Hobby Night 27/04/12

At one point of time, there were 17 people in the session. That fact alone, pretty much summed up the last Legio Hobby Night. Have a look below.

Let's start off with the Legio Hobby Night's mainstay: the Hobby Table. Since May 18th is just around the corner, furious assembly and painting of FoW miniatures were foreseen. The frenzy on Hobby Table even got Mark and Nahri interested with the game too; only a matter of time now before we see another Axis and Ally army marching to war. However, as pictured below, there were two things noted (not that they were significant remarkable, but good signs of the future).

The Hobby Table
The first thing that you can see was that Yip was in attendance, painting. Definitely a good sign there, since he's a good painter to begin with but lacked the motivation to paint his stuff (the only person left now is Ivan, who still need the right push to get him painting). As for the second thing...hmm...wait, did I see it right? Let me double-check.

Wow, it was really him in person. The ever-elusive Wolf Lord Syamael finally materialized during the hobby night instead of the whisper-from-the-warp routine. And look at his side of the table, that was simply more than twenty FoW Soviet infantry bases he got there. By the looks of things, he has set his mind on participating in the Firestorm: Bagration campaign. But, will he be able to commit himself in the upcoming campaign? That, we gotta wait and see.

Continuing with the FoW Hobby Rush, Alvin decided to repaint most of his 1500pts German army (which consisted of only 6 Tiger tanks). It appeared that his airbrushing activity has attracted some of the WM/H players to the art of airbrushing, which led to another brief Airbrushing 101 session that he gladly did. By the way, do you want to know something that's even more amazing?

There was not a single game of WH40K played that night, a very rare occurrence given the local affinity towards the game. Don't really know what happened to the WH40K community, but the information that we had was that two of them were busy preparing themselves physically and mentally to venture into the depths of sea (at different locations) during this weekend. So with WH40K out of the picture, enter Flames of War, Warmachine/Horde and even Battlefleet Gothic.

Last but not least, the highlight of the day belonged to Yip. These were the awesome things what he painted last Hobby Night. From my personal point of view, he'll be giving a run to everybody else in the upcoming Golden Kris on June 30th, especially for the Unit Category.

That would be all for the night, and we closed rather early at 12.15 am as compared to the previous week. Looking forward for another great week to come.

Speaking of which, to all past and present Legionnaires, there will be a Legio Malaysia General Meeting held during the next Hobby Night; the first for 2012. Please RSVP your attendance for the meeting via the email that has been sent to you.

Ave Legio!

RSVP Here!

Post up here and let us know who's coming! Unfortunately we've had to cancel the Dust demos at the last minute, but we'll definitely have Dust: Tactics going next week. In the meantime, you're welcome to come out and hobby- whether it be playing games or getting some figures painted. I'll be there with Soviet tank models painting, along with some Dust infantry models to have a go. See you there!

Hobby Night 22/04/12

The previous week, some DUST : Tactics models were previewed and following that trend, these models were showcased in the Show N' Tell session. The details on these models are truly awesome. Jeff and Khairul really did excellent paint jobs to them. It now seems an injustice to see these awesomely painted models be played on cardboard tiles. Let's hope the Dust Warfare Rulebook reaches our shores quickly.

As usual some WH40K games were played, but the remarkable thing were the players themselves. It really has been quite a long time since we last saw these guys at Legio; Redeye, Chris Ong, Peter, and Azlan. A white/blue Blood Angels, Necrons, Chaos Space Marines and the Alaitoc craftworld all took to the field.

On the Hobby Table, other than the showcasing of the DUST: Tactics models pictured above, only Chang was actively hobbying in preparation for the Firestorm: Bagration campaign.

So, what did the other guys actually do that night?

As you can see, we're just chillin', eating, talking smack, just hanging out talking hobby stuff. It was good times. The Hobby Night ended at 1.45 am, which has been ages since we last closed that late.

In two weeks, something important will take place during Hobby Night. To all past and present Legionnaires, do check your emails. But first things first, the Warmachine/Horde gang are planning to make another visit next week. Looking forward to another great night.

By the way, there's only eleven weeks left till Kindred III and Golden Kris 2012. Have you registered yourself and made the necessary preparation?

Ave Legio!

Hobby Night 13/04/12

Friday the 13th marks the return of the Galactic Table to Legio Malaysia's Hobby Night. It has been quite some time since this beautiful wargame table (painted by Legionnaire Soo Jin) was last seen being played upon, and the return was just as awesome. Nicely painted Firestorm Armada warships were seen  engaging  strategic maneuvers  and brutal war in the depth of space.

Got your interest? Contact the cool dudes who were playing them, the Kindred II Champions: James & Zaki, for more information about this game. Furthermore, since Zaki is now working in Shah Alam, he mentioned that he'll be making more regular appearances. Looking forward to have your Hive Fleet at Hobby Nights dude!

But that's not all. Have I mentioned that it was a rather busy Hobby Night? Dice rolling, rulebook flipping, music blaring, friendly banters; it was one hell of a fun night to be with fellow wargamers. Have a look.

The Warmachine/Horde gang was around too, hunting opposing casters to seal victory. It was really pleasant to have you guys around, and try to get more of the gang to join the fun. Next time, don't forget to RSVP at the blog okay.

The glorious Hobby Table, which is usually inhabited by Jeff and Iqbal on Hobby Nights, had more activity than the norm. Where there usually were two, eight people were enthusiastically hobbying that night. Somehow, this is probably connected with the upcoming Firestorm: Bagration campaign and the Kindred III/Golden Kris events that will be held by Legio Malaysia in May and June respectively. Mark your calendars folks, you don't want to miss it.

Dann's Wrack and Shukor's Trygon were the main highlight for the Show N' Tell session. Those are definitely two finely painted models. But the talk of the night turned out to be this one below, and oh my, what finely crafted models they are. Expect to see updates on Jeff's and Khairul's blogs in the near future regarding this game called DUST: Tactics.

Hmm... it would be nice to use them as 'counts as" Riflemen Dreadnoughts, wouldn't they? :p

Till next week, Ave Legio!

Hobby Night 06/04/12

The Warp Breach Alert turned out to be an over-reaction. It was only a small Eldar warband materializing from a webway portal, disappearing as swiftly as their arrival. Taking no chances, the Imperium dispatched two forces of the Blood Angels and Space Wolves chapter to site, as a safety precaution.

It was a great night for hobby, and the topic for the night turned out to be Flames of War. Countless tanks were assembled, paint schemes and army compositions were discussed. All these, in preparation for the upcoming Firestorm: Bagration campaign that'll kick off on May 18th. Should any of you be interested to learn this game system, don't hesitate to drop by any Hobby Night. The third edition rules was recently published, so it's the same learning curve for everyone.

A special welcome to Mr. Mark Smith for attending his first ever hobby night. Hope to see you on a regular basis. Yes, he's the the British Superman. Clark is the American version.

On a side note, there'll also be an inevitable war. Heads up, you might want to start preparing your 40K armies for battle. Create an army lists, assemble , paint, wrestle that hobby burnout; do whatever you can NOW. Rumours are saying that the impending war will be endless, but I'm sure it's going to be Survival of the Fittest.

As a reminder, June 30th is less than 3 months away. Are you ready? As Khairul likes to quote nowadays "Do or Do Not. There is no Try"

Warp Breach Alert, RSVP yourselves!

Major psychic interference has been reported in the Glenmarie Sector. Many astropaths have been attempting to contact their brethren but failed. To make matters worse, multiple warp signatures have been detected. Could this be a signal of an impending assault by the foul Eulikules and his allies, or could this be something else altogether?

The time has come for another Legio Malaysia Hobby Night, and you definitely wouldn't want to miss the fun. Come and join us, the session will start at 6pm. Don't forget to RSVP yourself, and just make sure you bring a psychic hood along :D

Hobby Night 30/03/12

SPLENDID; one word that sums up the recent hobby night. All in all, a good start to a new chapter of Legio Malaysia. Even though the night was dominated by WH40K, the variety of appearance was awesome; Blood Angels, Eldar, Grey Knights, Necrons, Orks, and Tyranids. It has been quite some time since we last seen this much variety.

A Silver Skulls Landspeeder and some xenos from Hive Fleet Seiryuu

As usual, the night kicked off with games. Descent of Angels vs Saim-Hann, Death Company vs Grey Knights, Necrons vs Grey Knights, and Ghazgull Thraka vs Necrons; furious battles were fought; objectives claimed, enemies annihilated.

WAAAAAAGHHH!!!!!!!!
Rizal, how many orks did you bring...160? Madness!
Concurrent with all these action taking place, the Hobby Table was transformed into a warzone too. While waiting for his disciples to end their bashing sessions, Alvin prepared himself for the promised Airbrush 101 session. In the meantime, pictured in the background below, you could spot a Sculpting 101 session in progress; with Iqbal sharing his knowledge in the basics of sculpting a human body to Goh .

Alvin and his disciples
At 11.30 pm, while waiting the Necrons to be overwhelmed by the Orks, most of the attendees were indulged in fulfilling their hobbying needs. In fact, you could almost see every single hobby activity you could think of in action in the last hobby night.
Clockwise from top left: Shukor with conventional brush painting, Alvin with airbrush painting, Goh fully concentrated on sculpting 'Sally', and Chris assembling his Leman Russ
It was very nice to see new faces making the once-in-a-week trip to Legio Malaysia, and some familiar faces making appearances after a long hiatus. Distance doesn't seem to be the problem though, as the attendees were from all over the Klang Valley; Setiawangsa, Wangsa Maju, TTDI, Damansara, Puncak Alam. It's the will to make it that actually counts, and they've certainly proved it. A very truly pleasant Hobby Night it was, and looking forward for next week. Ave Legio!
