Birthday Celebration a Success!

Wow, what a weekend! A record 14 trophies were won yesterday in two massive contests. Pictured above are the winners of the Combat Patrol Tournament we ran. 12 brave souls played a total of 60 games in a clash of 400 "patrols". Much fun was had, and Legio kudos go out to Peter for his victory and well deserved Purity Seal!

In addition, we also ran our first ever painting contest, Golden Kris 2009. I went ahead and put together a little montage and posted it on YouTube- scroll down below and watch it right here on the Legio Malaysia site. Otherwise, you can follow the link below:

Congratulations to Dann for his Golden Kris winning Avatar- your trophy and Purity Seal are well deserved. Also congrats go out to Khairul E. for winning the "People's Choice" award for his fantastic rendition of Eldrad Ulthran. Well done to the both of you!

If you missed it, all I can say is that we had a blast, and that you should definitely come next year!

Cheers

Tshirts have arrived (finally!)

Well, it's safe to say that we've finally found a tshirt supplier that can deliver the goods! A very special thanks goes out to Iskazri for finding these guys- thanks dude!

For those who don't know, every year we like to do a new tshirt for our supporting members (previously known as Level 2 members). All supporting members who have had at least 3 months of paid dues in 2009 will be getting one of these shirts at no cost. These will be available at Hobby Night tomorrow, so be sure to pop in and get your shirt!

I also just took delivery of the 15 tables and 30 chairs I ordered, and we'll be setting up the club area tonight for tomorrow's Hobby Night. Trophies are getting made, a new display case assembled, and other preparations are getting finished for Saturday's Birthday Celebration. This is a fun time to be a Legionnaire, and I'm really looking forward to seeing as many of you as I can over the next couple of days. Legio Uber Alles!

Birthday Tourney / Legion Update

Hola folks!

Today's the last day to advance register for Saturday's "Combat Patrol" tournament. All registrations after today will be added to the tournament roster on a first come, first served basis. There are still slots available, and it doesn't cost anything to join. Combine that with the fact you don't need a lot of models to play, and you've got no excuse not to join in the fun!

Here's the confirmed list of participants for Combat Patrol thus far:

Subhan
Khairul E.
Peter C.
Arzmi
Chang
Redeye84
Johan
Faizal
Shazli M.
Iskazri

Joe S.
Dann T.

Even if you're not playing the CP Tournament or competing in the Golden Kris competition, we urge all hobbyists to come out and visit. There will be snacks and drinks, and everyone who attends will be given ballots to vote for their favorite miniatures in Golden Kris. If you've thought about joining Legio Malaysia, this Saturday would be a great time to come out and see what we're all about. Attendance is free, and we'd love to meet you!

Finally, I have one more announcement to make. Thanks to recent factory renovations, we now have a dedicated home for Legio Malaysia. Rather than playing in the lunch room, we now have a space in the factory that is not used for something else! Tables will remain set up from week to week, and we now have the space to do things that we couldn't do before. We've just purchased 15 tables and 30 chairs, which are for the Legion's uses alone. This means that we will have the capacity to have up to 30 people playing games at the same time! We have shelving as well for terrain, materials, or even figure cases/belongings. And this is only the beginning...

We're unveiling the new locale this Friday at Hobby Night. Come through the front glass door of the factory, and take the stairs all the way to the top. Walk through the door, and you've just stepped into the new home of Legio Malaysia. I'm sure you'll like it!

Until Friday,

Jeff

June 27th Birthday Celebration

Here's a friendly reminder to everyone that we are definitely a "GO" for Legio Malaysia's first ever Birthday Celebration, being held at Battlefront Miniatures on Saturday, June 27th. Doors open at 0930, and we'll wrap things up here around 6 or so. For those who's memories have dimmed, or perhaps didn't know this was happening, here's what on the schedule:

"Golden Kris" Painting Competition

This is the first of what will be a yearly competition for all the painters out there. Entries must be made in person- you can't have someone bring it in for you. Here's the details:

For this year, we’ll have three categories: Single Miniature, Unit, and Large Model. Single Miniature is a single, standard 25-30mm scale infantry mode, one stand of 15mm scale infantry, or one 15mm scale vehicle. 1 Mech from Heavy Gear would also fall in this category. Unit entries should consist of a game legal unit of infantry models/stands numbering at least 5 models, and no more than 20. Large Model entries should be a single model larger than a standard 25-30mm infantry, such as a Dreadnought, Tank, or Monster. Ranges smaller than 25mm scale are not eligible to be entered into this category. If you have any questions regarding your potential entry, please email us straight away and we’ll get you sorted. Entries should be brought with you when you show up ion Saturday. All entries must be submitted IN PERSON by 2 PM. Judging will begin at 3 PM.

Next, we've running a 40K tournament that's a bit different from the norm: Combat Patrol!

40K Combat Patrol Tournament: As the main event, we’ll be running a 5 round “Combat Patrol” tournament. Trophies will be handed out for Best Sportsmanship, Best Patrol (Appearance & Theme combined), and of course a Purity Seal for the winner. Lists must be no more than 400 points, chosen from a single codex as normal, and conform to the following rules:

1) You must have at least one Troops choice

2) You may have one HQ choice, but no more than one

3) Armies are not required to take mandatory unit choices. However, all unit restrictions apply (such as 0-1)

4) No model may have more than 2 Wounds

5) No model may have a 2+ or better Armor/Invulnerable save. So, a Chaplain in power armor would be ok, while a Dracon with a Shadow Field or a Space Marine Terminator would not.

6) No Unique/Special/Named characters may be used

7) No vehicles may be used with an Armor total greater than 33. This is determined by adding the Front, Rear, and Side values together. For instance, a Rhino would be 32 (11+11+10), so it could be used. A Chaos Dreadnought would be 34 (12+10+12), so it could not be used.

8) Remaining rules are as per standard Legio Tournaments. Models must be WYSIWYG and fully painted/based.

If you have any questions about the requirements for this tournament, let us know. There is no cost to play, so get those patrols ready! All tournament players need to arrive no later than 10 AM.

Registration for this tournament starts now, and there are only 20 spots. Please email us by Wednesday of next week with your intention to play and your army list. Once you do that, your spot will be confirmed. Anyone who doesn't register in advance that wishes to play will be added on an "as available" basis. So, if you want to play, get those registrations in! It doesn't cost anything, and it should be a lot of fun.

So there you have it folks. It's been a rocky road getting this done, and we sincerely appreciate everyone's understanding.

Also, don't forget that we are indeed running Hobby Night next Friday, June 26th. It's been too long since the Legion last gathered, so everyone do your best to make it!

Cheers

New Poll- Be Sure to Vote!

Well, there's been a lot of excitement generated by the fun and success that Team Legio had at SPORE 2009. We've undoubtedly set the standard for club participation in this event, and we want to keep that trend going!

There's been some talk of "theming" our team for next year- having all players choose their armies based on one common idea. Personally, I think it's a fantastic idea, and to that end I've posted a poll. Just scroll down below, and make your vote. If you think there's another great idea we've missed, reply to this thread and tell us what you think. The idea of 10 Legio members all showing up with a Tyranid horde (for instance) gives me goose bumps! :)

What do YOU think? Discuss!

P.S. Before anyone has a panic attack, this poll is non-binding and will not necessarily commit us to one particular course. So, if you're planning on attending SPORE 2010, hate Orks, and Orks wins the vote, don't get too upset about it. It's just a launching pad for hobby ideas!

What a Weekend!

Road trip. Dinghy hotels with vehicle lifts. Border-crossing. An entire day of being surrounded by lots of toy soldiers, amazing models, terrain and gamers, furious dice rolling and interesting scenarios. I would say that was one amazing weekend.

Spore 2009 was really cool. While I was there only for the first day (got to try 2 days next time), it did fill the hobby tank somewhat. There were some amazing looking armies (the Afrika Korps IG, the amazing daemon army, the blue Orks come to mind), dynamic conversions (Orktmus Prime - actually transforms from an Ork Trukk) and interesting demo games (D-Day anyone? A huge table depicting Normandy for Flames of War).

And the 40k tourney was just great. Team Legio had some new faces this year - Subhan, Iqbal, Faizal, Jo. Some returning players - Quake (who filled in for Arzmi), Dann, Peter, Keh Win and myself. And the return of a veteran - Rizal. The competition was fierce, and I would say standards have gone up since last year - both in the hobby and the gaming areas. Anyways, on to the results:

Best Overall: Tsui (IG)

Best General: Peter (Chaos - yay Legio)

Best Appearance: Tsui (IG)

Best Sportsmanship: Faizal (Chaos - yay Legio)

I've got some pics on my blog, which you can go see at http://spunkybass.multiply.com/ I know hundreds of pictures were taken (not by me) and we'll try to put them up or link to them as soon we can. Update: more pics on Peter's site: http://executorprime.multiply.com/photos/album/15# ... and more pics on Johan's site: http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=1839967&op=1&view=all&subj=595428444&id=535633663#/album.php?aid=84518&id=535633663 ... and more pics on Dann's site: http://idtdesigns.multiply.com/photos/album/47/SPOREcon_2009# ... and even more pics here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/raydance/sets/72157619815358226/

And the results ...

To the guys who made the trip this year - thanks very much! Awesome times!

Membership Extension

Hola folks,

Considering the venue problems we've got this month, it seems only fair to sort out our membership out when it comes to dues. So, we are extending everyone who has paid up their dues by one full month. This way, you won't have to pay for time that you don't have access to Hobby Night. It's a real bummer, but I think the changes that are coming up will make the wait worthwhile.

For SPORE 2009 Team Malaysia members, the tshirts are due to arrive no later than Monday. I'll pass them along to Azlan for subsequent distribution next week.

For 2009 Supporting Members (Level 2 in the "old tongue"), you'll have your tshirt waiting for you at our next Hobby Night. Thanks for your patience. I have high hopes that our new tshirt supplier continues to get us a decent product for a reasonable price.

Thanks again for your flexibility- it's much appreciated.

Cheers
