto the battlefield deep in enemy lines. The Ravenwing then gunned their engines in an all-out assault, moving in close to enemy super-heavies so as to unleash a point-blank melta attack. Within seconds, a traitor Baneblade broke into flames as volleys of melta fire reduced layers of reinforced armor into molten slag, causing multiple internal fires, utterly destroying the massive super-heavy tank. To the left of the burning Baneblade, an enemy Banesword suddenly erupted in a massive ball of fire as super-heated gases from multiple melta penetrations found fuel and ammo reserves. Three Ravenwing were caught in the blast, ceramite and flesh alike vaporising in the inferno. The explosion also destroyed two Killa Kans and a Deff Dredd lurking behind the tank, now reduced to a large crater in the ground. To the right of the Ravenwing strike, black armored bikes and attack bikes slipped below a traitor Warhound Titan's void shields and unleashed point-blank melta fire, crippling the massive Titan and damaging its drive systems. A follow up charge was ill-fated, as the great war machine simply trampled the loyalists underfoot. Space Wolves Thunder Wolf cavalry launched a charge of their own, locked in combat with an enemy Defiler.

The Imperium's opening turn was horribly effective, with the Ravenwing taking out 2 super-heavies, severely damaging another, and destroying other targets. The enemy Disruptor Beacon was also targeted and destroyed by Ravenwing Land Speeder Typhoons, opening the way for deep-strike assaults currently held in reserve. The other enemy Baneblade received the attention of concentrated lascannon fire, destroying its main weapon. The bulk of the IG tank force used the enemy blind barrage to its advantage, advancing forward and fanning out behind its cover.

As hordes of daemons started appearing in the middle of the battlefield, creating oceans of green and red warp entities, the forces of Disorder struck back with great vengeance, wiping out the entire Ravenwing bike assault force with firepower and assaults. Sadly for the forces of Disorder, Skarbrand himself did not survive manifestation into the physical world and was sent reeling back into the warp ("1" on mishap table). A vortex missile from the Warlord Titan narrowly missed Lord Ragnar's Land Raider, but vaporized 2 other Land Raiders filled with Space Wolves and White Scars terminators. Firepower from the Titan also destroyed a Leman Russ and several Raven Guard and Space Wolves marines. A Brass Scorpion came in from reserve and assaulted a White Scars bike squad, tearing apart the hapless Astartes. Another Brass Scorpion flank marched around the lines and struck near the Imperial field HQ, shooting up Long Fangs and together with a Bloodthirster, charged and destroyed a Space Wolves Predator. The Dooms Day Device in the center-right suffered a meltdown and erupted in a fearsome apocalyptic explosion, killing many Deathwing, destroying a Leman Russ and a Rhino and severely damaging a Brass Scorpion. All along the Imperium's weaker left flank, Land Speeders were being shot up and blown up by the enemy.

Major Rammstein involuntarily ducked his head as a gaggle of Imperial Navy Thunderbolts streaked overhead at treetop height. Upon Lord Ragnar's orders, the precision strike struck home, as wave after wave of Hellstrike missiles and concentrated volleys of massed autocannon and lascannon fire ripped open the Ork Stompa's gigantic armor plating, chewing away at the twisted metal like so much confetti until the massive war machine burst into flames. To the right, Korsaro and his band charged forwards, his vortex grenade scattering off enemy terminators, finally landing onto the damaged Warhound Titan, tearing up its innards and destroying it utterly. A lone White Scars attack bike opened fire with its multimelta and yet another great explosion tore through the battlefield as a Brass Scorpion erupted. Back at field HQ, reinforcing Grey Knights had severely damaged the other Brass Scorpion when the great Bjorn delivered a mighty blow, creating a huge explosion which took some Grey Knights in the blast.

Meanwhile, Astartes lascannon and assault cannon, and Brandenburger battle cannon, Manticore, Baneblade and Shadowsword fire swept across the enemy lines, causing untold destruction amongst the daemonic horde. With accuracy borne of faith in the Emperor, the Brandenburg Basilisk fired over the heads of White Scars marines into a pack of Khorne Berzerkers, obliterating the enemy. Amidst this great mayhem, a trio of upstart Brandenburg Sentinels outfanked deep into enemy lines, easily negotiating the enemy's defensive minefields and opened fire into the rear of an enemy Shadowsword, causing serious structural damage. A similar infiltration by Space Wolves scouts attempted to cause severe damage to the Warlord Titan with a massed meltabomb attack, but none of the deadly bombs hit their mark, and in return the courageous scouts were trampled by the Titan's giant legs, causing them to withdraw from the battle. In numerous close combats across the battlefield, forces of the Imperium performed their holy duty with courage and murderous efficiency. Grey Knights easily dispatched daemons and Greater Daemons alike, while Space Wolves cavalry were efficiently cutting up even more Chaos minions. A combined assault by the Deathwing and Korsaro's White Scars cut down enemy terminators - save for one wounded enemy leader, whom the Deathwing trussed up as prisoner for reasons unknown but only to them.

The ferocity of the Imperium's second turn attack took all by surprise (both the Imperium and their enemies) as swathes of daemons were cut down in murderous fire and assaults. Most importantly for the Imperium's morale, 4 Chaos and Ork super-heavies were destroyed in a single turn. The arrival of Master Belial and the rest of the Deathwing, as well deep-striking drop pods delivering Astartes dreadnoughts behind enemy lines, were also morale-boosting.

By the time the forces of Disorder started their second turn, 7 of their 13 super-heavies were destroyed, and a further 2 were heavily damaged. The Imperium had totally ignored the gigantic Warlord Titan (with 9 structure points, they just said, "forget it"), and the great war machine once again unleashed its fearsome firepower onto the Imperium’s warriors, destroying the Brandenburg tank ace Captain Hartmann’s Leman Russ Vanquisher, as well as nearby vehicles.

Waves of Khorne infantry – Berzerkers, Raptors and Terminators – flank marched into the left flank of the Imperium, slaying Master Sammael, destroying a Basilisk, and many a Land Speeder. Only Chapter Master Mavles Khan of the White Scars and his assault marines held on against the Chaos flanking onslaught. The next wave of daemons – foul Plaguebearers – appeared in the center of the battlefield, along with other Greater Daemons and Daemon Princes, as well as the feared Fateweaver. The Ork Mek Stompa, belching smoke and bellowing xenos obscenities through oversized loudspeakers, projected its lifta beam and flung a Space Wolves Land Raider right across the battlefield, narrowly missing some Thunder Wolf cavalry. On the Imperium right, Kharn himself led a rabid headlong charge with a squad of Khorne Berzerkers, cutting down Deathwing terminators and White Scars bikes, including Korsaro. In the center, a traitor Stormraven roared onto the battlefield, disgorging its dreadnought cargo, which charged the nearest Deathwing terminator squad.

But the Chaos onslaught had clearly lost momentum, as the bulk of the Imperium’s firepower was still left intact.

Major Schaeffer’s Chimera thundered onto the battlefield, his Brandenburg mechanized infantry pouring in to reinforce the Imperium center. 1st, 4th and 5th squads forged ahead on the left to capture an enemy objective, while 2nd and 3rd squads sped ahead to secure the vital Imperial HQ objective. The mechanized infantry’s left flank was well covered by Devil Dog and Hellhound light tanks. Major Schaeffer watched in awe as Grey Knight Paladins rushed in and cut down Khorne terminators at will, while further still to the left, Space Wolves Storm Claws jetted in and made short work of enemy Raptors. Overhead, the roar of ramjets filled the sky as Navy Thunderbolts split up and began individual strafing runs, autocannon and lascannon fire chewing up the ground and daemons alike. From his sheltered firing position, a Vindicare Assassin’s shieldbreaker round broke the Fateweaver’s enchanted ward, opening the way for a hail of autocannon shells to impact directly into the daemon, sending him back to the Warp. One Thunderbolt deftly manouvered behind the traitor Stormraven and opened fire, but the traitor pilot was able to avoid the incoming fire with unnatural evasive action. Higher still, Astartes drop pods of the Raven Guard and Space Wolves screamed down directly onto designated objectives. As the Baneblade and Leman Russ companies focused battle cannon fire into the daemon horde, the ground shuddered with multiple high-ex impacts, spewing bits of daemon and earth into the air in a most horrible bombardment. This was followed up by a spirited charge led by Bjorn and Deathwing venerable dreadnoughts. On the far right, concentrated fire from Raven Guard marines, Leman Russ battle cannon and plasma cannon, as well as the Laser Destroyer cut down Kharn and his Khorne minions, even as the Deathwing made good ground amidst the enemy position and the surviving White Scars moved to secure an enchanted enemy objective. Major Schaeffer was about to signal a cry of triumph when a blinding flash, followed by a deafening roar, marked the demise of the Baneblade Pride of Brandenburg, Major Rammstein’s tank.

The Chaos Dooms Day Device had found its mark on the Baneblade company commander’s tank, utterly obliterating it in a great ball of flame and gas, the explosion also destroying Captain Scheel’s command Vanquisher. The forces of Disorder gave everything they had in their final turn to grab victory from the clutches of the Imperium. Recognizing that it’s down to grabbing objectives, they focused on doing just that. To the Imperium left, the Keeper of Secrets and lone Chaos Hound (two of the handful of survivors of the Imperium bombardment and charge) leapt forwards and charged the lead Chimera, blowing it up and killing most of its occupants. More importantly, they had managed to contest the objective the mechanized infantry were holding. To the far right, reinforcing Khorne Berzekers brushed off a Raven Guard charge and made good their advance to contest the objective there. A supporting charge by Chaos and Dark Eldar on Shrike’s squad failed however, with the Raven Guard Captain emerging triumphant. But the Chaos forces were really focused on denying the Imperium of the objective they held in the center. Repeated attempts to deep strike terminators to contest the objective were foiled either by the Imperium’s Disruptor Beacon or mishaps. Chaos finally called a precision strike on the defending Raven Guard marines. Volley after volley of murderous fire poured in the Raven Guard, but they still held on. That is, until the Warlord Titan opened fire with its fearsome volcano cannon, incinerating all in its blast. The Imperium’s back-up to hold that objective, a squad of Grey Hunters who had drop-pod in next to the Raven Guard, was unfortunately within striking distance of a Daemon Prince, whose magicks and charge made short work of the indomitable Sons of Fenris.

It all came down to Mefistos’ charge into the surviving Deathwing on the right, who were barely holding on to their Fallen special objective. The close combat was fierce, with the traitor sorcerer slaying 3 Deathwing, while also incurring 3 wounds himself. At the end however, the Deathwing were still holding onto their objective, which counted as a vital objective. Thanks to this amazing act of defiance, the Imperium won the day 4-2. The forces of Disorder held one vital objective which was right at the foot of the Warlord Titan and held by Dark Eldar, while the Imperium held one vital objective at their field HQ, plus the Deathwing’s Fallen, which counts as a vital objective only the Deathwing could claim or contest.

Face spattered in blood and gore, Lord Ragnar looked up from his handiwork as a long baying sound of war-horns marked the retreat of the enemy. Even with the severe punishment meted by his forces, the vile enemy still seemed to be able to disengage in good order, leaving behind a sea of dead and the husks of their destroyed war machines. Navy Thunderbolts harried the enemy along with their strafing runs, even as the surviving Imperium armor kept up their fire into the retreating enemy. He consulted his data slate and grunted in satisfaction. The Imperium triumphs! Ave Imperator!

I’ve taken part in many Apoc battles, but I must admit this has been the biggest and baddest so far. So, the final results for the Re-Taking of Ghemehaal (photos at http://spunkybass.multiply.com/photos/album/54/The_Re-Taking_of_Ghemehaal_-_25_June_2011_Birthday_Bash):

Victors!:          The Imperium – 4 victory points
Survivors!:       Forces of Disorder – 2 victory points
Best Painted Character:          Skarbrand (Subhan)
Most Freakin’ Impressive Army:        Deathwing (Boon Kin)
Most Valuable Unit (Imperium):        Deathwing squad (Boon Kin)
Most Valuable Unit (Disorder):          Warlord Titan (Rizal)
Killer of Giants:          me!

I don’t remember what the losses on each side were (maybe you guys can help remind me), but I lost my entire Ravenwing force, a single Baneblade, the Basilisk, a Chimera, 4 Leman Russ and 6 guardsmen. Other than that, I believe all the detachments were badly hurt – Deathwing, White Scars, Raven Guard and Space Wolves forces were all mauled. The forces of Disorder lost 7 super-heavies, with 2 more heavily damaged. From my point of view, the Daemons, Orks, traitor Astartes and World Eaters suffered the most, though I could be wrong.

It was absolutely awesome! Thanks guys for taking part so enthusiastically. It was my privilege to see many great models, conversions and scratchbuilts (e.g. Mek Stompa, Thunderbolts, Banesword, Warhound Titan, some excellent Dooms Day Devices and of course the Warlord Titan) and excellent hobby spirit. Let’s do this again! Soon!

Birthday Bash APOC!!!

That's right, the Legio Birthday Bash event this year to accompany the Golden Kris is a massive Apoc game! If you've been to or seen any of our previous Apoc games, you'll know it's something not to miss.

This Apoc game will go from 0900hrs to around 1700hrs or so. There will be a 12' x 6' Apoc table, and if the game is big enough, there'll be an additional side table from which you can lob missiles and shells into the main table if you so wish (and vice versa).

All you need to play in this game is at least 1 painted unit (squad, tank, super-heavy, monster, Rhino, etc). And the good news is, there is no limit to the number of models you want to bring - as long as it's painted and WYSIWYG - and preferably from the same army.

So download the event rules in the download section on the right-hand side of this page, have a good read, and we'll see you at the Apoc table!

Kindred II Champion tells it how it is

After finishing K2, i thought that it would be nice to have the Tournament Champion say a few words. Perhaps to bask in their glory and take pot shots at the other participants...just joking. So after convincing James that it was a Kindred tradition for champions to write something, he finally sent me his write up yesterday. All for us to share in their experience.
Aftermath K2
By Chapter Master James
Phew…after much intense crafting, painting and gaming, K2 is over and I came back with so much more than I expected. It was a great experience meeting and playing with old friends and meeting new faces and also being my first Legio Malaysia Tournament.
The Theme
First and foremost, me and Zaki decided that in order to have decent chance of winning any of the various awards we would have to cover all aspects of the Tournament concept. In this case, with the expendables and being an allied team, it gave plenty to feed the creative juices!
Space marines and Tyranids. Hmmm..definitely not your typical alliance, in addition to the fact I was wielding my Blood Angels Successor Chapter the Archangels. While gaming some old scenarios of Starcraft 2, a thought struck my head. In that legendary computer game, the Terrans were always trying to interfere with the Zerg, an insectoid race with more than eyebrow-raising similarities to Tyranids. Ultimately the Terrans managed to create a psionic device that could manipulate the thoughts of the Zerg. Eventually, an infamous infested Terran female destroyed the device and gained control of the Zerg swarms. Thus formed the cornerstone of our army theme: Mind Control and Infestation.
The Models
I’ve unashamedly always loved the characters and machines of the Starcraft Universe. Siege Tanks that humble Vindicators, lumbering Battlecruisers and plenty of heavily armoured and teched-up chicks to go around. Sadly, there weren’t many miniatures available since it was still a computer game so I decided I would have a laugh and model some characters from that universe. The expendables were the perfect excuse since they stood ‘apart’ from the rest of the army.
After much headscratching and money spent on miniatures outside of the 40K universe, I had my first Terran Marine prototypes. They do bear many similarities with 40K marines, with key differences in helmet gear and weapons. Zaki also came to my place to paint and brainstorm and finally we managed to include all the models we wanted to field in the expendables squads – both starcraft characters and Genestealer infested marines. One of our greatest joys were matching the two squads in painting scheme and style, we achieved this by teaching each other how to recreate each others army appearance. With Psi controller equipment modeled up, we were ready to go.
On the Table
As with any so-called ‘Uber List’ on the actual hobby table, Murphy’s Law always applies – Sh** Happens!!!
Zaki’s murderous Devourer gaunts scattered way off many times forcing him to shoot at not-so-prime targets and the Doom of Malantai somehow couldn’t get anyone to roll over 10 on 3D6! For my part, Mephiston got screwed up by Psychic Hoods(Interestingly against 2 other Mephistons) and my Attack Bike’s Multi-Melta was always shooting wide!
Lessons learnt here was to stick to more stable units the next time round. Devastators and Tervigons seem to float to mind… Anyhow we managed to pull off a draw and win of 3 rounds – not too shabby.
Pleasant Surprises
I honestly didn’t expect to take home so many awards from the event considering many of the competing armies were very well-painted and included many spectacular models. In our hearts though I think we knew that we had our trump card in the Army theme, from concept to models which was coherent with the fluff. Overall we learnt much from this event and thank the Organizers for their hard work and bestowing us the honour of Hobby Champions K2.

Kindred II : Heroes wrap up

All hail the Winners of Kindred II : Heroes !!!
What a glorious time we had at K2.
This year marks the second running of the Legio’s Kindred tourney franchise and I’m very happy to say that it was quite a success.
We had 28 brave souls who participated in the madness, mayhem and super fun that Kindred have been known for. From the start of the registration, to the end of the prize giving ceremony, smiles and laughter was aplenty!!!
When Arzmi and I discussed the concept of the first Kindred (K1) tourney, the first thing that we wanted to achieve was to ensure that everyone had fun participating in the event. We wanted Kindred to be a laid back, put your hair down, unserious and wacky tournament environment. We wanted beginners and veteran gamers to meet and play. We wanted hobbyist and powergamers to enjoy themselves.
We were very happy with the response we got from players who participated in K1 and decided that Kindred 2 (K2) just had to happen.
For K2 we wanted the event to be even more fun and wacky; if that was even possible…
That’s why for K2, we came up with a theme…hence the official name of Kindred II : Heroes. This time we wanted you to be the main character in the event!! And to help you in that endeavor we introduced ….jeng, jeng, jeng…..the Expendables.
I’m sure all of you had a blast conceptualizing and then making your Expendables a reality. We saw some really jaw dropping awesome Expendables at K2.
For those among you who were not too tied up with playing during K2, you might have noticed that the mission for K2 (and even K1) had a Bro theme to it. This was intentional and meant to add spice to the doubles event. How many of you actually Highed 5s your partner during the first mission J??
I would like to take this opportunity to thank a few individual without whom K2 could never have been a reality.
1. Mr. Jeff ‘Awesome Forgemaster’ Brooks
THE MAN at Battlefront Malaysia and also Legio Malaysia 1st Officer for all his assistance from planning to executing K2. Who would have thought that he would be our number crunching grot during the tourney…that’s how awesome the guy is. Thanks bro!!
2. Mr. Alvin ‘Hobby Forge Owner’ Khaw
For generously picking up the tab for the delicious (sebab free) pizza lunch.
3. My Bro, the Lord Inquisitor etc etc etc Arzmi
Thanks for organizing this event with me. We sure had fun didn’t we bro.
And finally, to each and every one of you who participated in K2!! We truly appreciate the effort that you took in assembling your forces and getting them all nicely painted for the event. 28 painted 750 + 5 Expendables on the display tables was truly a sight to behold.
Congratulations to all the winners especially Kindred II : Heroes Tournament Champion, James & Zaki. Their Blood Angels and Tryanids force was magnificient!! The fluff was captivating, their Expendables amazing and their models were very beautifully painted. It’s no wonder that they won multiple awards.
But in the end Everyone's a winner at K2 J
We hope you had fun and appreciate all comments.
Hope to see you next year at K3 : Reve……………………….

RSVP and some news...

OK folks, in addition to posting the usual Thursday RSVP thread, we've got some upcoming events we want to tell you all about. First, after a long hiatus, we're bringing back "The League"...

Friday, May 27th, will be the first day of Legio Malaysia's 40K League, Season 4. Rules will be posted soon, but for your planning it's a 4 week league with 1500 point fixed lists. If you've never played in a Legio 40K league before, check out the "Legio Downloads" section on the right and have a look at Season 3's rules. They will be similar. We'll also be handing out awards that night to the following Season 3 winners (assuming they are available to attend)

League Champion: Iskazri I.

Marksman's Honor: Khairul E.

Best Sportsman: Azlan R.

Best Appearance: Khairul E.

Now, it's been a LONG time since we wrapped up Seaason 3. Over a year, in fact. So, for Season 4, we thought it would be cool to finish up the league and awards ceremony a little quicker. SO, let's jump right in and chat about when we're going to do that, the Legio Birthday Bash!

The Legio Malaysia 2011 Birthday Bash will be held on Saturday, June 25th at Battlefront Miniatures. Full details/flyer are coming, but here's a teaser for what we have planned for the day:

Golden Kris 2011- Dann and Oliver have won the last two iterations of this. Are YOU next?

Season 4 40K League Championships- That's right, we're going to run the championship games during the birthday, and the winners will receive their awards along with the rest of the Birthday Bash event winners

The other event(s) going on for the Birthday Bash will be posted this weekend, so keep your eyes open for updates. In the meantime, RSVP here and let's get some hobby tomorrow!

Real Life Rears Its Ugly Head...

Howdy folks,

Unfortunately, I have some disappointing news to convey in this post. Due to production and overtime requirements here at the factory, I'm going to have to cancel tomorrow's Hobby Night, and postpone the Birthday Celebration until June 20th. Yes, I know, this is last minute, and I'm sure many of you will be as disappointed as I am. However, this is unavoidable.

Hosting Legio at the factory is a great thing. We have a good space with ample parking, well lit, and there's a good number of tables (that will soon be increasing!). But, when we have to work the occasional weekend to make toy soldiers, our primary duty at the factory must lie there. I hope everyone understands.

The good news is that the Flames of War hobby continues to do well despite the global economic struggles. This month we're having to make A LOT of toy soldiers to keep up with demand. :)

Hobby Night will resume on Friday, May 29th at the normal time.

Due to a factory refit, overtime, and SPORE 2009, the next best day to schedule our Birthday Celebration is Saturday, June 20th. All other details remain the same. Look at the bright side- you now have more time to work on your Golden Kris entry! :)

Thanks for everyone's understanding in this scheduling issue.

Cheers

Early Close at Hobby Night Tonight

Hey folks,

Hobby Night will end at about 11:30 this evening, so please plan your attendance and gaming accordingly. I'll be back first thing Saturday morning for the championships, and I need my beauty sleep! ;)

Legio Malaysia members are welcome to come to the factory Saturday morning and check out the League Championships, as well as play games or hobby models. This will last until the championships end, which should be around 3 pm.

Cheers guys

Now THIS is cool!

Wow, why didn't someone think of this sooner?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CEz_q3IoKhs&feature=player_embedded

This stuff looks awesome! Has anyone here purchased some from these guys? Custom made foam to fit popular case sizes? Nice!

I've added their site to the "Killer Links" section. They can make foam to transport a Forge World Titan- I think that makes them a killer link! ;)

Who Shall Win the Marksman's Honour?

Well folks, it'll be one of these league die-hards:

Faizal S.
Khairul A.
Shazli M.
Khairul E.
Nazrin M.
Iqbal
Arzmi D.
Johan R.
Tay J.

Now, as a couple of you have mentioned, there are an odd number of competitors. My oh my, what shall we do...?

Well, we're going to use a "bottom bye" system. Assuming everyone shows up, the player with the worst regular season record will get a bye in the first round. All byes will be worth a 15 pt win. In subsequent rounds, the player with the worst overall standing will get the bye. With so few players in this tournament, I'm guessing that the overall winner of this tournament is going to need to win all three games. This means that players in Rounds 2 and 3 who get the bye are unlikely to win the tournament- if things go normally. If there are a lot of ties, who knows? Despite the drawbacks, this system is a good one for tournaments that involve a relatively low number of players. Therefore, assuming everyone shows up on time Saturday, here are the Round 1 matchups...

Faizal S. vs Johan R.
Khairul A. vs Arzmi D.
Shazli M. vs Iqbal
Khairul E. vs Nazrin M.

BYE- Tay J.

Subsequent rounds shall be seeded according to our standard swiss tournament system- winners against winners, losers against losers. Scoring will be done just like the league, except no bonus point will be added for fully painted armies. All other bonuses/penalties apply to your scores. No Sportsmanship or Appearance will be taken in this tournament. Once we get your battle points from all three games, I'll add your league averages in Sportsmanship and Appearance from the regular season to get an Overall Score. This is the score that will win (or lose) you the Marksman's Honour.

Everyone needs to get to the factory by 0945 at the latest. If you are late, and we have an even numbers of players... let's just say your tournament experience may have ended before it started! :) Tay, this means you need to show up early in case we have a no show, and you actually end up playing in the first round. If not, I suggest bringing a book or some models to paint! That goes for the rest of you- bring something to entertain yourselves if you end up being one of the people that gets a bye.

So, that's about it. If anyone has any questions or concerns, by all means drop me a line and we'll see what can be done. Once we determine the Wild Card winner, I'll contact all 4 League Champion finalists to determine whether we're running the championships on the 4th or the 11th. I've already heard that some can't make the 4th, so hopefully all four of you can make the 11th. I have one other possible option that will work with league guidelines, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it, as they say.

Don't forget folks that there will be no Hobby Night tomorrow. Hobby Night will resume on April 3rd...

Legio News Flash

Hola folks!

We have a few juicy tidbits of news for you, so without further delay let's get on with it.

First, congratulations to the following three league players- they have officially placed in the top three positions in the Season 2 40K League, and have thus earned their spots in the League Championships on April 4th:

1st- Iskazri I.
2nd- Peter C.
3rd- Subhan

Well done! Now, the following players are officially invited to the Wild Card Tournament being held this Saturday, March 28th at 10:00 AM (registration at 9:45):

Faizal S. *
Khairul A.
Shazli M. *
Khairul E. *
Azlan R. *
Nazrin M. *
Iqbal *
Arzmi D. *
Johan R. *
Tay J. *
Chang F. *
Selvam S. *

These brave 12 souls will compete for the final spot in the League Championships as the Wild Card winner. Regardless of how well the Wild Card player does in the League Championships, he will earn the "Marksman's Honour" for his tournament triumph. Note that all names with an "*" have RSVPed their attendance. If you wish to play in the Wild Card Tournament you MUST RSVP BY WEDNESDAY, MARCH 25TH. Players who fail to RSVP by that time will NOT be eligible to participate.

Next, we have the results from our "Operation: Bagration" Flames of War Tournament that we ran on Saturday. 10 players competed for the top spot with some nice looking armies and a lot of friendly competition. Congrats to all who played, and here's the list of those honored with trophies:

Overall Champion: Nick C.
Best Sportsman: Jason S.
Best Painted: Azlan R.

And here's the complete stats!

Finally, Hobby Night this Friday has been cancelled. Hobby Night will resume on Friday, April 3rd at the usual times.

And that's about everything we have for this news update. Continue to keep a close eye on the Sporecon thread- we'll be posting event updates for your convenience there. The latest one is that the 40K tournament point value has been changed from 1500 to 1750 points, so factor that into your plans if you plan to attend.

League coming to a close, and a new range you haven't heard of...

Well Legionnaires, the Second Season of the Legio Malaysia Warhammer 40,000 league is coming to a close. Lots of games have been played, armies finished, and dice chucked to reach the end. We've also got some news for historical fans, but first let's review the league's current status:

Players have until the end of Hobby Night this Friday to complete their league matches. Only Syamael, Jeff, and Kadir have failed to reach six games up to this point. Get those games in!

According to Legio's records, Khairul A. and Arzmi have completed their minimum six games (or more), but do not have fully painted armies. You all have until the end of Hobby Night to show either Jeff or Azlan your completely painted armies. If you fail to do so, you will not be invited to participate in the Wild Card Tournament. Speaking of...

The Wild Card Tournament is being held at Battlefront Miniatures on Saturday, March 28th at 10:00 AM. This date has been set since we posted the league rules, so we will NOT be changing the date to another time. We apologize if this date doesn't work for you, but we have given everyone two months notice. If you have played at least six games and have a fully painted army (i.e. your stat line is green), please RSVP for the Wild Card Tournament by emailing Legio Malaysia or let us know at the upcoming Hobby Night. All players must RSVP no later than Wednesday, March 25th.

The League Championships will be held on Saturday, April 4th at 10:00 AM. If all four players are unable to make it on this date, we will reschedule for a week later. If all four players are unable to make that one, we will revert to the April 4th date. Anyone who fails to show up by 10:00 AM for the League Championships will automatically forfeit their match. We will determine League Championship seeding after the Wild Card Tournament. All invitees will be emailed and SMSed in an attempt to confirm attendance.

So, that's a wrap for Season 2. We invite comments concerning the scheduling and details of Season 2- feel free to email Legio Malaysia with your suggestions. The league will continue to evolve and hopefully grow. Congrats to all who have been able to participate thus far.

Now, on to a completely different genre- English Civil War!

Hot off the presses of Warlord Games comes a completely new range of miniatures for this very cool and interesting period. They are doing a full, multi part plastics range that looks very impressive, and it's all set to launch at the end of this month. If you're an historical miniatures fan, especially of the ECW, be sure to click on the image above and check out Warlord Games!
That's all for today, folks. Cheers!

Warmachine Plastics....?

Yes indeed, for those who haven't already seen, Privateer Press is set to release their first ever plastics release with a five model squad of Exemplar Bastions. The miniatures look fantastic, and I'm sure our small group of Legionnaire Warmachine enthusiasts are looking forward to seeing the sprues first hand.

For more information and a 360 degree view of the models, click on the Privateer Press link in our Killer Hobby Links section!

Now, one of these day I need to paint my Cryx! ;)
