Heads were lopped, limbs severed, guts sliced open, blood flowed like monsoon rain...until at the very end only Joe stood with an evil grin. A very big congratulation to The Chosen One. May 2013 bring you more victories. 

Joining Joe on the winners list are Faizal Sani, who grabbed the best painted award for his very nicely painted Space Wolves and Hassanal, who walked away with the Sportsmanship award.

The Chosen : Legio's 2012 Year End 40k Tournament

It's that time of the year again folks, we need to find out who's the baddest and the best 40k players around these here parts. The Chosen will follow Legio's Tournament format which means that painting and sportmanship scores will also be tabulated to crown our Tournament Champion.

This year it will be at 1500 points using the new 6th Edition Warhammer 40K rules.

The Chosen will be held on Saturday, December 15th 2012 at Battlefront Miniatures Malaysia.

Legio Golden Kris 2012 & Kindred 3 is this 14th Saturday

Yup, the day has finally arrived. So for those who are planning on entering both or either events, then you've got 5 days to finish painting those models ;)


The schedule for the day.




For Golden Kris;
You do not need to register beforehand. Just bring your models at 9 - 9.30 for registration.

For Kindred 3 participants;
1. Please please please come early and register by 9.30 so we can get the event started on time. We will start the tournament on time and those who register late, worse is even not being there at the start of Round 1, will be penalised with an automatic Total Annihilation score and full points will be given to their opponents. You cannot start the game alone if your Partner is late.
So do please help us and the other participants by coming on time :) Malaysia BOLEH!!!! 

2. Those who have not or have changed their list since sending me their initial list have until Wednesday 11th,0900H to email me their final list for verification. Those who are late will be banished to the dark regions of the warp to forever watch re-runs after re-runs of the Ultramarines movie and Mr.Bean series. (And points deducted).

3. You need to bring a copy of your list on tournament day to show to your opponents when requested. Failure to do this will also result in eternal re-runs of above said shows.

Golden Kris 2012 & Kindred 3 Re-scheduled

Due to unexpected production requirements at the Battlefront facility, these 2 events will have to be rescheduled to Saturday, 14th July 2012.

We regret all inconvenience caused and hope that everyone will understand that Legio Malaysia, as a gaming club,  has been very lucky in getting to use this space for past and future events at zero cost. Unfortunately, business requirement must take priority for the next 3 weeks.

Kindred 3 Registration

Just a heads up that the deadline for K3 registration before or on 30th April 2012 is up. These lucky kindreds will be getting their hands on a not so awesome K3 t-shirt each. The design has yet to be finalised but it could be the above boring pic...

Gameforge Penang : We came and we plundered and in the end we looted :)

As planned Iqbal, Jeff and yours truly drove up north for Gameforge's Island of Fire tournament.

 There was much fighting and killing and maiming and pillaging and arrows in the knees. But in the end there could only be one....

And that one was ...

All hail mighty Wood Elves Lord Iqbal the merciless!!! The undisputed Champion and new Ruler of the Island of Fire!!!
You have brought much honor to Legio Malaysia with your heroic deeds. Iqbal had a 4 wins and 1 loss(by victory points) record and was shooting with deadly accuracy with his fearless archers. Suffice to say, many were they who ended with arrows in their knees and bowed before his mighty force.
For his efforts he got a RM350 shop voucher which magically turned into 2 boxes of vindicators....go figure.

Congratulations ooo Mighty One!!!

Legio Malaysia also brought home the best painted honors with Khairul getting the most votes from the all the players.

Which was worth RM75 of shop voucher that also magically turned into a box of space marine drop pod...
Truly Gameforge Penang is a magical place. Visit the shop, bring your cash and more than likely it'll turn into boxes of hobby goodness too :)

The event was run well and i believe all the players had fun taking part. For us it was worth the journey up north.

The event ended around 5pm and we started our journey back to Shah Alam after a stop at BK to quench the hunger and thirst that comes after mighty battles.

We came and we took top honors as Tournament Champion and Best Painted :)

MaGaCon Mayhem Is Complete!

Wow, what a weekend!

We had 16 brave competitors come to the first ever Legio tournament held outside our hallowed halls. Despite the logistical complications and lack of chainmail-bikini clad women, we had a fantastic time. Kudos to Chang for organizing MaGaCon- that show was great and far more complex than anything I have ever personally done. It took a lot of planning and doing, and he got it done. Well done!

As for the tournament, you guys were great. No long faces, nice looking armies, and competitors from far and wide. It was great to see Quake and Chris again, as well as the Singapore crew back in force once again. We'll make it to your March tournament come hell or high water!!

40K Legio Tournament Announcement

It's that time of year again- the Legio Malaysia Annual 40K Tournament! Woo hoo!!

This year we're holding the tournament in conjunction with the MaGaCon Gamers Convention being held on December 17th and 18th at KDU College Damansara. The tournament will be held on Saturday the 17th, with Round 1 starting at 10:00 sharp.

This will be a 1750 point, 3 round tournament using the classic Swiss pairing system we've always done. All models must be folly rep and painted- for all the nitty gritty be sure to click on the big green banner above for the rules pack, or you can click here.

Confirmed registrations BEFORE November 26th will get you a free tshirt. There will be no additional cost to compete in the tournament- pay your MaGaCon entry fee and you're good to go. How cool is that?

Saturday, August 28th at the Cempaka Damansara Campus they'll hold a 1650 point tournament, sanctioned as part of their national ranking system. Who Shall Win the Marksman's Honour?

Well folks, it'll be one of these league die-hards:

Now, as a couple of you have mentioned, there are an odd number of competitors. My oh my, what shall we do...?

Well, we're going to use a "bottom bye" system. Assuming everyone shows up, the player with the worst regular season record will get a bye in the first round. All byes will be worth a 15 pt win. In subsequent rounds, the player with the worst overall standing will get the bye. With so few players in this tournament, I'm guessing that the overall winner of this tournament is going to need to win all three games. This means that players in Rounds 2 and 3 who get the bye are unlikely to win the tournament- if things go normally. If there are a lot of ties, who knows? Despite the drawbacks, this system is a good one for tournaments that involve a relatively low number of players. Therefore, assuming everyone shows up on time Saturday, here are the Round 1 matchups...

BYE- Tay J.

Subsequent rounds shall be seeded according to our standard swiss tournament system- winners against winners, losers against losers. Scoring will be done just like the league, except no bonus point will be added for fully painted armies. All other bonuses/penalties apply to your scores. No Sportsmanship or Appearance will be taken in this tournament. Once we get your battle points from all three games, I'll add your league averages in Sportsmanship and Appearance from the regular season to get an Overall Score. This is the score that will win (or lose) you the Marksman's Honour.

Everyone needs to get to the factory by 0945 at the latest. If you are late, and we have an even numbers of players... let's just say your tournament experience may have ended before it started! :) Tay, this means you need to show up early in case we have a no show, and you actually end up playing in the first round. If not, I suggest bringing a book or some models to paint! That goes for the rest of you- bring something to entertain yourselves if you end up being one of the people that gets a bye.

So, that's about it. If anyone has any questions or concerns, by all means drop me a line and we'll see what can be done. Once we determine the Wild Card winner, I'll contact all 4 League Champion finalists to determine whether we're running the championships on the 4th or the 11th. I've already heard that some can't make the 4th, so hopefully all four of you can make the 11th. I have one other possible option that will work with league guidelines, but we'll cross that bridge when we come to it, as they say.

Don't forget folks that there will be no Hobby Night tomorrow. Hobby Night will resume on April 3rd...

We have a few juicy tidbits of news for you, so without further delay let's get on with it.

First, congratulations to the following three league players- they have officially placed in the top three positions in the Season 2 40K League, and have thus earned their spots in the League Championships on April 4th:

Note that all names with an "*" have RSVPed their attendance. If you wish to play in the Wild Card Tournament you MUST RSVP BY WEDNESDAY, MARCH 25TH. Players who fail to RSVP by that time will NOT be eligible to participate.

Next, we have the results from our "Operation: Bagration" Flames of War Tournament that we ran on Saturday. 10 players competed for the top spot with some nice looking armies and a lot of friendly competition. Congrats to all who played, and here's the list of those honored with trophies:

Finally, Hobby Night this Friday has been cancelled. Hobby Night will resume on Friday, April 3rd at the usual times.

The latest one is that the 40K tournament point value has been changed from 1500 to 1750 points, so factor that into your plans if you plan to attend.

Legio News Update

Well folks, we have a few bits of news to get across to the membership, so let's get to it!

First, we want to make sure everyone remembers that there WILL be a full Legio club meeting this evening. We have a couple of issues we need to tackle, and we have some announcements for future event plans that should get even the most jaded hobbyist excited. If you're interested in helping us build a wargaming community together, we strongly urge you to attend tonight's meeting at 9 PM.

Next, our astropathic choir has just received a priority message from the next sub-sector- Singapore! The good folks at Paradigm Infinitum have officially announced the dates for the next SPORE convention. SPORE 2009 will take place on Saturday, June 6th and Sunday, June 7th, at the Singapore Polytechnic. Details are a bit scarce right now, but we do know there are some fantastic wargaming events planned.

On Saturday, they will be running a D-Day beach landing scenario for Flames of War. If you're an FoW fan, you should definitely pencil this into your hobby calendar. On Sunday they'll also have tables set aside for open Flames of War gaming. A whole weekend of WWII!

However, that's not all. On Saturday, there will be a Warhammer 40,000 tournament. We don't have any more details, like costs or points, but we will keep you all posted as we learn more.

On Sunday, they will also run a Warhammer tournament. Same deal- we don't have the full scoop on this yet, but once we get more news we'll pass it along.

Just like last year, Legio Malaysia will be sponsoring a Malaysian tournament team for both the 40K and WFB tournaments. There will be some prerequisites to join this team, but team members will enjoy some groovy tshirts and as yet-undetermined benefits. We'll briefly discuss this at tonight's meeting.

Finally, we want to remind everyone that we have a few spots left open for the Flames of War tournament on Saturday, March 21st. If you're interested, be sure to click on the banner at the top of the page and get registered!

World War II Comes To Legio Malaysia!

2009 promises to be a HUGE year for Legio Malaysia and Flames of War! We've planned not only a league and a Legio Tournament for FoW, but also our first-ever campaign with the impending release of Firestorm: Bagration. It's gonna be awesome!

Our first venture into war-torn WWII Europe will be our first season of Flames of War league action. You'll need to submit a 1500 pt, Late War list to join The League- we'll start accepting them on January 9th, and you can start playing games on January 16th. There is no fee to join the Season 1 Flames of War League, and games may be played anywhere, not just at Hobby Nights!

In addition, we're running the Flames of War "Firestorm: Bagration" campaign starting February 13th. More details will come very soon for what promises to be an awesome time.

Finally, we'd also like to bring your attention to the next Legio Tournament, which will be a 1500 point Flames of War Late War tournament to be held on Saturday, March 21st. Themed for the Eastern Front during Operation: Bagration, this tournament should be a great time for all comers. Again, full details and a rules packet will come very soon for this tournament.

We're thrilled to be able to support this outstanding game system for our membership and for other hobbyists in Malaysia. For those who haven't tried it, there hasn't been a better time to get involved!

Tournament FAQ 1

Hey folks,

We've started getting questions emailed in about the tournament, which only makes sense. However, rather than email individual replies, we are going to post these questions and answer them right on the Legio Malaysia site. That way, anyone else wondering about the same thing will already have the answer. Huzzah!

Must models be fully based?

Yes indeed, my friend, your entire army needs to be based. At a minimum, this consists of painting the base and glueing some kind of basing material on top of it. Note that if your entire army isn't based with a common appearance/theme, your Appearance score will not be as high as it can be. Many tutorials are available online to help with basing. Here's an example!

How would the Orbital Strike from the Daemonhunters/Witch Hunters Codex? Since I don't have to let my opponent know where the strike will fall, how should I record it?

I played a Daemonhunters army a while back, and I used a simple method for this that worked a treat. I created a 4x6 grid on a piece of paper that represented the table- I printed this out on my computer beforehand. Then, after terrain was set on the table, I quickly sketched out the terrain features on the paper, and indicated which table edge was mine. Then, I marked a big "X" on the terrain feature that my Orbital Strike would be centered on. This way, it was very clear, and my opponent had no doubts as to where I planned my Strike to fall. See the pic on the right for an example.

On wargear, how would a wargear work if both players are using it, but with different codexes which provide different abilities for it? (Older SM/SMV/DH storm shields vs the latest SM storm shields)

Each player simply follows the rules in their own Codex. All players MUST use the latest version of their respective Codex, as stated in the Legio Tournament Packet. If this still isn't clear, just email us the specific question/rule you need a ruling on, and we'll let you know. This also links into the next question...

Just to clarify, are Games Workshop FAQ 'patches' allowed?

Yes, and we've even provided the link to the GW FAQ page in the Legio Tournament Packet. Be sure to print off and bring with you a copy of your army's FAQ, just in case. FAQs may end up updating rules for older Codexes. When this is the case, the FAQ will take precedence. If there are any questions about the relevance or use of any FAQ, please email Legio Malaysia.

Our First Tournament Is Coming!

That's right, it's official. On Saturday, November 15th, Legio Malaysia is running our first 'Legio Tournament', a 1500 pt Warhammer 40,000 tourney. This will be a three round tournament, starting at 9:00 AM and finishing up in the evening with the awards ceremony. The tournament is themed, with all 15 tables being custom made specifically for this tournament. Battles will be fought across a volcanic ash plain, on a world deep inside the Eye of Terror.

We're very excited to be able to host this tournament, and we're really looking forward to seeing some new faces.
