May 23rd Legio Birthday Events

Hola folks!

At long last, we’ve nailed down exactly what it is we’re going to be doing for our 1st Birthday party! We know a lot of you are getting your armies ready for SPORE 2009, so we wanted to do something that’s fun and not too taxing. We hope you enjoy what we have planned, and I look forward to seeing as much of our club membership (and potential future members!) as possible. We’re running two events- a painting contest and a cool mini tournament:

Golden Kris- This is a painting competition that we’ll be running once a year from this point forward. For this year, we’ll have three categories: Single Miniature, Unit, and Large Model. Single Miniature is a single, standard 25-30mm scale infantry mode, one stand of 15mm scale infantry, or one 15mm scale vehicle. 1 Mech from Heavy Gear would also fall in this category. Unit entries should consist of a game legal unit of infantry models/stands numbering at least 5 models, and no more than 20. Large Model entries should be a single model larger than a standard 25-30mm infantry, such as a Dreadnought, Tank, or Monster. Ranges smaller than 25mm scale are not eligible to be entered into this category. If you have any questions regarding your potential entry, please email us straight away and we’ll get you sorted. Entries should be brought with you when you show up ion Saturday. All entries must be submitted IN PERSON by 2 PM. Judging will begin at 3 PM.

40K Combat Patrol Tournament: As the main event, we’ll be running a 5 round “Combat Patrol” tournament. Trophies will be handed out for Best Sportsmanship, Best Patrol (Appearance & Theme combined), and of course a Purity Seal for the winner. Lists must be no more than 400 points, chosen from a single codex as normal, and conform to the following rules:

1) You must have at least one Troops choice

2) You may have one HQ choice, but no more than one

3) Armies are not required to take mandatory unit choices. However, all unit restrictions apply (such as 0-1)

4) No model may have more than 2 Wounds

5) No model may have a 2+ or better Armor/Invulnerable save. So, a Chaplain in power armor would be ok, while a Dracon with a Shadow Field or a Space Marine Terminator would not.

6) No Unique/Special/Named characters may be used

7) No vehicles may be used with an Armor total greater than 33. This is determined by adding the Front, Rear, and Side values together. For instance, a Rhino would be 31 (11+10+10), so it could be used. A Chaos Dreadnought would be 34 (12+10+12), so it could not be used.

8) Remaining rules are as per standard Legio Tournaments. Models must be WYSIWYG and fully painted/based.

If you have any questions about the requirements for this tournament, let us know. If you plan on attending the tournament, please email your intention to do so. There is no cost to play, so get those patrols ready! All tournament players need to arrive no later than 10 AM.

We will have free drinks and snacks for those attending, and if we have space we’ll have tables available for open gaming. Attendance is also free- there is no cost to participate in Golden Kris and the Combat Patrol tournament. The fun starts at 9:30 and will continue until 6 PM, after which we may remain open for some free gaming and hanging out. Feel free to post questions on this thread- we’ll get them answered for you!

Cheers

  6. Hey jeff,

Can warlock be used as HQ choice??

Since all farseers have 3 wounds, they're out. So can warlocks be used on their own?

    Thanks. Khairul E

  7. @Doc- Sorry, but we can't advance the date. We've had this date set and posted for months, and we still have prep work to do. Damn shame you're going to miss it.

@Alvin- You can only enter one model per category, but you can enter all three categories if you wish.

@Khairul- I'm going to have to get back to you on the Warlock thing. I need to refer to my materials before I make a call on this one...

  8. Khairul - you can't use the Warlocks as retinue because you'd need to take a Farseer for that. However, you can still take a Warlock for each Guardian squad you field. Kill teams don't need to have an HQ

  11. @arzmi- LOL, yeah right! Don't forget rule 3! Even though you don't have to take an HQ, and only need 1 Troops choice, all other selection rules apply FYI

  13. "Unit entries should consist of a game legal unit of infantry models/stands numbering at least 5 models, and no more than 20."

Does a unit of 5 Tyranid Warriors qualify for this entry?

    ReplyDelete
  14. I don't have a Tyrnaid codex on me, but yes, as long as you can select a Tyranid Warrior unit spec'd out like they are, you're good to go. Since they are on 40mm bases, they qualify as infantry for the Unit category

  15. @ Doc: I have facebook! Joined!

@ Arzmi: I thought you can only use maximum 1 Assassin per army no matter the size unless its Apocalypse...

  21. Question, is there an entry fee? What about the prizes?

  22. "We will have free drinks and snacks for those attending, and if we have space we’ll have tables available for open gaming. Attendance is also free- there is no cost to participate in Golden Kris and the Combat Patrol tournament..."

We do not give out prizes for Legio tournament/league/contest winners- we give trophies. Anyone can go out and get toy soldiers, but only tournament winners can get a Legio trophy or Purity Seal...

  23. Wow lots of interest here, nice to see there's lots of support :D

    Some questions of my own:
    1. First one is kinda obvious, but just to make sure. I know that 40K and Fantasy models would fit, but does Lord of the Ring models count. I don't have those models so I have no idea on their scale.
    2. Is there an exception for Drop Pods with regards to the 33 AV limit? Just wanted to have solid reply before anyone else thinks about it.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Oh yeah just for reference Drop Pods are F/S/R 12 all around, meaning it would be 36 AV?

    ReplyDelete
  25. Nice, a trophy is the best gift, can't wait!

Though I hoped that we had more time to prepare...

    ReplyDelete
  26. I honestly think you don't need as much time to prepare like some Ultramarine player I know :D

    ReplyDelete
  27. @Firaya- Yes, Lord of the Rings models are more than welcome to be entered in any or all of the categories. The new plastic Ent looks sweet!

You cannot use a Drop Pod in Combat Patrol- you are correct. The armor total is 36.

@Alvin- Yeah, next year we'll be much more aggressive about promoting Golden Kris several months out with blog entries and color posters that we'll hang up at the local gaming shops. Hopefully by then we'll have a few people actively contributing to the "behind the scenes" work at Legio. The more reliable, quality people we can get, the better we'll get with effective promotions of our events :)

  28. no 2+ armour saves..doom sirens goin to have a field day..

    ReplyDelete
  29. Azlan must be polishing his Thousand Sons this very moment lol :P

    ReplyDelete
  30. I just realized something. What if the models that someone wants to enter for the Golden Kris is also part of his 400 point Patrol?

    ReplyDelete
  31. I guess he picked the wrong models lol. If someone is unwilling to paint up a model specifically for GK, and only has enough to play in the Combat Patrol, he's going to have to choose between the two events.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Woah, so there's gonna be another one next year? After this, I'm gonna prepare for that right after I'm done! XD

    ReplyDelete
  33. Oh, and Shaz, I'm going back to Penang soon, and that also means time away from the painting table for me... Sad that I couldn't buy a new model just for the event and I have to use some of my previously painted ones, not to mention prepare them for competition standards...

  34. can I...take a Razorback without a dedicated unit assigned to it?
