Battlefront Miniatures wants to give YOU some free stuff!

That's right, this is an official "swag alert" for all Legionnaires and other hobbyists who visit Legio Malaysia. In case you don't check the Flames of War website often, they have just posted a survey that they would like people to fill out. The questions in it are about things like what wargames you play, how many armies you have, whether you read hobby magazines, etc.

Just a couple minutes of your time could get you a prize, and the top prize is a complete 2000 point army of YOUR CHOICE, painted by the Battlefront STUDIO. All of the winners are being chosen randomly amongst those who fill out the online survey. Interested?

Click here and check it out for yourself. Be sure to log in and follow the simple instructions. Who knows, maybe you'll end up with some freebies!

Legio News Update

Well folks, we have a few bits of news to get across to the membership, so let's get to it!

First, we want to make sure everyone remembers that there WILL be a full Legio club meeting this evening. We have a couple of issues we need to tackle, and we have some announcements for future event plans that should get even the most jaded hobbyist excited. If you're interested in helping us build a wargaming community together, we strongly urge you to attend tonight's meeting at 9 PM.

Next, our astropathic choir has just received a priority message from the next sub-sector- Singapore! The good folks at Paradigm Infinitum have officially announced the dates for the next SPORE convention. SPORE 2009 will take place on Saturday, June 6th and Sunday, June 7th, at the Singapore Polytechnic. Details are a bit scarce right now, but we do know there are some fantastic wargaming events planned.

On Saturday, they will be running a D-Day beach landing scenario for Flames of War. If you're an FoW fan, you should definitely pencil this into your hobby calendar. On Sunday they'll also have tables set aside for open Flames of War gaming. A whole weekend of WWII!

However, that's not all. On Saturday, there will be a Warhammer 40,000 tournament. We don't have any more details, like costs or points, but we will keep you all posted as we learn more.

On Sunday, they will also run a Warhammer tournament. Same deal- we don't have the full scoop on this yet, but once we get more news we'll pass it along.

Just like last year, Legio Malaysia will be sponsoring a Malaysian tournament team for both the 40K and WFB tournaments. There will be some prerequisites to join this team, but team members will enjoy some groovy tshirts and as yet-undetermined benefits. We'll briefly discuss this at tonight's meeting.

Finally, we want to remind everyone that we have a few spots left open for the Flames of War tournament on Saturday, March 21st. If you're interested, be sure to click on the banner at the top of the page and get registered!

That's about it this time around, Legionnaires. See you tonight!

Congrats to Jason- Flames of War League Champion!

This past week four brave souls battled it out to determine who would become Legio Malaysia's first Flames of War league champion, and Jason prevailed! Beating Nick in the first round, and then Edwin in the final game, Jason led his Americans to victory in two close games. Well done!

Join us on Hobby Night, March 20th, as we hand out awards for the Flames of War Season 1 league, AND we launch our Firestorm: Bagration campaign. It's a must attend night for all Flames of War fans! Free drinks and snacks will be supplied as well, so be sure to pencil in that date.

Cheers!

Yes indeed, we have moved the date for the final showdown! We have confirmed with all players that Saturday, February 28th at 11 AM is the date we'll fight it out and determine who the League Champion will be.

Week 4 and Season 2 Just Around the Corner

Hola Legionnaires!

This Friday promises to be an exciting Hobby Night!

For the Flames of War league, Friday marks the beginning of the 4th and final week of the regular season. Thus far, Edwin has managed to stay on top, but who knows what will happen in the final week? Nick has not only finished his minimum games- he's also got a two game lead for the League Fanatic award. Sweet!

With the league starting to wind down, I thought I'd recap what Legio Malaysia's upcoming plans are for Flames of War fans. Next month we'll be launching the much-anticipated Firestorm: Bagration campaign. This will kick off on Friday, March 20th at Hobby Night. If you plan on participating, please make plans to attend Hobby Night that night. We'll be conducting a pre-campaign briefing, and we'll be electing the commanding generals for the German and Soviet armies. So, if you want a say, or even want to be one of the generals, you gotta show up! Remember, ANY late war army may be played for this campaign. It's not just for German and Soviet players!

The very next morning on Saturday, March 21st we'll be running our first Flames of War Legio Tournament. This will be a 3 round, 1500 pt. Late War tournament. The rules packet for this will be done by Hobby Night, and posted in the downloads section.

Now, on to the 40K madness!

Friday begins the second season of the Warhammer 40,000 league. We are now accepting registrations, so if you want to get into Friday action as quickly as possible, be sure to pre register. Remember, ForgeWorld and scratch built models MUST be approved before you play your first game, so get those submissions in if you plan to use them.

The first night of a league also calls for something else- awards! The Season One winners will receive their trophies and applause at 9:00 PM this Friday. We'll even have drinks and snacks to commemorate this special occasion, so be sure to make it if you can!

That's about it for the league news. The last thing I want to mention relates to club matters specifically. We are working out a good time to have a proper club meeting. Gaming and circumstances have prevented us from holding a proper meeting for a long time, and we're well past due to have a good round table discussion. There are a lot of things we'd like to bring up to the membership, and as we get closer to our Birthday Celebration in May we need to get some help and preparation lined up. So, keep your ears to the ground for a time/place announcement on the site.

Thanks a bunch, and see you Friday!

FoW League Week 1 in the Books

Congrats to Nick C. for jumping out to an early lead in the league standings, and congrats to Damien and Kian (both from Singapore) for taking the lead for League Fanatics with 3 games played in Week 1. Nice job!

Fortunately, it looks like all of the off site games that were pending have been resolved just before the deadline. Remember, any off site games that get played in Week 2 MUST be reported by both parties before midnight Thursday. If you have any questions about this, let me know.

League stats below are fully updated with all of the games I've been made aware of. I'm really looking forward to this evening- we should have a new North Africa themed table up and running, and we'll also have 3 Eastern Front tables set aside for the exclusive use of Flames of War league members.

Also, I thought I'd take a moment to mention an interesting "intersection" in Legio Malaysia's activity calendar. Please note that Season 2 of the 40K league begins on February 6th. We'll have free snacks and drinks (Flames of War league players are more than welcome to partake of this as well), as well as an awards ceremony for the Season 1 winners. It promises to be a huge night with a lot of people vying for table space. We plan on having 10 gaming tables set up, but with both leagues running on that day I'm sure it will be tight.

That's about it for this update. See you guys tonight!

Jeff

Excellent Start to the league!

Wow! We had a whopping 24 people show up to Friday Hobby Night, with games of all sorts being played through the night. Among these, 4 games of Flames of War were played for the league. Nice! We were a little short of terrain/tables for Flames of War, so Legio Malaysia will light the forges once again next week and get some more options together for Flames of War players. Fear not!

We've also started to see some off-site results trickle in from Saturday's Cempaka School event. As soon as those get validated they will be posted as well. For now though, the results posted on the table below are completely current.

Have fun, and play those games!

Flames of War League Starts Today!

The wait is over, and today officially starts Legio Malaysia's first Flames of War league. For all of you out there playing in a Legio activity for the first time, welcome!

I thought I'd make a quick post reminding everyone of a few things that might crop up. We strive to run a completely objective league, with consistent standards and fair play throughout. We strongly recommend you thoroughly read the league rules pack if you haven't done so already. It contains just about everything you need to participate and have a great time. One thing I thought I'd briefly recap is off site gaming.

Any game that is not played in the presence of a League Admin (which is either myself or Azlan Ramli) is considered to be played "off site". Normally, when you play a game at Legio's Hobby Night, after the game is done both players fill out 1 results sheet and turn it in to either me or Azlan. Then, one at a time, they each confidentially report the scores for Sportsmanship and Appearance they would like to give to their opponent. We record the results, they get keyed into the master score sheet, and neither player ever knows what the other gave them. Playing off site, we have to do things a bit differently.

When you play off site, as many of you will do tomorrow at Cempaka School, the process is slightly different. Once the game is finished, both players should figure out how many league points they each earned.

EXAMPLE:

Let's say Joe and Bob played a game, and Joe won. Joe gets 15 points for a win, plus one for destroying Bob's Company HQ for a total of 16 points. Bob lost, so Bob gets 5 points for that. Bob didn't earn any bonus points, so Bob's final score is 5. Both players take note of each other's scores, shake hands, and go on with their gaming afternoon.

That evening, Joe gets on the computer and writes an email to Legio Malaysia that should go something like this:

"Hi, this is Joe, and I played a league game today against Bob. I won the game and killed Bob's company HQ, so I earned 16 points. Bob didn't get any bonus points, so he got a total of 5. He was a great sport, so I have him a 10 for Sportsmanship, and his army looks really good so his Appearance is an 8. I attached the results form that has all this in it. Cheers!"

Bob writes an email like this:

"Hi, this is Bob, and I got my butt kicked today by Joe's Germans. He killed my company HQ, so his total was 16, and I didn't earn any bonus so my score is a 5. I gave him a 7 for Sportsmanship and a 9 for Appearance. I attached the sheet as well. Cheers"

It's very important that each of you report BOTH scores- this serves as a "check and balance" to make sure the correct scores are reported. This also preserves the anonymity of the appearance and sportsmanship scores you wish to assign. Attaching the results form (available on the right in the gaming downloads section) will help make scoring that much easier, and regardless needs to be send with your email if at all possible. At a bare minimum (in case you don't have Excel), we need the two scores, and the appearance/sportsmanship scores you wish to assign to your opponent.

The last things I wanted to clarify is that for a game to be official BOTH PLAYERS must be members of the league, and you can't play the same player more than once. We do this to prevent someone from playing the same beginner player 10 times, beating him 10 times, and getting into the League Championship that way. :)

So, everyone enjoy and have a blast with the league. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to drop us a line and we'll sort you out. Hopefully we'll see all of you sometime soon at Hobby Night!

Cheers,

Jeff

Firestorm: Bagration Campaign Postponed

Hola folks!

As many of you know, the much anticipated release of the Firestorm: Bagration campaign supplement has been delayed by Battlefront until the end of February. So, that means we need to reschedule the launch of our own campaign as well. The new start date for this will be Friday, March 20th.

While it's a shame that we had to delay, this does mean we get to do something extra that will the campaign that much more fun. We're still running a Flames of War tournament on March 21st, and now we're going to use the results of ALL of the tournament games to count towards Bagration results! So, besides victory or defeat in the tournament, your games will also have an impact on the campaign as well. Very cool! :)

Don't forget to submit your lists for the first season of Legio Malaysia's Flames of War league! Games start in two days, so be sure you get registered for the fun!

Cheers!

Jan 9 Hobby Night Cancelled

Hey folks,

I've just heard via the Warp that we will be unable to open Hobby Night this Friday. Unfortunate, I know, but things do indeed come up. I'm also still in the USA as I write this, visiting our esteemed comrades at Gale Force 9 in Earlysville, Virginia. These are the guys that make those really cool smoke, fire, and other tokens you've probably seen around. If you've never heard of them, definitely check out the link in the "Killer Hobby Links" section on the right. The make REALLY cool stuff.

I'll be back in Malaysia next week, and you all can rest assured that Hobby Night will indeed happen on Jan 16th so we can kick off the Flames of War league. In the meantime, get those models painted and lists submitted if you're interested. I'll be there with my Germans! :)

Cheers,

Jeff

World War II Comes To Legio Malaysia!

2009 promises to be a HUGE year for Legio Malaysia and Flames of War! We've planned not only a league and a Legio Tournament for FoW, but also our first-ever campaign with the impending release of Firestorm: Bagration. It's gonna be awesome!

Our first venture into war-torn WWII Europe will be our first season of Flames of War league action. You'll need to submit a 1500 pt, Late War list to join The League- we'll start accepting them on January 9th, and you can start playing games on January 16th. There is no fee to join the Season 1 Flames of War League, and games may be played anywhere, not just at Hobby Nights!

For the Season 1 FoW rules packet, click here.

For the Flames of War Legio Results sheet, click here.

In addition, we're running the Flames of War "Firestorm: Bagration" campaign starting February 13th. More details will come very soon for what promises to be an awesome time.

Finally, we'd also like to bring your attention to the next Legio Tournament, which will be a 1500 point Flames of War Late War tournament to be held on Saturday, March 21st. Themed for the Eastern Front during Operation: Bagration, this tournament should be a great time for all comers. Again, full details and a rules packet will come very soon for this tournament.

We're thrilled to be able to support this outstanding game system for our membership and for other hobbyists in Malaysia. For those who haven't tried it, there hasn't been a better time to get involved!

Cheers,

Jeff

Flames of War Figure Cases Coming!

I don't know about you, but I've wanted to have a figure case with compartments specifically designed for Flames of War miniatures and tanks. As I understand it, a company called "Feldherr" offers carrying cases are available in a soft case/backpack, as well as a more traditional hard case. According to Imagine Games, both cases feature customizable foam trays specifically designed for the Flames of War miniatures range. Imagine Games is bringing these into Malaysia, so be sure to email Imagine Games if you're interested in grabbing one of these bags!

Slow, but cool hobby night...

For the first time (to the best of my recollection), last night was the first hobby night that featured everyone building and/or painting miniatures. Not a single game was played! Norman, Saleem, and I all furiously worked on our budding forces. Norman is painting a Warmachine warjack that keeps looking better and better. Next time you attend hobby night, be sure to bug him and check it out. I personally love the inked verdigris effect on much of the exposed metal parts. Very cool.

Saleem put together the bulk of his Soviet "Tchanka" teams- basically horse drawn wagons with a machine-gun team on board. He even incorporated resin tree stumps and creative arrangement to give them the sense of rushing along at breakneck speeds, happily shooting down as many fascists as possible.

As for me, I put together and spackled another two armored panzergrenadier squads, assembled another Panzer IVH, and put together two bases of Nebelwerfer rocket launchers for my German Panzer Lehr armored panzergrendier company.

We also listened to way too much 'Tenacious D' in our never ending quest for the perfect fusion of metal and hobby. Well, I would like to find that anyway!

As a final reminder, there will be no hobby night on Friday, August 15th. I'm getting married, and Saleem is coming as well. So, we won't have anyone to keep the factory open for hobby madness. However, Saleem has agreed to open hobby night on August 22nd, so we won't have to cancel that one as I originally thought. I will be on my honeymoon so I won't make it.

So, last night was quiet but very productive for the folks that made it. I look forward to seeing you all after I get hitched, and I'm also really looking forward to getting in some serious Flames of War gaming!

Cheers,

Jeff

Good news for Hobby Night

Howdy folks!

I have some more news to add to the steady stream from our international correspondent Azlan! Up until recently, on the schedule we've had Hobby Night closed at Battlefront for two Fridays, the 15th and the 22nd. This is because, as many of you know, I'm getting married on the 15th. Hobby Night night will definitely NOT be happening on that evening.

However, Saleem has agreed to come in and open up Hobby Night on the 22nd. I will still be on my honeymoon, but the rest of my fellow Legionnaires are welcome and encouraged to keep Saleem company.

Last night was an excellent Hobby Night- I assembled and basecoated my Panther A platoon, and also assembled 2 Tiger IE tanks. I've decided to switch from doing SS to Panzer Lehr in the Villers Bocage book. Azlan, I WILL have 2000 points painted by the time you get back, so keep up your awesome efforts at getting your Brits painted.

So, that's about all for now folks!

Event Update: MOATaB

Hey folks!

For those of you planning to attend the MOATaB with your Flames of War tanks (if any), we have decided for our first event to limit the scope this time to 40K. So, there will NOT be a Flames of War tank battle happening on Saturday.

Instead, we have begun planning "Kursk II", a massive "what if" tank battle that will be exclusively for Flames of War participants. Once we get the particulars nailed down, we'll let you know when this will be held. Also, keep your eyes open for our announcement on the first Flames of War League we'll be running shortly. It'll be a blast, and a great way to get games in and see how you rank up with the rest of the Legion.

Sorry if this spoils plans for any of you, but we wanted to make sure any event we do, we do right. We look forward to seeing 40K tank fans tomorrow at noon for the Mother of All Tank Battles- MOATaB!!!

Cobra is almost here!

That's right folks, in a couple of weeks this book hits the shelves worldwide! If you haven't seen it yet, be sure to come to Friday night hobby sessions. We have a copy here you can check out. Personally, I think it's the best expansion book Battlefront has done yet for Flames of War. Click on the Cobra image to check out more details on the Flames of War website...
