Traitor Radical Inquisitor Stopped at the Gates of Juru-Ukor!

Massive forces mustered by the heretic radical Lord Inquisitor Rizal descended on the beleaguered intrepid Imperial defenders of Ghemehaal, making ready to assault the space-port city of Juru-Ukor. Most fortunate for the Imperium, His Emminence the Lord Inquisitor Cortez himself was on hand to banish the forces of evil.

Traitor Lord Inquisitor Rizal's forces were significant indeed, and while not much detail is known as to its disposition, it is known that the following forces were thrown against the Imperium: 1 Warhound Titan, 3 Baneblades, 1 Shadowsword, 1 Stormblade, 10 Leman Russ, 1 Stompa, 2 Basilisks, 1 Manticore, 1 Deathstrike, around 70 traitor Astartes, around 20 traitor stormtroopers, a bunch of Rhinos, 2 Predators, 100 Orks, 9 Killa Kans, 3 Dreads, 6 Sentinels, 2 Dreadnoughts, a bunch of Daemon Princes and Greater Daemons, 1 Fateweaver, 1 Soul Grinder, several daemon packs, 1 Hellhound, a couple of assassins and the Lord Inquisitor himself.

Lord Inquisitor Cortez was able to muster the following: 4 Baneblades, 1 Shadowsword, 12 Leman Russ, 1 Laser Destroyer, 1 Manticore, 1 Basilisk, around 300 Imperial Guard infantry (Brandenburg and Vostroyan), 30 Astartes (Salamanders), 1 Dreadnought, 1 Land Raider, 6 Chimera, 1 Hellhound, 1 Devil Dog, 4 Thunderbolts as well as some Officio Assassinorium operatives.

The battle itself was awesome, though we were rushed for time. Highlights would definitely include:

1. 1 Shot 1 Kill!
The Astartes show how it's done as a Salamanders lascannon gunner drew a bead on a massive oncoming Stormblade super-heavy tank. His single shot was placed exactly where a weakness in the armored behemoth's plating allowed the concentrated las-energy to ignite the super-heavy's energy core, causing multiple critical explosions and utterly destroying it in one fell swoop (1 hit, 1 pen, two 6's on critical table, a third roll of 5).

2. Kill the Xenos!
Emerging from the smoke of the Stormblade wreck, some 20+ Ork xenos cowered in the resulting crater. Follow up firepower from the Imperial lines quickly reduced this to 4 Orks.

3. This is why they call him Vindicare
An operative of the Officio Assassinorium had infiltrated deep behind enemy lines, taking refuge amidst the vile blasphemous temple of doom, positioned behind the enemy's main tank line, When the time came, the Vindicare assassin fired his single turbo-penetrator round into the rear armor of an enemy Baneblade, causing 2 structural points of damage.

4. Begone, Foul Abomination!
Speeding into battle aboard a Salamaders Land Raider, Lord Inquisitor Cortez charged off the assault ramp with his Astartes escort, and took on the Fateweaver in mortal hand-to-hand combat. The result was preordained, as the foul abomination was banished back to the warp. The Lord Inquisitor and his escort were subsequently assaulted by a crazed pack of Ork bikers, but managed to make good their escape back into Imperial lines.

5. Air Power
The Imperial Navy's Thunderbolts proved their worth as they streaked in and unleashed a concentrated missile bombardment of the Ork Stompa, quickly immobilizing it and removing the threat to center of the Imperial lines.

6. Intrepid Scouts
The Brandenburg Imperial Guard sneaked 3 Sentinels behind enemy lines, past the enemy disruption beacon, and attacked the undefended enemy artillery park from the rear with furious multilaser and autocannon blasts and a pell-mell charge, disabling almost all of the enemy's artillery in one fell swoop.

This was one awesome battle and reminded me of why we used to play non-stop Apoc for almost a year.

Like this man, we're upset we had to cancel this week, but it occasionally happens. Have a great weekend everyone, and everything should be great for Hobby Night next Friday!

Cheers

RSVP Time, Post Tourney Cool Down

Well, "Ghemehaal in Flames" is in the books, and it was great. We had a lot of fun, I really liked the mercenary squads people came up with, and it was cool to run the club's THIRD yearly tournament. Wow, how time flies. "Battle in the Eye of Terror", "The Inquisition Wars", and now "Ghemehaal in Flames". Cool.

I thought today I'd reiterate some stuff to help clear up some persistent confusion that people seem to still have about Legio Malaysia hobby nights. Some key points to know, folks (contrary to popular belief)

1. There is NO COST for playing at Hobby Night. Zero. Zilch. Nada. Kosong.

2. You do NOT have to be fully painted or WYSIWYG to play on Hobby Night. These standards are only enforced during official Legio events, like the previously mentioned 40K tournament. If you want to play with bare plastic miniatures, and have your Carnifex count as a Land Raider (shudder), that's completely between you and your opponent on Hobby Nights.

For more details, please download and peruse the Legio Malaysia FAQ. It doesn't bite.

So, whatever you'd like to play miniatures-wise, whether it be Flames of War, 40K, Warmachine, or anything else involving assembling, painting, and playing with toy soldiers, come on down tomorrow night and throw some dice. We'll keep a spot open for you (as long as you RSVP of course!)

See you there...

Bugs Die; Legio Must Flee!

Unbeknown to me until yesterday evening, we have to do one of our "uber fogging" sessions at the factory tomorrow evening. The entire complex and interior is getting fogged for mosquitos/bugs, which will make the hobby area vile and unsuitable for gaming Friday night.

However, Saturday will be just fine, so we're definitely still on for our annual November tournament. I look forward to seeing everyone there, particularly everyone's take on the new "Mercenary Squad" option. For those not playing in tournament, you are welcome to come watch/hang out if you like :)

Until then...

No Hobby Night This Week

Sorry to disappoint, but with the long weekend courtesy of Deepavali, we've made plans. :) We'll see you all next Friday, November 12th, otherwise known as "Ghemehaal Eve". Take care and have a great weekend...

RSVP Time! Who's Coming?

The big Legio 40K tournament, "Ghemehaal in Flames", is only a couple weeks away. We've gotten quite a few advance signups (thanks guys, I hope you dig the tshirt!), with more room available. We'll take registrations until we reach max capacity, so if you're interested please don't delay. Sign up- it'll be a blast! :)

Warhammer has been generating quite a bit of interest lately, with games going on each of the last several hobby nights. I've just started collecting Beastmen, and hope to have a playable army done over the next several weeks. How about you guys? Who's coming? What will you be bringing...?

RSVP and a call to arms

Hola folks!

Tomorrow is Hobby Night once again, so please email Legio Malaysia or post up here if you plan to come. We'd love to have you!

As an FYI, due to factory expansion we're going to move the hobby area to another location within the factory. If you have armies, models, terrain, etc. that you don't want anyone else touching but yourself, please try and pop by tomorrow to grab it (and post below as well). We will probably need to move our big shelf and do a little reorganizing. If you can't make it, we'll take the utmost care to move your stuff without damaging it. I certainly don't want my goodies broken either.

We've still got some spots open for the upcoming "Ghemehaal in Flames" 40K tournament in three weeks, so if you're interested be sure to get your registration in. I'd hate to turn anyone away because they waited until the last minute to sign up! :)

See you guys tomorrow...

RSVP, and 2 Days Left for FREE Tshirt!

That's right folks, for those attending our upcoming "Ghemehaal in Flames" 40K Tournament on November 13th time is running out! You've only got two days left to register and get a free tshirt! Registering early not only gets you a one of a kind Legio tshirt, but it also helps immensely with the planning and execution of big events like this. Of course, we'll happily take reservations after the 15th, but you won't be getting a tshirt. This tournament promises to be a fun event with great scenarios, armies, and of course the legendary Purity Seal! Don't delay- register today! :)

So, who's coming tomorrow night? I honestly have no idea what I'm going to do with my Hobby Night time tomorrow! I'll have to think on that one...

Ultramarines Pre Orders Have Begun!

I know some folks have taken to panning this flick for a number of reasons, whether it be graphics or disgust that the Ultramarines are the featured chapter. Personally, I'm really looking forward to getting my copy (pre-ordered yesterday!) and checking this flick out. At the very least it's bound to be a 40K fan pleaser, esp. with Dan Abnett being involved. This latest trailer looks pretty cool to me. Anyone else planning on getting this flick?

This Is One Busy Quarter for Tourneys!

Unless I got it wrong, this is one busy quarter as far as wargames tournaments go in Malaysia.

We got some expectedly fierce FoW action going on today with an 1800pt Mid War Monsters tournament (of mayhem). October 30th is Hobby Forge's 500pt WFB tournament (great excuse to paint your next or first 500pts of Old World harbingers of mayhem). November 13th is the annual Legio 40k tournament, and this year we're building on the epic Ghemehaal mythos (and this time it's 1500pts of mayhem - plus free troops!). And for a change of air (fresher I think), there's Just Wargames' 1750pt 40k tourney in Sabah on December 5th. Did I miss anything?

Looks like the wargames hobby is starting to heat up again in Malaysia - or is it? I noticed over the past 10 years that when it comes to tournaments, there are broadly four kinds of wargamers, from my point of view:

Type 1: Waaaargh!!!! Just the excuse I need to build and paint a new army! I know, I'll theme it after an Imperial Navy boarding party so most of the troops are conscript sailors with a core of veteran armsmen, painted in the colors of Battlefleet Obscurus, circa M38.2237!

Type 2: Waaaargh!!!! This is going to be a blast! New opponents to play against! New interesting diabolical scenarios and themes! Great games on kick ass terrain! New models to paint! Woohoo, is this fun or what?!

Type 3: Waaaargh!!!! Kill 'em all!!! Must get into training now! Where's my great tome of meta-game stats? My models all got 3 colors on them right?

Type 4: Wah, got tournament ah? Shy la. I'm not so good. I lose most of my games. My army still not finished painting yet ... etc.

Okay, maybe there are more than 4 types, but hey, this is not an empirical thesis for a Harvard MBA. There's nothing wrong with the view of each of the above - simply because it's always and ever will be your hobby. You get out of it what you want to get out of it, and it usually has to do with what you put into it.

Having said that, I do have some thoughts for the Type 4 people.

If you are a Type 4, trust me, there's nothing to be shy about. Wargames tournaments are not sporting events, and it's not just about winning or losing (of course, it's nice to win, but it's not the end-all be-all of wargames tourneys). And don't worry if you don't think your painting is not good enough (the Type 3 people never think about that, lol) - the point of painting your army for the tournament is the sense of achievement you get for actually getting your army fully-painted. It's your work, and nobody can take that away from you, and you should rightly be proud of it (also, tourneys are probably the best catalyst for people - me included - to finish painting an army on time). What's important is that you have FUN. And the fun is in preparing your army for the tournament, the anticipation of the coming big day, the playing with people you've never played against before, etc. So go sign up for the next one!

Anyways, that's my thought for the day. Wargames tournaments, just like the wargames community and hobby in general, lives and breathes on your involvement. The more people get involved, the better the hobby gets. And playing in tourneys is one of the easiest and fun ways to get involved. Maybe next time we'll talk about other, more effort-heavy, ways to get involved in the hobby.

RSVP Time- Tourney Around the Corner

The glorious Admiral Farquhar, pictured above, fought hard over the Ghemehaal System to save it from xenos, Chaos, and even the Inquisition. Next month on November 13th, you too can fight for the fate of this system in the "Ghemehaal in Flames" 40K Tournament. Click on the banner ad at the top of our blog for full rules. Registrations have already begun, so be sure to get yours done before Oct 15th and snag a free tshirt!

Tomorrow night sounds like a great night to test out tournament lists and paint your mercenary squad. So... who's coming?

Thursday, September 30, 2010

RSVP Time!

So, who's coming? I'll be working on the seemingly endless French, and maybe on some terrain stuff for the upcoming Legio 40K tournament as well. How about you guys?

Post up here, and let's have an awesome Hobby Night tomorrow!

RSVP and Do Some Playtesting!

It's a great time to be a competitive wargamer in Malaysia these days, as there are a whopping FIVE tournaments coming up over the next several weeks. As a reminder:

This Saturday, September 25th, there's a Warmachine tournament being held at Hobby Forge. I'm not sure if there are any spots left open, but if you're interested pop by the shop or contact Alvin PRONTO!

The very next day on Sunday Comics Mart is running a Flames of War "Rookie Challenge" tournament. For more details and signup info pop by the shop or contact Edwin at Imagine Games.

A couple of weeks after that, on October 9th, there's another Flames of War tournament going down- this time themed to "Mid War Monsters". Details are sketchy, but if this sounds like your cup of tea please contact Edwin for the details.

Finally, Alvin is running a Warhammer tournament on Saturday October 30th. Visit our original post for all the juicy details on that one.

With all this tourney madness coming up, not to mention Legio's own 40K tournament in November, I imagine a lot of folks are testing lists out and seeing what they can get together for total victory. There's no place better than Legio Malaysia to get that done, so post up your RSVP here. We'll see you there!

Excellent Times!

That was a really excellent Hobby Nite, even if I say so myself! All kinds of action was going on. Jeff managed to get his French mortar platoon ready for painting. I finished off my first Panzer II platoon and undercoated and got the basic german grey coat sprayed on the Panzer III platoon. Some pics will come up on that.

Dice rolling was pretty furious too. Bangkok-based Faizal turned up with his Vampire Counts, and while it looked like he was demolishing Iqbal's Chaos Warriors the fierce battle ended in a draw. Not so lucky was Doc, whose Ogres got shot to ribbons by Arzmi's Empire army, who finished off the enemy with a spirited and glorious charge by shiny knights. Subhan actually brought his Necrons, and while his army was eventually beaten by Rizal's rapidly growing Orks (great job on the painting progress - nice), that was some amazing action too - Necrons charging and wiping out Nob bikers, etc. It was fun to watch - which was what fellow Necron player Sean did, along with myself and Redeye. Redeye's test BA took on my Brandenburg 6th Assault Grenadiers in the excellent Vanguard mission, but was completely swamped by the guardsmen's heavy firepower and massed assault.

Then there was some excellent hobby and shop talk, which carried on to the mamak and off to a great start to the weekend. That's what's it about - totally looking forward to next Hobby Nite!

Thursday, September 16, 2010

RSVP Here!

Yes indeed folks, we're having Hobby Night tomorrow! Who's coming? We've got a brand new table done, which is actually a repaint of the old desert table. We also painted up some new rocky terrain, and while the table still needs a bit more, it is certainly playable "as is".

Hope to see you all out there!

RSVP Time, and Some Tournament News!

Believe it or not, Legio Malaysia will be holding Hobby Night this Friday at the usual time and place. We know many of you might have some great Raya plans, but if you're free and want to hobby we'd love to see you! RSVP here and celebrate with dice rolls and victory!

In other news, Alvin of Hobby Forge is running a 500 pt Warhammer tournament at his shop on Saturday, October 30th from 11:00 AM to 5:45 PM. For the rules pack, please click here to download. If you're baffled, confused, bamboozled, or just lonely, email Alvin and he'll get you sorted!

That's it for this Legio update. I hope to see a lot of you there- cheers!

Awesome!

After skipping a week, it's most amazing to have Hobby Nite back! The proceedings started quietly enough, with two dark disciples already entrenched in the Legio library no doubt devouring some dark secrets encased therein. Jeff was busy refurbishing our desert table. He actually repainted the table and basecoated and drybrushed some 20-odd pieces of scatter terrain. The new-look desert table promises to be awesome.

I started the Nite by assembling the last 4 Boar Boyz for my army, and then proceeded to mess around with the models, trying to decide which unit to start painting first - which was eventually left undecided :) Of course, this was much to Jeff's and Iqbal's amusement, who always consider me a dice-wh*re and unable to focus on just hobby during Hobby Nite (unless it's like a last-minute terrain rush or something like that). Iqbal managed to do work on his Chaos warriors - those are real nice models!

Before I knew it, the first action was already happening on the city table, with Eldar facing down some mon-keigh Astartes. I didn't get to watch the whole game, which is a shame as Eldar is always great to watch - especially when they gun down power-armored mon-keigh (no bias intended ... lol). And the army also featured a squad of brightly-colored Harlequins - which is rare these days.

Joe was there with his Nids, and I'm not sure who he played that night - I was getting pretty distracted with my own game. Meanwhile, Dann's nids took on Sean's Necrons on the ice table - and once again, I have no idea what went on there.

The reason for my distraction was my match against Rizal's Ork horde - 110 greenskins and a Trukk against 108 IG and 4 AFV. We played an Ork Battles Mission - and it was just epic! I won't get into details, suffice to say that it was classic what-you-read-about-in-fluff massed infantry action. By turn 5, a combined total of 180 infantry and bikers from both sides had been killed.

Epic. Totally looking forward to the next Hobby Nite.

It's Been Two Weeks... RSVP Today!

Finally we're back to having a Hobby Night again! Who's coming this time around? I'll be there re-painting the desert table, and maybe working on some French. How about you guys?

Closed this Friday Folks

This Friday is a local holiday, and I've decided to take a little road trip and visit Malacca City this weekend with my wife. We're driving down Friday morning, so obviously we won't be opening up the factory for hobby night. My apologies if you had your heart set on the Legio this week, but I've never been to Malacca and I hear the food and sights are awesome.

Once I get back on Sunday I'm starting my third "Hobby Rush" with the goal of painting a Flames of War 1750 Point French Infantry Company by the end of September. What are your plans for the long weekend? Any new armies? Mighty battles? Tell us all here, and think happy thoughts. The next Hobby Night will be on September 3rd!

Cool Store in KK

I was in KK earlier in the week on a business trip, and managed to squeeze in a bit of time to drop by Just Wargame, the store owned by the 2010 Golden Kris winner - and I'm glad I did!

It's a real comfy place just one floor up in a strip-mall with an Old Town downstairs, lots of other makan places around and shopping mall next door.
As you enter, stock is arranged on racks to the right and currently it's all 40k and Fantasy.

There's plenty of space in the store, and 6 tables were already set-up with terrain, and the always-handy fridge stocked with all manner of liquid refreshment (none of the Paulaner variety). There's a couple of tables for painting and modeling, and there were a few cool-looking terrain projects in progress.

In fact, the ample space is really attractive. The place can easily - comfortably - have 10 tables and still have spare room. Which prompted my next question - does Just Wargame plan to have any tournaments in the near future? And the answer is a yes! I don't have details yet, but it will be on December 4th and 5th. We'll post up details once we get them.

Anyways, if you are ever in KK, go check out the store at B1-3, Lot 9, 1st Floor, Blk B, Karamunsing Capital, KK. phone: 010-9510187. email: just.wargame@yahoo.com

What a Rockin' Hobby Nite

That was a fantastic Hobby Nite. It helped that I managed to come in early :) Saw some of Jeff's spanking new Deathkorps infantry ... really nice models and paintjobs. He spent the rest of the day assembling, basing and undercoating a squad of DKOK infantry. Man, that FW stuff is really awesome - and super-detailed too. The bayonets fit onto the rifles just like a real bayonet should. Nuts.

Kai was also there by the time I arrived, painting up his mechs - nice and bright paintwork. I got down to assembling my O&G stuff. I managed to get 20 Night Goblins, 3 fanatics and a rock lobber and crew assembled, and prepped 4 more Boar Boyz for assembly - which would have been done except that I did owe Subhan a game. That game turned out to be super-fast as my Ravenwing were easily cleaned off the table by his Chaos marines (it was really quite amazing).

Talking about dice-chucking, we had a new face last nite, Ian, who brought his Space Wolves. After hanging awhile talking shop at the hobby table, Doc arrived fresh from his latest voyage in the deep blue seas, brandishing his mean purple Orks. Jo and his Nids were around, looking for food, which he found amidst some nasty looking Blood Angels. Kong had some WFB action going, though I completely missed that game - I spent most of my time at the hobby table with my O&G. And amidst all that 28mm GW action, Saleem and Kai were going at it with what sounds like a hard-fought Heavy Gear game.

Anyways, that felt really good. Totally looking forward to more!!!

It's 15pts, and will go for four rounds (based on attendance). We weren't sent a rules pack nor a direct link to one, but the organizer has told me one can be found somewhere on their forums. Miniatures are expected to be painted for this event.

For more information, please visit the Warmachine Malaysia forums.

See you all tomorrow!

Happy Birthday Legio Malaysia!

Legio Malaysia's 2nd Birthday Bash turned out to be a most rewarding experience. Jeff and I are totally drained from it, but completely happy and satisfied! And I'm sure the exhaustion was shared across the board - the Singaporeans and JB people from their all-nite drive and sleeping in the car, the regular last-minute all-niter painters and of course the people who just had to watch that last World Cup match the night/early-morning before.

We throw this little birthday soiree every year to celebrate our beloved hobby, and especially to celebrate my favorite wargames club in the world. It's just great to see fellow wargamers totally immersed into every aspect of the hobby - the modeling, the painting, the bantering, the gaming, the strategizing, the dice-rolling (and dice-cursing) and the all-round having a great time with like-minded people thing.

This year, along with the traditional annual Golden Kris competition, we hosted the Tournament of Skulls, a standard Legio Malaysia 40k tournament - with a bloody twist in which players fight desperate battles to secure objectives, all the while knowing that great rewards await those who bring sackloads of skulls to the skull-throne. After 3 rounds of increasingly frenzied wargames action, the winners are:

Tournament Champion - Kenny T
Skull Champion of Khorne - Kenny T
Best Sportsmanship - Ritahuddin D
Best Appearance - Kadir D

The Golden Kris this year is just mind-blowing. To say that the standards have improved would be a gross understatement - they've gone right through the roof! I had the great honor of judging this year's contest - and it was a painful honor indeed. I believe judging this year's GK was one of the most difficult things I've done - the models and painting was simply amazing! Now I can't wait to see what the entries will be like next year.

In the end, Golden Kris honors, trophies and medals were awarded to:

Golden Kris 2010 Overall Winner - Oliver V
Golden Kris 2010 Player's Choice - Kadir D
Single Model Category:
Gold - Oliver V
Silver - Jeff B
Bronze - Carl L
Unit Category:
Gold - Carl L
Silver - Kadir D
Bronze - Reuben L
Large Model Category:
Gold - Oliver V
Silver - Kenny T
Bronze - Carl L
Special Category - BFG Capital Ship:
Gold - Jeff B
Silver - Khairul E
Bronze - Rizal A

My many thanks and appreciation to my fellow Legio founder Jeff, our hobby ambassador Khairul (who flew back from Bangkok just to help make this event successful) and everyone who participated and helped out.

Ave Legio!

Hobby Night Cancelled this Week

Sorry folks, but scheduling conflicts with both Azlan and myself are going to force us to cancel the show tonight. Hobby Night will resume on July 2nd, otherwise known to us as "Birthday Eve". See you then! :)

Thursday, June 17, 2010

RSVP Sucka!

Mr T. says that you need to hobby, and what better place to do it then Legio Malaysia? I pity the fool that doesn't come chuck some dice or paint! ;)

So, who's coming? I'll be furiously painting my Eldar. How about YOU?

Play Warmachine?

If you do and live in the Klang Valley area, you need to pop by and check out the Warmachine Malaysia forums:

Warmachine Malaysia Forums

Players from this outfit meet up on Sundays at Hobby Forge, and they are always looking for new players to get involved. If you have the figs, but have been unable to play due to lack of opponents or opportunity, you might want to give these guys a try.

Of course, folks are always welcome to play Warmachine at Hobby Night as well, but if Sunday gaming sounds good to you, look no farther then Warmachine Malaysia...

Who's Coming Tomorrow? Post Your War Cry Here!

There's been a lot of chat lately on the 40K Malaysia forums about Necromunda. Is anyone planning on playing some games tomorrow? I'd love to see the gangs out there tomorrow night battling in the hive...

Post your RSVP here if you're planning on attending tomorrow. I will be at the hobby tables, assembling the last bits of my upcoming Iyanden Eldar army for the 40K Malaysia "Legends" challenge. How about you guys?

Also, members, don't forget that tomorrow is a meeting. I know it's a bit late notice, but it's been a while, and if we can get a few Legionnaires together around 9:00 PM that'd be great. Azlan and I have some ideas we think you'll find interesting, and Iqbal has suggested some good topics as well. Please note this meeting is for Legio Malaysia members only. If you're not a member, you're still welcome as always to come to Hobby Night and play- we'll hold the meeting in another room.

I'm looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow for another great night of hobby! :)

Achtung! Legio Malaysia Members Meeting This Friday

This will happen at 9 PM, this coming Hobby Night. We strongly encourage all members to attend if possible. We have some events ideas to chat about, and we need to make some plans for the second half of 2010. See you there! :)

Thursday, June 3, 2010

RSVP Time

So, who's coming tomorrow night? What are you getting into? With all the organized activity we've been running in the recent past, it seems strange that nothing in particular is scheduled for tomorrow. Open Gaming!

In case you didn't notice on our Events Calendar below, Tay and Shazli are running a 40K League at Comics Mart, loosely based on Legio Malaysia's own system. As of now they have not yet posted a rules pack, so if you want to know specifics please get in contact with the league organizers. It starts on Monday June 14th, so be sure to get with them straight away if you're interested.

Also, due to key members moving away, we've decided to cancel the Flames of War Firestorm: Market Garden campaign. Folks are still welcome to attend hobby night and play lots of FoW, but we won't be running an official campaign. When we get enough club members interested in the future, we'll schedule something and we'll be sure to let you all know about it.

Cheers

Ultramarines Teaser is Up

I highly recommend a visit to the Ultramarines movie website, where you can register and check out the teaser. If you see Shazli anytime soon, be sure to tease him that he wasn't the first to post about this coolness on his blog. Shaz, report to the Chaplain for penitent duties! ;)

Heads Up! No Hobby Night This Week

Just a quick announcement here: There will be no Hobby Night this week. This Friday is Wesak Day, and we imagine a lot of folks will probably take advantage of the three day weekend to get out and do stuff. I certainly will!

Hobby Night will resume Friday, June 4th. Until then, cheers!

RSVP as Two Wars End

Greetings Legionnaires and Guests!

Two campaigns have recently wrapped up- Joe's Fortenhaf Warhammer campaign, as well as my "Arenxis Burns" Battlefleet Gothic campaign. Tonight there's no scheduled activity, so feel free to enjoy open gaming to your heart's content. You're also welcome to join me at the hobby table. I'll be painting SS Panzergrenadiers for the upcoming Flames of War Firestorm: Market Garden campaign.

Also, for those interested, I have not forgotten about the final issue of "The Aquila" for our recently finished BFG campaign. I had hoped for some help with an image I wanted to publish, but it looks like that's not going to work out. So, I'll proceed without it and get it published by this weekend. :)

So, who's coming? What are you going to get into?

All Hail the Latest Bearer of the Purity Seal!

Congratulations to Joe for bagging the Purity Seal in recognition for a job well done with his Fortenhaf WFB campaign! I personally think it's well-deserved. Totally look forward to more of this kind of excellent wargames dedication and all kinds of goodness!

Hobby Nite was also really interesting as we saw some really good diversity happening at the Legio. For instance, Jeff and Iqbal hobbying away with FoW and BFG models (and later Arzmi happily airbrushing his daemons); while Jeff, Nick, Syamael, Faizal and myself were fighting desperate battles in the deep space of BFG; even as Doc and Arzmi were locked in honorable WFB battle in the Old World; and Alvin, Din, Joe and Subhan were duking out in the grim battlefields of 40k; while Soo Jin, Kong and Jade's dogfighting was setting the sky ablaze in their AI games. There was even one moment that only had 4 tables with games on them - all of them from different games systems. I love it!

Doc bid us farewell for a few months as he takes ship yet again. We wish him bon voyage and a safe, speedy and happy return to Legio shores. I suspect he will return with an entirely brand new army all painted up and ready to roll, as he always does after everyone of his tours of duty. Any bets what that army's going to be?

I really stretched it for myself - started cleaning my brand new FoW Cromwells, had two large BFG campaign battles, and even a pick-up game of 40k with my Eldar. Man, that was awesome! It was a real dice-fest of a Hobby Nite, and the last dice rolled in anger was actually pretty late (I believe it was a Tau escort trying to get away from a squadron of Iron Wolves Gladius frigates) and certainly much later than usual.

Anyways, it's par for the course that Hobby Nites end with extremely tired bodies and minds, but extremely happy souls, and this Hobby Nite was no exception. In fact, it somehow felt even better than the last one. Then again, I feel like that every week :) ... I love it! See you guys next week!

Thursday, May 13, 2010

Yesssss! RSVP Time!!!

Woohoo! It's that most anticipation-filled time of week again! The hours counting down to the next Hobby Nite!

I'll be bringing my Battlegroup Farquhar for the next battle in the Arenxis Burns BFG campaing, my Eldar for opportunistic games off the Battle Missions book, as well as my FoW Cromwells to assemble and paint.

Who's up?

Arenxis Burns Turn 3 Recap

Turn 3 is done and dusted, with a unexpectedly quiet Glenmarie sub. Two raids took place, and the people of the Ghemehaal system are fed up! ;)

Hail the Victors!

True to legend, the combined might of the Bretonnians and Wood Elves met and routed the evil forces of the Dark Elves and Ogres in the epic finale of the Battle of Fortenhaf. It sounds great, and what little I managed to see of the final battle looked epic indeed, but it would be great if someone could fill in the details here :)

I was actually late to Hobby Nite, and by the time I got to the Legio, Peter, Iqbal, Alvin and Doc were knee-deep into the fantasy campaign finale battle. Jeff had already played an Arenxis Burns campaign game against the Grey Knights (a narrow victory, I heard) and was busy at the Hobby Table. Soo Jin and Kong were battling it out Eldar vs Eldar with beautifully-painted Aeronautica Imperialis aircraft. The models are absolutely gorgeous, and I might just start an Imperial Navy force. Lexxis, Subhan and Shazli were in 40k heat. And Arzmi was calmly painting his Orks - and I saw lots of bikes too.

I saw Iqbal's nice kit-bashed orbital defence stations. Nice! Syamael whipped out his freshly painted Iron Wolves BFG fleet, featuring brass-etched SW icons and all, and we promptly went about fighting a campaign Raid - that was truly awesome (even if it didn't allow me to use my brand-new Emperor battleship which I stayed up really late to finish painting the night before)! Paxter returned from the Warp with his fleet of Forgeworld Tau BFG ships (a thousand percent better than the GW ones - cheaper too), and he had his first introductory Cruiser Clash. The young upstart race learns fast, and by the 3rd turn he was starting to punish my Imperial Navy force. Can't wait to see that fleet completed.

Hobby Nite wrapped up really late for me. As is par for the course, I was truly tired. But happy! And totally looking forward to the next Hobby Nite!

Wheee! It's time to RSVP!

Okay, mebbe that rhyme was lame.

Regardless, let's get tomorrow's party started with some "I shall be there"'s. Joe's Warhammer campaign is going strong, and my own campaign enters Week 3 tomorrow. I'm expecting a lot more games this time around. Maybe the next issue of "The Aquila" will need more than one page...?

I leave you today with a very nice picture that Soo Jinn whipped up to commemorate the "Battle of Amman Prime" from last week. I hope to see lots of folks tomorrow, so post up and let us know the deal...

Arenxis Burns Turn 2 Recap

What a night! :)

We had four new players join the campaign, and two battles fought. Nick and Soo Jin went at it in a "Raiders" scenario, while Azlan and I fought a battle in which I attacked in the "Exterminatus" mission. For full details on renown and battle results, check out the Aquila below!

Issue 2 of "The Aquila"

Total Satisfaction!

I know this happens every Friday night, as we pack up and talk shop and trade heroic stories and what-ifs, totally tired and hungry from hours of hobby and gaming, but also completely happy. But it never fails to deliver total satisfaction! The kind that sends you home happy, but rearing for more (as soon as you get some sleep and energy back).

Friday's Hobby Nite was real interesting. For the first time ever, we actually had more BFG games than 40k and Fantasy games (in the past few weeks, with Joe's WFB campaign in full swing, we saw more Fantasy games than anything else). That was a weird experience.

Doc, Alvin, Arzmi and a few others had their Fantasy armies out in force. Shazli, Joe, plus long-missing friends, the Tau xenos Keh Win and Redeye of the Astartes, were duking it out over the grim battlescapes of 40k. Nick, Kong, Soo Jin, Nahri, Zaki, Syamael, Iqbal, Jade, Deathkorps and myself had BFG fleets.

Last Hobby Nite was definitely almost totally weighted on the gaming side. And with the roars of the victorious and the vanquished and the clatter of dice, the energy level was all high. I was sucked into a nail-biting desperate fight to save Amman Prime from the depredations of Nurgle, and both Jeff and I were completely - absolutely completely - absorbed into the battle (more of that in both The Aquila and my blog).

There was some action at the Hobby Table. I finished up almost all my fighters and bombers (except for the 3 stands I forgot about), and did some more work on my Emperor battleship. Airbrush-equipped Iqbal was totally busy with painting his Eldar fleet, and I also got to admire some new ships from Soo Jin (Forgeworld Grey Knight Strike Cruisers), Syamael (SW battlebarge complete with brass-etched brass-etched SW icons), Nahri (cool-looking Imperial ships painted to match his Fallen space marines), Zaki (really excellent-looking Tyranid fleet), Jade (FW Tau - those are niice!) and Kong (finally, another Chaos fleet!).

Anyways, I was absolutely and totally happy. Tired too. Really looking forward to the next Hobby Nite! Not to mention the next issue of The Aquila. Ave Legio!

Arenxis Burns Turn 1 Recap

Have a look at the map above- it reflects both campaign games that were played in Week 1. Each week I'll post an update over the weekend that will show which systems traded hands during the campaign night.

I believe we have Nahri and Syamael joining the campaign with their Space Marine commanded fleets- welcome! Looks like Space Marines were the most popular overall choice in the campaign, which is cool :) Nahri and Syamael, please have a look at the map and get an idea of which system you might like to choose as your starting system. You can choose tomorrow night, and you'll also roll up your starting leadership values.

See you there!

Kind Sirs, RSVP Here!

It is my pleasure to announce for this good week that all you Hobby sirs and madams may indeed RSVP at the appointed space below marked as 'comments.' I shall be arriving aboard His Divine Emperor's battleship the Redoubtable, along with the blessed ships and men of Battle Group Farquhar, in order to persecute the good deed of liberating the oppressed citizens of Arenxis from the yoke of chaos and xenos evil, as well as to partake in the most favored pastime of 'Hobbying'.

I hear tell of battles to be fought on the ground in this 41st millennium as well as in the so-called parallel universe of WFB.

Pray tell, sirs and madams, your answer to this most intriguing question: who's up?

Aquila 1 Is Up!

More updates to come for the Arenxis Burns campaign, but in the meantime either click on the big banner above, or right below here... :)

The Aquila, Issue 1

What a Blast!

Some really serious dice-rolling was to be had at last nite's Hobby Nite. There was some hobbying done early on - Khairul got 20 asteroids done, I painted up a bunch of transports, Jeff was working on a large planet, Iqbal was busy with his airbrush and basecoating his Eldar fleet and Syamael was doing some work on his shiny new Space Marines fleet.
But for the most part, the nite was about honor and glory in the bloody field of battle (be it set in the Ol' World, some far flung planet in the far future or in deep space). The Fortenhaf campaign was raging all around, and I may be mistaken, but I believe battles were fought by Doc, Peter, Ivan, Arzmi, Ceiran, Iz and Alvin. I don't know if Iqbal played any WFB last night. At any rate, this is looking to be a hugely successful WFB campaign. Kudos to Jo!

The 40k front was quieter, and I did see Jo, Shazli and Subhan, among others, rolling out 40k goodness. I think Shazli and Subhan tried out a Battle Missions scenario. I meant to check out that battle, but I was immensely distracted ...

And that's because last nite was also the kick-off of the Arenxis Burns campaign. Jeff gave a quick briefing about how the campaign works (it's basically straight off the rulebook), and we quickly got to our first games. Khairul and Jeff had a tactically interesting Convoy fight, and particularly so as it was Chaos which was attacking an Imperial-defended convoy. Very evocative, very flavorful that. Soo Jin and I fought it out in an Escalating Engagement involving the bulk of our campaign fleets. This was a pretty big battle, and Kong and Nick were also there. Soo Jin's rock-hard Grey Knights clearly won the day gaining him untold Renown!

Nahri had a taste of BFG in a quick game with Khairul. I think Khairul's done more intro games in this past couple of weeks than anyone has in the past couple of years :)

We also had a quick Legio members' meeting to confirm stuff on key events like the Legio Birthday Bash and the November 40k tournament. We bid Khairul a good journey, as this is his last Hobby Nite before he embarks for Thailand next week on a 2-year tour of duty. Hopefully he may come back to the Legio regularly for some serious hobby now and then.

As usual, by the time it was over, I was spent. Absolutely tired, but totally happy! Here's looking forward to the next Hobby Nite!

Thursday, April 22, 2010

RSVP! Campaigns, Battles, Hobby and More!

YESSSS! It's that time of week again! Tomorrow's Hobby Nite should be good - there's at least 2 campaigns going on (one in Ye Ol' Worlde, the other in deep space) on top of the usual hectic gaming and hobbying.

My Battle Group Farquhar will transit from the Warp to take care of some business with certain traitor fleets. I'll also be packing the awesome 40k Battle Missions book if you need to use it.

"Arenxis Burns!" Starts This Friday

You all have seen all the BFG madness that has descended upon Legio Malaysia, and now it's campaign time! :)

If you're interested in participating, here's what you need:

1) You're going to need a WYSIWYG and painted fleet of at least 1500 points, and 2000 points if you're playing Chaos or Imperial Navy. These points DO NOT include your fleet commander (he's free)

2) You need to download and read the campaign rules if you haven't already. Click here to get those from GW.

3) Email Legio Malaysia or Jeff Brooks with your campaign list. Be certain to follow all list restrictions, and make sure all of your capital ships have names. We're writing Glenmarie history here, so we want to get our facts right! ;)

If you have any other questions, just email me and I'll get you sorted. Please try and show up this Friday for campaign night. We're selecting starting systems, as well going over the rules to play. It's not too tough to learn, and it's a great system.

Cheers,

Jeff

Brace! Brace! Brace!

That was simply an awesome Hobby Nite! I managed to get in early and started working on some new models, while Jeff finished up some of his excellent BFG stuff. Then as Nick, Soo Jin, Kong and Khairul arrived, all hell started to break loose!

Soo Jin brought his freshly painted Space Marine fleet - complete with battle barge, strike cruisers and escorts. I think about 1500pts worth, and last week he didn't have a single ship too. Nick's Eldar fleet looks amazing, and his new bases really complement the models. Khairul's fleet had some new additions and some custom jobs too. And I don't know how many games he played, but he ran a good few on the main BFG table.

Arzmi and Doc arrived early too and I think they got some good fantasy action in. A couple of faces we haven't seen in awhile turned up - Shazli and his sons of Ultramar, Subhan and his daemons, lexxus and his Chaos marines. Alvin took a wrong turn and ended up near some brewery, but he arrived safely eventually. Iqbal was extremely happy with that - Alvin brought his long-awaited Eldar fleet - and he spent the rest of Hobby Nite assembling one of his new sleek ships.

Jeff and I squared off in a massive 2000pt game - my Farquhar battle squadron against his Unclean. We used the campaign and set up rules to familiarize ourselves for the upcoming BFG campaign (that kicks off next week). As usual, the BFG game completely absorbed me, and once we started rolling off for battlefield set-up, I had no idea what went on outside of the game. I know Syamael was there, and so was Ivan, Kadir and Iz, but my full attention was on the battle.

The battle itself was awesome! An all-out Fleet Engagement in which Jeff's Chaos gained the upper-hand early on, but by sheer brute force, the Imperial Navy truimphed in the end. Losses were heavy on both sides - I lost a destroyer squadron and a cruiser and 3 more were crippled, Jeff lost 2 cruisers and a grand cruiser with his frigate squadron and another cruiser crippled.

Anyways, by the time Hobby Nite was over, I was completely tired - but totally happy. And I'm totally looking forward to the Arenxis Burns! BFG campaign which kicks off next week. I lurv Hobby Nite!

Yesssss! RSVP!!!

It's that time of the week again! Brilliant! I'm totally stoked. My 40k Eldar and my newly expanded Battle Squadron Farquhar featuring 2000pts of Imperial naval might including the Redoubtable, His Emperor's great battleship will be there.

Who's up? RSVP below. See you at Hobby Nite!

Calling All Legionnaires- Please Vote!

I just stumbled across a BoLS post asking hobbyists to vote for Graham McNeill's "Empire" novel for the Legend Award. It's not all that often a Black Library novel is up for this, and it would be great to see that happen. I'm also lucky enough to be acquainted with Graham, so I'd also like to see us pitch in for him as a friend.

Please follow the link here and vote for Empire!

Many a Furious Battle!

What an amazing Hobby Nite! There literally were battles raging in every corner, from the magical times of the Old World, to the horrific battlefields of 41st millennium, and into desperate battles in deep space in the grim darkness of the far future.

The highlight of the evening was undoubtedly the unveiling of Legio's first purpose-built BFG table, courtesy of the labour, love and talents of Legio's 2009 40k Tournament Champion Soo Jin and Forgemaster General Jeff Brooks. This table is nothing short of amazing, and I do hope the pics below do some justice to it. But really, you got to come see it for yourself.

In honor of his selfless service to the hobby and Legio (and without expecting anything in return), we saw it fit to award Soo Jin with a Hobby Champion purity seal. This makes it his second purity seal! Well done Soo Jin! Ave!

Legio was pretty packed, and aside from Jeff, Khairul and I, Alvin, Doc, Rizal, Ivan, Iqbal, Joe, Ceiran, Nick, Jade, Soo Jin, Kong, Syamael, Shazli and a whole bunch of people were there. Forgive me if I left out some names, I was kinda ... distracted.

I was caught up in 3 battles back-to-back which completely absorbed my attentions. The first battle introduced Ceiran and Doc to BFG. That was huge fun, and I must say the new admirals do have a talent for interstellar battles. The second was against Nick's nicely painted Eldar fleet, in which the Eldar narrowly won in a bitterly fought battle. My last game of the night was back on land, in an excellent scenario from the Battle Missions book which pit my Eldar against Dann's Nids. You gotta try those Battle Missions scenarios - they are awesome! I don't think I'll be playing any BBB missions until much much later, if ever.

The Forgemaster General was busy finishing some asteroid fields - pity he didn't get a game in, as I was looking forward to see how his Unclean fleet performs in the field. I saw 2 armies that I haven't seen in awhile - Rizal's scary IG, and Shazli's Ultramarines. Jo revealed some of his new Nids. And amidst all the shouts and howls and glories of 40k and Fantasy, Khairul also ran another BFG taster game and that was brilliant, as budding admirals and captains got their first taste of deep space battles.
Anyways, by the time Hobby Nite was over, and me and Dann were packing away our stuff and shutting down the Legio, we were all very tired - but utterly happy! I lurv Hobby Nite!
